Maggie Gyllenhaal's ‘The Bride!' Sneak Peek Drops F-Bomb, Smashes Skulls
Warner Bros. has a lot of hope and belief in Maggie Gyllenhaal's 'The Bride!', a highly stylized and brutally violent take on the tale of the Frankenstein Monster and his Bride set in Great Depression Chicago.
They have so much belief that earlier this month they moved the release date of the film back from fall to March 2026, the month from which they turned 'Dune: Part Two' and 'Godzilla x Kong' into major box office hits. To show theaters why they're so hyped, film division chiefs Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca brought Gyllenhaal and star Jessie Buckley onstage to talk about the film and show the first trailer.
The trailer is incredibly brutal, opening with a slow-motion image of Buckley playing the Bride in the accident that killed her, her limbs slowly snapping and her body splayed out on the ground. She is then brought back to life, all memory of her past lost and black ooze pouring from her lips, much to the delight of the gruesomely stitched Frankenstein Monster, played by Christian Bale.
The trailer then shows the couple fighting to survive in a violent Chicago, with the Monster willing to kill anyone who dares threaten them. The Bride watches shocked as her horrific husband slams an attacker's skull into a wall until blood is pouring down the wall, and as he stands triumphant over the corpse, he hisses, 'Til death do us part.'
And just to punch home how in-your-face this film will be, here's the tagline shown in bright orange letters: 'Here. Comes. The. Fucking. Bride.'
In 1935, Elsa Lanchester played the famous Bride of Frankenstein in the Boris Karloff film of the same name, instantly becoming a timeless horror icon. But Gyllenhaal, who first got the idea for the film after being captivated by a man's tattoo of the Bride, sees potential for that character to become something never seen before on the big screen.
'In the original, the Bride is in the movie for about three minutes and doesn't speak, which could not be more different than ours,' she said. 'I'm really interested in monsters and I think that all of us have a little aspect of something monstrous in us. Monsters in our movie do monstrous things, but they're also our heroes.'
'The Bride!' will stomp into theaters on March 6, 2026.

When Is ‘A Minecraft Movie' Coming To Streaming On Max?
Warner Bros. Discovery announced in May that Jack Black and Jason Momoa's A Minecraft Movie would begin streaming on Max in June. However, we're a week and a half into June and A Minecraft Movie still has no release date on the Max streaming service, which will renamed HBO Max this summer. News broke on May 21 that A Minecraft Movie was part Max's new lineup of programming in June. The move was surprising given the expediency of the release coming to the streaming service, considering the film opened in theaters on April 4 and made its debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on May 13. In Warner Bros. Discovery's May announcement of A Minecraft Movie's debut on the service, the press release only said the movie was 'coming soon.' A Minecraft Movie is still playing in 346 North American theaters. To date, the film has earned $423.6 million domestically and nearly $527.6 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $951.2 million against a $150 million budget, according to The Numbers. A Minecraft Movie attracted unique attention early in the film's run thanks to the film's "Chicken Jockey" scene and the havoc that erupted during screenings. In recent reports, When to Stream is sticking with its projection. The most recent mention of A Minecraft Movie's pending release on Max from Warner Bros. Discovery came in a Tuesday press release, where the title was mentioned among others that will be available to 12 new countries when the platform expands its global footprint in July. Rated PG, A Minecraft Movie follows four misfits (Jason Momoa, Sebastian Hansen, Danielle Brooks and Emma Meyers) who are sucked into a portal in a mine that brings them to the Overworld, where anything the mind imagines can be built with blocks. It's in the Overworld where the group encounters a smattering of block-shaped creatures and the human, Steve (Jack Black), who is being held by a nefarious, pig-like group known as the Piglins. Directed by Jared Hess, A Minecraft Movie also stars Jennifer Coolidge and the voices of Hess, Rachel House, Jemaine Clement, Bret McKenzie and Matt Berry. A Minecraft Movie, of course, is based on the blockbuster Mojang Studios video game Minecraft.

Robert Eggers Is Making a ‘Christmas Carol' Movie, and Willem Dafoe May Be Scrooge
Over the decades, few stories have been as malleable as Charles Dickens' A Christmas Story. It's been a Bill Murray comedy, it's been a Robert Zemeckis CGI fest, and it's even been a Muppet movie, just to name a few. Next up for the iconic tale, though, is what we can only assume is a much darker, scarier twist from none other than Robert Eggers. Deadline reports that the man behind The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman, and last year's surprise hit Nosferatu, is in talks to write and direct an adaptation of the story for Warner Bros. And, though no cast is attached yet, Eggers is reportedly eyeing frequent collaborator Willem Dafoe to play the lead character of Ebenezer Scrooge. If you're like us, your mind is currently trying to figure out what an Eggers version of this story looks like, and it's not a pretty picture, in the best possible way. Eggers has largely avoided adaptations, instead preferring deep, personal research to inform his own original stories, though that slightly changed with Nosferatu. Next up, he's co-written and will direct Werwulf, another period horror piece which will focus on—you guessed—werewolves. When you think about A Christmas Story, though, it's just so in Eggers' wheelhouse. There's the original, period setting, of course. The mix of pathos with fantasy and horror. Lots of opportunities for evocative and beautiful sets, creatures, and costumes. Plus, for Hollywood, it's a name brand. It's kind of the perfect bullseye in every single way. And that's before you even put Dafoe in the role of Scrooge. It's basically the role he was born to play. Eggers is also attached to a reboot of Labyrinth, so there's no word about which film would go after Werwulf, which is currently looking at a Christmas 2026 release. But, if Christmas Carol is next, there seems to be a very good chance that Christmas 2028 might just scare the Dickens out of us.

‘Care Bears' Movie in the Works From Josh Greenbaum at Warner Bros.
The Care Bears are set to open their hearts for a new feature project. Josh Greenbaum will direct the movie Care Bears that is in early development at Warner Bros.
