BRS leader hits back at CM for comments on BC quota, KCR
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy has condemned the comments of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy against former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and on the Backward Classes (BRS) reservation enhancement issue.
Accusing the Congress and Mr. Revanth Reddy of betraying the BC communities after getting their votes in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections with the help of BC Declaration, the BRS leader said in a statement on Friday that the former was enacting a drama now on the reservation enhancement issue after realising that it was not possible for his government to do so.
In the name of 42% reservation to BCs, the Chief Minister had been enacting a drama first in the name of BC Bills, later in the name of Ordinance and now in the name of 'dharna' in New Delhi. Mr. Revanth Reddy had washed off his hands of the matter by blaming it on the Centre and the Prime Minister. Mr. Prashanth Reddy said and asked why AICC leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge who were at a stone's throwaway from the protest site did not participate in it, if the party was sincere.
On the argument of Mr. Revanth Reddy that his government would achieve 42% quota to BCs by making Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister, the BRS leader sought to know whether the Chief Minister was planning to put-off the elections to local bodies till then. On Mr. Revanth Reddy's comments that KCR had imprisoned himself in the farmhouse-jail, the BRS leader asked the former to recollect the past as to who had spent time in jail.

Truth of triumph, says Bihar Congress on Supreme Court's SIR order
Ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 16-day vote adhikar yatra (right to vote march) in Bihar from August 17, the State's party president Rajesh Kumar 'Ram' on Thursday (August 14, 2025) hailed as a 'triumph of truth and defeat of conspiracy' the Supreme Court's interim order on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. The court on Thursday directed the Election Commission to publish the names of voters deleted from the draft roll published on August 1 with reasons. 'This [order] is our first victory,' Mr. Kumar said. 'This is not only an order of the court but a big step taken to protect the democratic values of the country. Since the beginning, we have been saying that deletion of names from the voters' list is a murder of democracy. Today, the Supreme Court has protected democratic rights of people of Bihar and now there will not be any ploy to steal votes,' he added. Mr. Gandhi will start his march from Sasaram and will be joined by Opposition leaders, the party said. The yatra will culminate in a public meeting in Patna's Gandhi Maidan on September 1. The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha will cover 1,300 km, visiting Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Munger, Katihar, Purnia, Supaul, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, West Champaran and Saran districts, said party spokesperson Rajesh Rathore. 'The State unit of the party will organise the nationwide 'save democracy torch procession' in all district headquarters on Thursday,' said party spokesperson Asit Nath Tiwari. Asked how the party will benefit from Mr. Gandhi's 16-day visit in the upcoming Assembly elections, senior Congress leader Kishore Kumar Jha said, 'It will make the desired difference like the party had earlier got after the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.' In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Congress candidate Manoj Kumar had won the Sasaram parliamentary seat defeating BJP's Shivesh Kumar. From the neighbouring Lok Sabha seat Aurangabad, the Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Abhay Kushwaha beat Sushil Kumar Singh of the BJP. Party general secretary (organisation) K. C. Venugopal and other leaders visited Sasaram on Wednesday to review preparations for Mr. Gandhi's visit.

EC slams ‘vote theft' claims as ‘direct attack' on voters, reiterates demand for affidavit
'One Person One Vote' has been in existence since the first election of India in 1951-1952. If anyone has any proof of any person actually voting twice in any election, it should be shared with ECI with a written affidavit rather than colouring all the electors of India as 'Chor' without any proof,' the Election Commission stated. The statement came in response to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's allegation of massive 'vote theft' in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. New Delhi: Election Commission of India on Thursday strongly responded to the 'vote theft' allegations, stating that the attempt to 'create a false narrative' against the poll body is a 'direct attack' on the Indian voters and 'assault' on the integrity of election staff. Reiterating the law that one person is allowed to cast only one vote, the Election Commission again demanded a written affidavit with proof of a person voting twice in any election. 'Trying to create a false narrative by using dirty phrases like 'Vote Chori' for our electors, is not only a direct attack on the crores of Indian electors but also an assault on the integrity of lakhs of election staff, the election body adds,' it added. The statement came in response to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's allegation that over 1,00,250 'fake votes' were created in the Mahadevapura Assembly segment in the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka to ensure a win for the BJP. Earlier in the day, The Delhi Youth Congress workers put up banners reading 'vote chori commission' outside the ECI's office in Delhi, intensifying their protests. Rahul Gandhi has announced the launch of 'VoterAdhikarYatra' against SIR of electoral rolls and called on people to 'join this people's movement' Making the announcement in a post on X, the Congress MP said, 'From August 17, with #VoterAdhikarYatra, we are launching a direct fight against vote theft from the soil of Bihar.' 'This is not just an election issue – it is a decisive battle to protect democracy, the constitution, and the principle of 'one man, one vote.' We will ensure a clean voter list across the entire country. Youth, workers, farmers – every citizen, rise and join this people's movement. This time, the defeat of vote thieves – the victory of the people, the victory of the constitution' This report is auto-generated from ANI news service. After S&P Rating Upgrade, BJP Attacks Rahul Gandhi Over "Dead Economy" Remark
New Delhi: The comment of Congress's Rahul Gandhi that India is a "dead economy" had backfired after S&P Global Ratings raised its long-term unsolicited sovereign credit ratings on India to 'BBB' from 'BBB-', and its short-term ratings to 'A-2' from 'A-3'. The upgrade reflects India's "buoyant economic growth, against the backdrop of an enhanced monetary policy environment that anchors inflationary expectations," S&P said. It brought massive jeers from the BJP, which questioned why Rahul Gandhi "roots for failure". Last month, after announcing 25 per cent tariffs on imports from India, US President Donald Trump said he did not care about New Delhi's dealings with Moscow and that the two "can take their dead economies down together". Shortly after, Mr Gandhi told reporters at Parliament that he agreed with the US President. "He is right, everybody knows this except the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. I am glad that President Trump has stated a fact." It had unleashed a political storm with not just the BJP attacking him, even Shashi Tharoor and Rajiv Shukla giving dissenting views. "India remains among the best performing economies in the world. It staged a remarkable comeback from the pandemic with real GDP growth over fiscal 2022 (year-end March 31) to fiscal 2024 averaging 8.8%, the highest in Asia-Pacific," S&P said today. "We expect these growth dynamics to continue in the medium term, with GDP increasing 6.8% annually over the next three years. This has a moderating effect on the ratio of government debt to GDP despite still-wide fiscal deficits," it added. The recent performance of the Indian economy, S&P said, highlights its "historical resilience". "We also predicate our projections for solid growth (notwithstanding external headwinds) on the country's constructive structural trends. These trends include healthy demographics and competitive unit labor costs. In addition, we believe India's corporate and financial sectors have stronger balance sheets than before the pandemic," it added.
