I've Been Binging WLW Content Like It's My Job, And These 9 Movies And Shows Will Make Your Watchlist Gloriously Gayer

Buzz Feed07-04-2025

This list is very simple: I'm gay, and I like to watch gay things. EVEN OUTSIDE OF PRIDE MONTH! *Flips my new pixie cut*
More specifically, I'm an "L" in the glorious LGBTQIA+ soup of ours. So while a lot of these picks lean in that direction, there's something queer for everyone here, I promise.
^ You after watching everything on this list, probably.
1. Even Cowgirls Get The Blues (1993)
Fine Line Features/ Everett Collection
Ok so get this: Uma Thurman plays a hitchhiking model who has ABSOLUTELY G-G-G-GINORMOUS THUMBS. She moves to a wellness ranch overtaken by lesbian cowgirls, where she takes a lover whose name is — are you ready — BONANZA JELLYBEAN! *collapses*
This film radicalized me. I too now want to move to a ranch with my lover. I too want to have thumbs the size of a paper towel roll. I've been living in a state of how come no one talks about this freak-ass movie since I saw it two months ago. So now I'm passing this onto you gays!!! 🫵
My warning: like maaaany movies of yesteryear, this film unfortunately has a few questionable (and inappropriate) character portrayals. On top of that, Roseanne Barr is in it for like three seconds. None of which I endorse!!! TO BE CLEAR!
2. Heavenly Creatures (1994)
A universal lesbian experience is going "I loooooove Melanie Lynskey." And whether your entry point to the ML fan club was lesbian classic But I'm a Cheerleader, lesbian classic Yellowjackets or even lesbian classic Coyote Ugly, may I suggest going right to the beginning of her career and watching her acting debut in lesbian classic Heavenly Creatures. It's ALSO Kate Winslet's acting debut, who you know from lesbian classic Ammonite or maybe even straight classic... Titanic.
For this film, may I direct you to my own personal Letterboxd review, which is simply:
"Teenage lesbian situationship ends in matricide directed by Peter Jackson...a movie made in a lab just or Bella..."
And perhaps therefore made in lab just for you too!
3. If These Walls Could Talk 2 (2000)
HBO Films
If you've ever seen screenshots of butch Chloë Sevigny (❤️❤️❤️❤️), it's most likely from this HBO film, the sequel to (aptly named) If These Walls Could Talk. While the original was an anthology that dove into abortion storylines, the second focuses on three different lesbian couples from different time periods.
And while you may recognize this movie from butch Chloë Sevigny (❤️❤️❤️❤️), did you know that there is ANOTHER STORYLINE featuring — you aren't ready for what I'm about to tell you — ELLEN DEGENERES and SHARON STONE. They play wives tryna have a baby. There are s*x scenes. And mama? It's jarring!!!!
4. D.E.B.S. (2004)
Samuel Goldwyn Films/ Everett Collection
Okay waittttt, I know D.E.B.S. is kinda Lesbian Filmography 101, right up there with cursed film Blue is the Warmest Colour, but it's a new watch for me. If it'll be a new watch for you too, it's kinda like a gay(...er) Charlie's Angels. There is LOTS of lezzing out in this campy spy movie, and if it's an enemies to lovers storyline you're looking for—this is the ONE!
5. Down With Love (2003)
20th Century Fox/ Everett Collection
This one's not necessarily queer in storyline, but rather queer in the sense of Renée Zellwegger and Ewan McGregor sing at the end. And also our Lesbian Grand Marshal Sarah Paulson is in it too.
6. Novitiate (2017)
Sony Pictures Classics /Everett Collection
Well, well, well, what do we have here? A gay nun movie featuring Margaret Qualley and (said in Tiffany Pollard's voice) DIANNA AGRON????? As someone who basically has a PhD in Gay Nun Movies (don't get me started on Benedetta) and a PhD in shipping Dianna Agron with whatever female co-star is closest to her in any given Glee scene, this movie certainly doooo scratch a certain itch!
7. Bound (1996)
GramercyPictures/ Courtesy Everett Collection
Probably one of the hottest movies of all time to ever star a character named CORKY (Gina Gershon). It's an erotic crime thriller featuring ultimate femme fatale (and friend of Sutton Stracke ofc) Jennifer Tilly. What's there not to love?
Now for a couple TV picks I've been loooooving:
8. Ghosting (2024—)
CBC
Everything in life benefits from being gayer—even ghost hunting shows. Meet Ghosting, a Canadian series that follows hosts Luke Hutchie and Matthew Finlan (along with a gaggle of celeb guests) as they travel across Canada to investigate the country's most haunted places.
This show is so dumb (compliment). Imagine you get invited to your weekly "gay guy music video night" but surprise! You all have to ghost hunt together in like, a mine. That's Ghosting. And it's ADDICTING. You can watch it on CBC Gem if you're in Canada, or stream it on Youtube if you're anywhere else.
9. Survival of the Thickest (2023—)
Netflix
I'm soooo glad Season 2 of Survival of the Thickest is out— and gayer than ever before, I may I add!!! Michelle Buteau is back as Mavis, and watching her and her friends navigate love makes for a very real (but very funny) watch. Throw Drag Race fave (and anti-fracker) Peppermint and Beverly Hills housewife Garcelle Beauvais into the mix, and you have the perfect bingable show.

