Greene is third in the AL with 24 home runs, only behind Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh and New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge. Detroit fans would have loved to watch their homegrown product hit on the big stage Monday night, but he didn't believe it was the right time.

'I'm just trying to stay healthy,' Greene said. 'It's a lot of swings. Some guys can do it. It's meant for some guys. I don't think it's meant for me right now because I haven't hit on the field in two years. I don't think I would have maybe done a good job.'
There have been plenty of examples over the last decade of MLB players not performing at a high level following their participation in the Home Run Derby. Greene, who has battled injuries over the past few seasons, didn't want to risk injury or ruin his swing. It's understandable, as the Tigers have the best record in MLB.
Despite the declined invitations, Greene had the honor of starting the 2025 MLB All-Star Game in the outfield next to Judge and his teammate, Javier Baez. It was a special moment for the Tigers outfielder, and now he will focus on leading his team to the World Series in November.Related Headlines

Raiders sign Kolton Miller to 3-year, $66 million extension, AP source says
HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Kolton Miller, one of the NFL's top left tackles, signed a three-year, $66 million extension with the Las Vegas Raiders, with $42.5 million guaranteed, a person with knowledge of the contract said Wednesday. Cincinnati Reds make another trade, land Tampa Bay starter Zack Littell, pending physical
The Cincinnati Reds didn't waste any time adding a pitcher to the roster after trading one way to acquire third-baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes on Wednesday. The Reds had a deal in place late Wednesday night to acquire Tampa Bay Rays starter Zack Littell, sources confirmed. The deal was expected to be completed Thursday, the day of MLB's trade deadline, once he clears a physical. Littell, a right-hander who's eligible for free agency after this season, is expected to join a rotation that for now includes veteran swingman Nick Martinez and rookie starter Chase Burns (whose workload is potential concern as he piles up increasing career-high numbers of starts and innings this season). Opening Day starter Hunter Greene also is expected back from a groin injury in August. It was not immediately clear what the return going to the Rays will be, although sources say it includes at least one player off the big-league roster. NEW YORK (AP) — Ryan McMahon drove in the winning run in the 11th inning with a single to deep center field, and the New York Yankees edged the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 on Wednesday night in a back-and-forth finish. Trent Grisham hit a tying homer in the eighth, Anthony Volpe did the same in the ninth and Cody Bellinger evened the score again for the Yankees with an RBI triple in the 10th.
