NABAWAN: The Chief Minister's Outreach Programme with non-governmental organisation (NGO) and young entrepreneurs is expected to benefit some 5,000 youth entrepreneurs by the end of June. Chief Minister's Department's Government and People Cooperation Institute (Ikrar) Director Azrul Ibrahim said since its launch in 2022, some 4,100 young entrepreneurs had received RM500 each in start-up capital to help kick-start or expand their small businesses. He said the programme was inspired by the Chief Minister's vision to ensure that the majority of young entrepreneurs operating small-scale businesses in rural and suburban areas receive support and assistance from the State Government. 'As of now 4,100 entrepreneurs, including in Nabawan, have received the aid, and we are targeting 5,000 recipients by the end of June,' he said when met during the Chief Minister's Outreach Programme with NGOs and Young Entrepreneurs at the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) on Monday. Also present were Nabawan Community Development Leader Deckson Andipai, Gagasan Rakyat Nabawan Youth Chief Ag Azuan Pg Hamzah and local community leaders. The programme was officiated by Nabawan Assemblyman Datuk Ghani Mohamad Yassin.
Advertisement A total of 100 young entrepreneurs from the district received the aid during the event. Over 450 Pulau Gaya residents benefit from HRD Corp outreach

KOTA KINABALU: The Human Resources Ministry (Kesuma) and Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) have extended skills training and aid to over 450 residents of Pulau Gaya through the 'Sentuhan Kesuma bersama HRD Corp di Bawah Bayu' community outreach programme. Held in conjunction with National Training Week 2025, the event featured hands-on workshops in digital marketing, drop shipping, and floral entrepreneurship for women, youth, and students from Kampung Gaya, Lok Urai, Torong Logong and Kesuapan. Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the ministry aims to reach 60,000 Sabahans with skills training this year, adding that national progress depends on equipping the people with better skills. HRD Corp also launched a strategic partnership with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) under the SHINE initiative to establish Malaysia's first lifelong learning hub focused on workforce development and research. RM600 million ‘plucked from nowhere', Sabah owed billions: Yong
Published on: Sunday, June 01, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jun 01, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee ( pic ) has criticised the federal government for failing to return Sabah's constitutional 40 per cent revenue entitlement, despite Inland Revenue Board (IRB) collecting RM5.7 billion in 2024 and targeting RM6.2 billion this year from the State. Yong, also SAPP President, said the average of RM6 billion collected annually from Sabah means the state is owed at least RM2.4 billion each year, yet receives only an interim payment of RM600 million, a figure he described as 'plucked from nowhere.' He also questioned why the City Hall (DBKK) is aiding IRB in targeting small-time hawkers for tax enforcement while Sabah's legitimate revenue remains unpaid, calling the move a contradiction of DBKK's role in uplifting local livelihoods. He said these hawkers and micro businesses are not major tax evaders but struggling informal traders facing rising costs and reduced purchasing power, warning that such enforcement damages economic resilience. Esteel's RM31 billion project a vote of confidence in Sabah's future, says Hajiji

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor has hailed the RM31 billion three-phase project by Esteel Enterprise Sabah Sdn Bhd as a major milestone for the state's economic development. He said it would generate jobs, foster innovation and support local businesses. Speaking at the launch of the project's Phase 1 at the Sabah International Convention Centre yesterday, Hajiji thanked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Singapore-based Green Esteel Group for backing Sabah's industrial ambitions. 'This project is not merely a financial commitment. It is a vote of your confidence in our vision and in our capacity to foster growth and development,' he said in his speech. Hajiji added that the steel manufacturing plant, located in the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Sogip), is expected to create a wide range of 'ripple effects' in sectors such as green technology and local entrepreneurship. He said job creation must benefit Sabahans first and urged industry players to prioritise the training and upskilling of the local workforce. Hajiji also credited more than a dozen federal and state agencies for their role in fast-tracking approvals for the Esteel project and assured the group that their 'trust is well-placed'. Hajiji reaffirmed that Sabah will maintain its investor-friendly stance, noting that the state has implemented policies to attract more investors. 'We are committed to creating a conducive environment that nurtures investments and fosters collaboration,' he said, adding that besides Sogip, the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park has also seen increased tenancy over the past four years.