Out in Ohio: How Granville, Grove City and Gahanna are celebrating Pride 2025

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Organizers behind Pride Month festivals in Granville, Grove City and Gahanna join NBC4's LGBTQ+ show 'Out in Ohio' to talk about how they're bringing the celebration to your neighborhood. Digital Reporter David Rees hosts 'Out in Ohio' and chats with Granville Pride president Mark Carr, Pride in Grove City board chair Leslie Anderson, and Gahanna Pride founder Katie McBroom. 'Pride Act' aims to protect Ohio parents with LGBTQ+ children Carr explains that Granville Pride grew from a 2021 resolution passed by the village council denouncing discrimination based on sexual orientation. But, that effort was met with resistance from certain residents and business owners who protested the village's first Pride festival that year. 'It was a positive thing that the village had done, but it really did then allow the other side of the coin to come out as well,' Carr said. 'We've had protestors every single year, but the majority of Granville believes in equality for all.' Since then, Granville Pride has only grown. While that first year drew about 700 attendees, the festival has steadily increased, with more than 1,000 participants in 2022 and about 2,000 in 2023 and 2024. This year's festival on Denison's front lawn on June 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. is expected to be Granville's biggest yet, Carr said. 'I believe that Granville was waiting for the opportunity to show their support,' Carr said. 'Pride actually gives many, many in Granville and the surrounding counties a place to come and support people like me and my husband and my family.' Beyond the festival, Granville Pride also facilitates an 'allies directory' that Carr said makes it easier for LGBTQ+ Ohioans to decide where to shop, eat and visit when they're in the village. If they see an 'ally' sticker on the door or on a business website, visitors can trust they are entering a LGBTQ-safe environment. Nissan, Walmart dial back Stonewall Columbus sponsorships for Pride 2025 '[It] came out of, again, that very first negative reaction [in 2021] that we got from a business owner in the village, and so we said, we're no longer going to spend our dollar at establishments that don't support us,' Carr said. 'So, we developed the Granville Pride business ally and it is a large, large list and growing every single day.' Like many other Pride organizers in central Ohio, Granville Pride has experienced a change in sponsorships as corporations reevaluate donations related to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Still, Carr said the festival has received increased funding from first-time sponsors. 'We have new people who are stepping up because they see the increased need,' Carr said. 'As I converse with other Pride organizers, it's sorta the same thing, where some of the old sponsors are no longer there, the bigger corporate ones, but the local-owned businesses are stepping up to fill in that gap.' Anderson explains that Pride in Grove City is also young and grew as other central Ohio suburbs established their own festivals after the COVID-19 pandemic. While Grove City's past three festivals were held in October or September to allow for more flexibility with vendors and other resources, the organization has moved the celebration to June this year. 'Switching to June this year felt like the right time to make that shift and align with national Pride Month and be more a part of the boarder celebration,' Anderson said. Stonewall Columbus gets ready for Pride 2025 Anderson said this year's festival on June 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Town Center Park will be 'a vibrant Pride fest with something for everyone,' including a live DJ, local performers, a special appearance from the gay men's chorus, food trucks and an expanded resource fair. Anderson noted that a protest by a hate group at last year's Pride festival was difficult for Grove City's LGBTQ+ community, but an outpouring of support strengthened the organization's commitment to foster a safe and joyful space, she said. 'The overwhelming support from the community showed that hate doesn't have a place here in Grove City,' Anderson said. 'With the changes we're facing this year in national politics, uniting with our allies feels more important than ever this year.' A member of the Gahanna community for years, McBroom said she wanted to create Gahanna Pride after she saw a need for 'visibility, celebration, and a safe space for residents and youth.' What started as a small effort has grown into a city-wide event, she said. 'We have a huge outpouring of support of local businesses, families, allies that really affirmed Gahanna really needs this and we're ready for this,' McBroom said. 'It's about building the community and showing that inclusion and love really is what we have here in Gahanna.' List: 2025 Pride Month events, festivals in central Ohio This year's festival on June 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Headley Park features live drag shows, a DJ, food trucks, various vendors, family-friendly games, a bounce house, face painting and more. Like other central Ohio Pride festivals, Gahanna has also felt hesitation from some sponsors this year. McBroom said it's pushed the organization to be 'more intentional and bold about how we show up.' 'We really just wanna show up about love, support, joy for everybody,' McBroom said. 'Pride's about visibility and resilience, and that's especially important for us this year, and that's how we're gonna show up.' While McBroom didn't set out to be a driving force for Gahanna Pride, she said organizing the festival has been one of the most fulfilling things she's ever done. 'To know that I have helped to create a safe space, it's kind of emotional to think about it,' McBroom said. 'It's been really incredible and I'm super excited to see what's to come.' S.F.'s new Pride festival faces backlash over stance on war in Gaza

