Petrol smugglers lose RM155,000

SEMPORNA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) foiled an attempt to smuggle subsidised petrol via Tanjung Kapur waters, here, Wednesday. Semporna Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Commander Amir Shubli said while carrying the Op Pluto Timur operation in the area, the MMEA personnel spotted a cargo boat in a suspicious manner at about 1am.
Advertisement 'Acting on tip off, the Banggi 10 boat was mobilised towards the location. However, aware of the presence of MMEA the boat skipper immediately fled into the shallow area. 'The boat skipper later jumped into the water and escaped into the mangrove areas,' he said on Wednesday. Amir said inspection on the boat found the boat modified to the capacity of its fuel tank for the purpose of smuggling fuel to the neighbouring country. It is estimated that 1,100 litres of petrol were stored in the tank and attempted to be smuggled out of the country.
Advertisement All the seizures including the cargo boat, an outboard engine and an electrical pump were estimated worth RM155,000. The seizures were taken to the Semporna Maritime Zone jetty for further action. The case would be investigated under the Control of Supply Act 1961. Meanwhile, the MMEA foiled an attempt by the fuel smuggling syndicate, off Pulau Bum Bum, here, Tuesday. Amir said MMEA seized four boats and petrol worth more than RM10,000. He said, acting on the intelligence of smuggling activities in the area, MMEA launched Ops Pluto Timur, Ops Khas Cegah PATI (OCP) and Ops Tiris in the area. 'Acting on a tip-off, the MMEA team rushed to the location and spotted four pump boats without registration numbers, moving in suspicious condition. 'As soon as the boat skippers sensed the presence of the MMEA patrol boat, they jumped into the water and headed towards a shallow area, leaving their boats behind,' he said. Inspection on the pump boats led to the discovery of 26 jerry cans containing petrol. The seizures were taken to the Azumi Camp jetty for further action. Police probe viral video on alleged molestation of girl by Bangladeshi worker
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a viral video where a man alleges his nine-year-old daughter was molested by a Bangladeshi worker. The video, uploaded by X user @Negeri09, suggested the worker touched the girl's chest and sexually harassed her. It also contained violent elements. Kajang police chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof, said in a statement today that the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. Voluntarily causing hurt under the Penal Code carries a maximum punishment of one year's imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. Physical sexual assault on a child under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act carries a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and discretionary whipping. The police chief said the victim's 32-year-old Malaysian father lodged a report on March 12, 2025, alleging his daughter was molested by the migrant worker at a convenience store in Kajang. "The molestation was believed to have occurred on Feb 27, 2025. A police report was made two weeks later after the victim shared the incident on March 11, 2025. "The witnesses in this case are still being tracked down to assist with investigations as there is no closed-circuit television footage at the scene," he said.

Immigration matters must go through official channels warns DG
PUTRAJAYA: All immigration matters must be processed through official channels, either at Immigration Department counters or via the official online portal. No officer or third party is permitted to handle applications outside the approved procedures. Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban issued the reminder after a video went viral on social media. The video showed a married couple claiming they paid RM5,000 to a 'Datuk' to arrange a Temporary Employment Visit Pass (PLKS) for their detained sibling. Investigations revealed the digital pass (ePASS) in question was suspected to be fake due to a tampered QR code. A cross-check using the MyIMMs system found no PLKS record linked to the passport number provided. 'JIM strongly refutes the viral allegation and views seriously any attempt to deceive the public,' Zakaria said. He urged victims of such scams to report to the police or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Further investigations will identify the source of the misinformation and ensure legal action is taken. 'JIM will not compromise with any individual who attempts to tarnish the department's reputation or deceive the public,' he added. - Bernama

Immigration DG says work permit issued to detainee in viral video suspected to be fake
KUALA LUMPUR: A work permit shown in a viral video, allegedly issued to a detainee at an immigration depot, is suspected to be fake, said Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban. Checks revealed that the QR code on the permit had been tampered with, and cross-verification via the MyIMMs system using the passport number showed no record of a Temporary Work Visit Pass. "Investigations are underway to identify the source of the data misuse and ensure legal action is taken," Zakaria said in a statement today. The claim surfaced in a video showing a couple meeting the video's account holder to discuss allegations that a work permit had been issued to the woman's brother while in detention. In the video, a couple claimed they paid RM5,000 to a man titled "Datuk" to procure a Temporary Work Visit Pass in exchange for the detainee's release. Despite the QR code appearing valid in the system, the detainee was not released in court and remains in custody. Zakaria also denied claims circulating on social media that a "Datuk" could arrange a temporary work visit pass or ePass documents to free a detainee, stressing that all immigration transactions must go through official counters or the department's online portal. He urged anyone with information or who has fallen victim to such scams to lodge a police report and contact the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
