My clever new fridge saves me hundreds on food AND electricity bills – it even has a cool Ring doorbell perk

FRIDGES and freezers are getting in on the smart stuff these days - and they can save you a heap of money in the long-run too.
The latest flash model from Samsung has done just that for me, both on food and my electricity bill.

There are a number of mind-boggling techy features your everyday fridge can't do too.
Some are better as party tricks to show off to friends but the majority of them have turned out to be super handy in my house.
The exact Samsung model I'm trying is the 621L Bespoke AI Series 9 Side-by-Side Fridge Freezer with AI Home (RS90F64EDTEU).
So what's so special about it?

Samsung Side-by-Side Fridge Freezer review
The fridge door has a little display which is your portal to a number of apps.
More and more fridge freezers are adopting these sorts of screens - and at one point they were quite big.
This one is small and unimposing, allowing you to access things like Spotify and YouTube.

It's touch screen and voice powered, so you can essentially do away with having an Alexa or similar digital assistant in your kitchen, especially as the speaker can go pretty loud.
The voice assistant is Samsung's own, Bixby, so you'll have to say "Hey Bixby" to summon anything.
Samsung reveals genius way to help you save money on food using AI in your FRIDGE
For the most part, I just use the touch screen - but there's one special trick that's very much Bixby's.
And that's the ability to open the doors for you.

At first, I dismissed this as a bit of a gimmick (and was what I referred to as a "party trick" earlier).
However, truth be told, there have been times when I've been cooking, I have my hands full with items and suddenly this feature has come in handy.
The handles do have sensors on them too that automatically opens the door for you when you simply hover your hand over it - I also thought was just plain lazy initially but I've grown to make that the norm all the time now.
A minor annoyance to mention, sometimes when I opened the fridge door my elbow passed the sensor for the freezer door causing it to open too.

Saving money on food and more
What I really care about is saving money and I'm shamefully aware that my food waste could be a whole lot better.
Sometimes you forget, other times you have no idea what to do with that one ingredient.
Well, Samsung's SmartThings helps you cut food waste, thereby reducing how much I spend on shopping.

You can log items via the app on your phone - which is available on both Android and iOS, not just Samsung's handsets - or tap them in on your fridge screen, along with their use-by dates.
While it's very manual, I've resorted to treating it as my shopping list app as opposed to just using my phone's notes feature as I did before.
The fridge will also suggest recipes based on the ingredients logged for some easy ideas, crafted by the likes of Jamie Oliver and more.
There are other ways the fridge helps you save money too.
For instance, it learns your usage patterns so that energy is optimised at the right times.
You can even tell it when you're on holiday so it'll go into an energy saving mode.
The screen will tell you exactly how much electricity the fridge has used too (last month it was just shy of £10).
And as there is a water and ice dispenser, the tech tells you when it's time to change the filter too.

Inside
When it comes to the primary function, keeping your food chilled and frozen, the inside is perfectly ordinary.
In the fridge there are five shelves, as well as two fruit and veg compartments at the bottom. And there are four shelves with two storage draws along the bottom of the freezer.
Another thing to note is that it's pretty quiet as a fridge freezer goes, despite being a pretty big appliance.

Ring doorbell trick
My favourite trick of all, arguably, is the simplest.
And that's integration with Ring doorbell.
SmartThings is compatible with hundreds of smart home brands, not just devices made by Samsung, which is a rare treat.
Once you've linked your Ring doorbell into the SmartThings app it means the fridge screen will alert you when someone is at the front door.

You can even answer the call there and then, so another reason not to have another smart hub sitting around your kitchen.
Samsung Side-by-Side Fridge Freezer: conclusion
At £2,239, the 621L Bespoke AI Series 9 Side-by-Side Fridge Freezer with AI Home doesn't come cheap.
But it's worth noting you get five year warranty for parts and labour, as well as 20 year warranty on digital inverter compressor.
You can also knock up to £100 off if you recycle an old appliance with Samsung when making the purchase.

But for £2,239 you get a premium, slick and feature-packed appliance that should save you hundreds - if not thousands - in the long run with those food and energy management features.

Spotify to increase premium subscription prices

Spotify is increasing its premium subscription prices, the company said on Monday. Shares in the company gained in premarket trading after it announced price hikes in many markets outside the US. The Swedish music streaming company is updating prices across South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region, according to a statement on Monday. Over the next month, customers will receive an email outlining the new price plan. Subscription prices vary by country, but the statement included a sample email describing a price increase of €1 per month to €11.99 ($13.87). Spotify shares rose as much as 5% in premarket trading in New York. They have risen about 40% so far this year. Investors and record labels have been encouraging Spotify to raise prices further to capitalize on demand. The company has shown it has fiercely loyal listeners, who have spent sometimes years building music and audio libraries. Spotify listeners are the least likely to cancel among the major video or audio streaming services in the US, according to a report from research firm Antenna last year. The company raised prices in the US twice last year, up to $11.99 a month. In the second quarter, Spotify reported that subscribers increased 12% from a year earlier to 276m, reflecting 'growth across all regions'. The company has 696m monthly active users. The price hikes follow a disappointing earnings release last week, where the company reported it had swung to a loss due to high-than-expected expenses related to employee compensation. The platform has introduced audio books as part of its premium subscription plan and has spent this year focused on expanding its video and advertising business. Spotify executives said last week that the company is run to 'optimize for long-term, not short-term gains.' Chief business officer Alex Norström said Spotify would raise prices 'when it's appropriate for the business.' Speaking to analysts after the earnings report, he said Spotify essentially raises prices all the time. In the last quarter, the company increased subscription costs in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. 'And I can report to you that, on churn, we didn't see anything out of the ordinary for Spotify.'