Two Bay Area artists have pulled out of SoSF, because of organizers' stance on the war in Gaza, and are instead planning their own competing Pride event. DJ Adam Kraft, founder of the event company Fake and Gay, and drag queen Nicki Jizz, who created the 'Reparations' drag show, opted to part ways with the outdoor music event scheduled for June 28 shortly after Oakland native Kehlani decided to drop off the lineup as SoSF's headliner last week. 'SoSF made a statement regarding Kehlani's stance and language being pro-Palestine, which resulted in a wave of comments asking them to clarify exactly what issues they had with Kehlani's position and language,' Kraft told the Chronicle on Monday, June 9. 'We, along with the majority of our community, stand with the Palestinian people, and felt that message should not be obfuscated.' The Chronicle has reached out to SoSF organizers for comment. The since-deleted statement by SoSF was posted to social media in May shortly after Kehlani faced concert cancellations by Cornell University and Central Park's SummerStage Pride concert over what the Ivy League deemed 'antisemitic, anti-Israel sentiments.' As first reported by the Standard, the statement noted that the festival's team 'fundamentally disagree' with Kehlani's language, and went on to explain they were seeking to 'engage with her team' instead of canceling her San Francisco appearance. A joint statement by Kehlani and the festival was also included in an effort to smooth over any new criticism. 'No person should ever fall casualty of a war they did not choose and do not support,' the statement read. 'This sentiment extends to Jewish people, the same way it extends to Palestinian people, the same way it extends to all people.' In April, Kehlani responded to her Cornell concert cancellation with an Instagram video clarifying that she is 'anti-genocide' and 'anti the actions of the Israeli government.' But she has continued to be criticized for her views. The singer has frequently used her platform to voice her opposition to Israel and Zionism, and included the phrase 'long live the intifada' in the music video for her 2024 song 'Next 2 U.' The phrase translates to 'uprising' or 'resistance' in Arabic, but is also considered by some as a call for violence against Jews. While announcing Kehlani severed ties with the event on Instagram, SoSF organizers revealed that the one-day celebration would no longer be at Pier 80's warehouse. Instead, it's set to take place as a block party across the street at 900 Marin St. That post has since been deleted, though this information is still on the event's website. It is still unclear why Kehlani, who identifies as a lesbian and uses she/they pronouns, withdrew from SoSF. But Kraft said that it did influence his and Nicki Jizz's plans to cancel their appearances. 'We pulled out of SoSF because we felt like our and our community's voices were not being heard or considered and for a Pride event, especially in this moment under the current administration, uplifting queer voices should be of the utmost importance,' Kraft said. 'I just couldn't bring myself to be a part of an event which started to feel more and more exploitative of pink dollars during such a crucial time.' 'This was an easy decision to make to stand up for what's right,' Nicki Jizz added. Looking ahead, Kraft and Nicki Jizz are determined to pull together their own Pride weekend event. 'We would love to be able to provide an alternative space where people feel more comfortable and excited to attend, and know that their money is not going to a cause or entity that is actively in opposition to their own views,' Kraft said. 'It is super last minute to attempt to do something, but we are trying our best.' Both Kraft and Nicki Jizz noted that the SoSF organizers they have worked with throughout the process have been 'understanding' and 'supportive.' But Kraft pointed out 'it feels like mixed messaging,' as the way in which organizers have continued to promote the event doesn't align with their behavior behind the scenes. One example he cited is that when SoSF shared its new flyer, sans Kehlani, they made no mention of his or Nicki Jizz's departure. 'To me that speaks volumes,' Kraft said. 'They were only using us for our local audience reach and did not value us as contributors to the event.'

