Subis to anchor eco-tourism push with Niah Cave as flagship, says Lukanisman

MIRI (May 10): The development of Subis District will be strategically aligned with tourism-driven initiatives under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with Niah Cave positioned as the district's flagship attraction, according to Sibuti MP Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
Speaking at the 'Program Bakti Madani Subis' at Dewan Sepupok, Niah today, the federal Deputy Health Minister said Subis' rich natural assets, including pristine beaches, cultural events, and heritage sites, had made it an ideal future hub for agro-tourism and eco-tourism in northern Sarawak.
He noted that the district is already well-known for its oil agricultural output, particularly oil palm cultivation and local products such as 'kelulut' (stingless bee) honey from Bekenu and 'belacan' (shrimp paste) from the Bekenu-Niah area.
'Subis also serves as a strategic stop-over point for travellers heading to Suai, Niah and Bintulu,' he said.
'Destinations such as Tanjung Bungai Beach, Peliau Beach, Tusan Beach, the Miri-SIbuti Coral Reef, as well as Lambir National Park, offer strong tourism potential.'
Beyond tourism, he also outlined a series of development proposals under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), with a strong emphasis on education.
'The plan includes the complete rebuilding of four dilapidated schools in the district.
The programme was jointly organised by the Performance Acceleration and Coordination Unit (Pacu) and the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda), drawing participation from hundreds of residents. Lukanisman Niah Cave Subis tourism

We are helping to build mutual understanding, empower communities and shape a future where education extends beyond borders and leaves a lasting impact,' he said. On NAPEI's role, Lau explained that for over three decades, the association has played a pivotal role in enhancing the private education ecosystem and its global presence. By engaging with its member institutions, the association has promoted high standards in academic delivery and supported initiatives that have expanded the global reach of Malaysian education, he said. He noted that NAPEI members have offered short courses for students seeking to improve their English proficiency while immersing themselves in Malaysian culture, incorporating cultural and heritage experiences, collaborations with local schools, homestays with local families, sports tourism, eco- and nature-based activities, as well as modules aligned with Sustainable Development Goals.

First direct charter flight to Hiroshima

APAD opens applications for temporary change of licence
KUALA LUMPUR: The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has opened applications for the Temporary Change of Licence (LPS) for the peak season, starting yesterday (May 15) until June 4, in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration. In a statement today, APAD said the move was to ensure sufficient express bus services for Hari Raya Aidiladha, which would be celebrated on June 7 and 8. 'Interested bus operators are invited to apply for the LPS. 'Applications can be submitted via the i-SPKP system, with the LPS validity period for all approved applications set from June 5 to 10,' it said. According to APAD, no 10 per cent surcharge would be imposed for the LPS during the peak season. The agency said it always strived to provide the best service at all times, in line with the core values of Malaysia MADANI, namely Kesejahteraan (Prosperity) and Ihsan (Compassion), by improving mobility and the well-being of the people through safe and comfortable land public transport services.