Fears of Amazon price hike and MORE ads as company boss teases worrying change for shoppers

AMAZON has sparked concern that more ads could pop up on Alexa devices as it introduces new AI features to the popular voice assistant. The company's new AI supercharged Alexa is still rolling out, which users can pay for if they don't have a Prime membership. Advertisement 2 Alexa is the world's most famous digital voice assistant Credit: Getty 2 Alexa+ is still rolling out in the US with no update on when it'll land in the UK Credit: Getty Alexa+ is optional and costs $19.99 (£15) per month without a Prime subscription. But there could be even more ads on the way as Amazon looks to make its devices profitable. Currently, users already see some limited ads, such as on Echo Show displays. There's also the "By the way" feature that makes subtle suggestions to you based off what you ask Alexa. Advertisement Amazon chief Andy Jassy has now hinted other ads are in the works. "There will be opportunities, as people are engaging in more multiturn conversations [with Alexa Plus], to have advertising play a role to help people find discovery, and also as a lever to drive revenue," he said during a recent investor call. TechCrunch has speculated that this could mean paying extra for an ad-free tier of Alexa. But users have raged over the idea and mocked possible scenarios. Advertisement "When you tell it to turn on your lights, it'll turn on the lights and then give a 15 second advertisement for other lights you could buy on one joked on Reddit. "All I want it to do is provide random facts when I ask about them, play the music I ask it to and adjust the household settings I tell it to," another person commented. "I don't want suggestions and I sure as s*** won't be listening to ads." A third added: "They are a glorified Bluetooth speaker. Advertisement "I will throw mine in the trash before I suffer through a single ad." And a fourth said: "I already stopped watching prime because of the ads. I'm fine dropping Alexa too." There's still no word on when Alexa+ will be rolled out to other countries including the UK.

The tech giant has also unveiled its range of foldable phones SAMSUNG customers across the world were hit with issues with their smart TVs over the weekend. Tech-savvy users figured out a way to solve the outage and shared the hot tip with others. 2 Samsung TV users were unable to access YouTube and Prime Video Credit: Samsung Reddit became awash with Samsung customers reporting issues with their TVs last week, claiming they were unable to access apps like YouTube, Apple TV, Hulu and Prime Video. They claimed that the apps were still visible on the menu, but as soon as they tried to open them, they were presented with a variety of error messages. Netflix, which operates on its own content delivery network, was unaffected by the outage, which suggested the issues were connected to the servers used by other streaming apps. Top TV tip On Reddit, users from across the globe were reporting issues. read more on samsung FOLD ON! I try mind-boggling 4mm thin folding Samsung phone – with a perk missing on iPhone Denmark, America, England, El Salvador were some of the countries affected by the fault. Following a discussion on Reddit, one user shared the handy trick. "Suggest you hold the power button on your remote until the splash screen comes up. That's a full power cycle. Or you can unplug, leave unplugged for 30 seconds, and then power up," they wrote. Another advised: "Try to reboot the TV, and if it doesn't work, reboot the router. If it doesn't work, hold the power button on the remote until it resets." Samsung's scramble One user on Reddit claimed to have received a response from Samsung support, letting them know that the company was "aware of a potential disruption of service on your Samsung TV". The brand added that its engineers were working to fix the issue "as soon as possible". The issue is now resolved, but for Samsung smart TV customers, this could be a helpful tip to remember. The Sun has contacted Samsung for comment. Foldable phones This comes after customers have gone wild for the new Samsung foldable smartphones. The tech giant has unveiled a new range - and they are thinner and lighter than before. This includes a new Galaxy Z Fold7 for those wanting to seamlessly switch to a big screen experience, the Galaxy Z Flip7 for a compact handset, as well as a cheaper Galaxy Z Filp7 FE. On the Galaxy Z Fold7, Samsung has managed to bring the weight down to 215g (less than an iPhone 16 Pro Max) and the thickness to 8.9mm folded. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip7 is the thinnest the range has seen yet at 6.5mm when folded - and the battery size has been increased despite the slimming down. And for the first time a budget "FE" edition has been introduced, starting at £849. While Samsung has led the way on foldables, the category as a whole still remains smaller compared to traditional phone formats. So, to give people a chance to test them out Samsung has started a new 100 day trial period. It means you can buy any one of the new Galaxy Z devices and return it for a full refund up to 100 days later if you're unconvinced. 2 People shared the handy tip on Reddit Credit: Getty