Miley Cyrus jokes about bringing JoJo Siwa 'back out' of the closet and the internet has thoughts

Miley Cyrus' playful jab at JoJo Siwa's latest dating controversy has the internet in uproar. It wouldn't be Pride Month without some discourse! In a video that played at WorldPride on Sunday, the 'Wrecking Ball' singer shaded Siwa about coming 'back out' of the closet after identifying as a lesbian and then starting to date Chris Hughes after her stint on Celebrity Big Brother UK. 'Enjoy coming out of the closet if this Pride is the time for you,' Cyrus says in the video, before telling attendees to 'have an amazing Pride.' Then, the 32-year-old former Hannah Montana star joked, 'Alright, I'm going back to get some more pretzels and find JoJo Siwa and bring her back out,' while pointing over her shoulder at a closet. — (@) Siwa came out as queer back in 2021, before labeling herself as lesbian later on. And while on Celebrity Big Brother she reconsidered her sexuality and landed on queer again. 'I feel, like, so queer, do you know what I mean?' she said on the show. 'I think that's the thing, I've always told myself I'm a lesbian, and I think being here, I've realized: 'Oh, I'm not a lesbian, I'm queer.' And I think that's really cool.' Reevaluating your gender or sexuality is something many people in the LGBTQ+ community are familiar with. There is nothing wrong with coming out multiple times over the years as you home in on who you are. But Siwa decided to throw some shade of her own at lesbians while re-coming out as queer. She continued, shouting, 'I'm switching letters! F**k the 'L,' I'm going to the 'Q'!' Now, Cyrus is taking heat on social media for her comments, with people calling her biphobic and accusing her of queer erasure. — (@) 'I adore Miley but this isn't ok. JoJo never went back into the closet, SHE'S STILL QUEER!! Again JoJo being with Chris doesn't erase or change her attraction to women,' one person wrote on X. "Pride month should be about celebrating all members of the LGBT+ community, not about making jibes like this." — (@) "miley is wrong for this can we stop invalidating jojo siwa's queerness? she should know better as an older queer woman herself & i can't imagine how jojo feels hearing this coming from her idol" — (@) "ehh jojo is getting visceral hate from the community at the moment so miley doing this, even if it's a joke, is distasteful. especially considering they're meant to be friends" — (@) It seems fairly clear that Cyrus meant her comment as a playful jab from one queer person to another (Cyrus is currently dating a man herself), and some people took the joke in stride, finding it hilarious. Someone commented, 'apparently the entire internet can make fun of jojo siwa for years, but when miley (her friend) makes a joke, it's too much.' — (@) Another person posted, 'LMFAO Not miley basically calling JoJo Siwa a fake lesbian.' — (@) "The concept of miley cyrus keeping up with jojo siwa lore," someone else joked. — (@) Queer people who are also attracted to men are absolutely still part of the community, but some people get frustrated by queer women taking over Pride Month by announcing that they are now dating men. It's only nine days into Pride Month, and so far, Siwa finally confirmed her relationship with Hughes, Fletcher opened up about falling in love with a man, and Billie Eilish confirmed her relationship with Nat Wolff with a public make-out sesh. Still, although the debate about the privilege that comes with being in a straight-appearing relationship despite your queer identity is still raging, many other people took Cyrus' joke in the spirit it was likely intended.
