BJP's Jitendra Singh takes dig at Revanth Reddy's PoK remarks: ‘Hilarious'
He asserted that PoK exists today due to decisions made by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who held him responsible for both the partition of the nation and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
"It is hilarious if any Congress leader says that if Rahul Gandhi were the PM of India, the PoK would have been India's part. But the fact is that had Rahul Gandhi's great maternal grandfather, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, not been the PM of India, the PoJK would not have been (in existence) today. It is the result of his actions that first, the nation was divided, then Jammu and Kashmir was divided," Singh told ANI.
"We must not forget that when the India-Pakistan war was going on, and our forces were in a situation to win the PoK back, it was the then PM Jawaharlal Nehru who declared a unilateral ceasefire on the Akashvani without consulting with anyone," he added.
Singh's remarks came in response to statements made by Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, who said that if Rahul Gandhi had been the Prime Minister, India would have taken back PoK.
He was speaking at an event that raised questions on why Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called a ceasefire to the recent military operations against Pakistan without consulting political parties, even though an all-party meeting was held before military strikes began.
"Why was no all-party meeting called to seek the opinions of all the parties before declaring a ceasefire?" asked Reddy on Thursday while participating in Congress 'Jai Hind Yatra' in Nizampet, Hyderabad.
Addressing the event, Reddy called PM Modi an "expired rupee". He said, "Modi is expired rupee, Modi is like a 1000 rupees' invalid note. Today, this country needs Rahul Gandhi's leadership. If a leader like Rahul Gandhi would have been Prime Minister of this country, then he would have taken (former PM) Indira Gandhi as inspiration and would have walked in Kaali's (Maata) way and would have made Pakistan into two parts and would have taken PoK back."
Reddy drew comparisons with the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's leadership and her decisive action against China and Pakistan, including the 1971 war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh.

Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, MLA, has sought a Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) probe into the alleged corruption in the implementation of the Pradhana Manthri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyaan (PM-KUSUM) scheme in Kerala by the Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (Anert). In his complaint to Manoj Abraham, Director, VACB, on Saturday, Mr. Chennithala urged the VACB to register a case and initiate a detailed investigation into the tendering process and other aspects of the implementation of the Centrally supported scheme. Mr. Chennithala reiterated his charge that top Anert officials were involved in the manipulations in the selection of bidders for the PM-KUSUM scheme and the award of contract work's rate 'with a view to obtain undue pecuniary gains to the bidders as a whole and thereby caused wrongful loss to government.' Foul play alleged With respect to the tendering process, he alleged foul play in the elimination of the lowest bidder from the field of choice. Mr. Chennithala pointed out that only a proper investigation can bring out the total monetary loss sustained by the government on account of the irregularities. A fair investigation is also needed to ascertain how the Union government guidelines pertaining to the implementation of the project were breached, Mr. Chennithala said. In connection with the PM-KUSUM scheme, Mr. Chennithala had levelled serious charges against Anert and its CEO Narendranath Veluri through the statements in the media. On its part, Anert had published an official refutation of Mr. Chennithala's claims on its website. Among its aims, PM-KUSUM envisions solarisation of individual grid-connected agricultural pumps. Anert had been picked as the agency for its implementation in Kerala.

Lok Sabha to discuss astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla's return to India tomorrow
The Lok Sabha will hold a special discussion on Monday on the subject 'India's first astronaut aboard the International Space Station – Critical role of the space programme for Viksit Bharat by 2047 – to mark Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla's return to India. Shukla returned to India early Sunday to a rousing welcome by a large number of people waving the tricolour and beating drums at the airport here to celebrate his historic visit to the International Space Station (ISS). The Monsoon Session of Parliament will resume on Monday, 18 August after a brief break, but there are no signs of a thaw between the government and the Opposition over the demand for a debate on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Monsoon Session ends on 21 August. Shukla is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and travel to his hometown, Lucknow. He is also expected to return to the capital to participate in the National Space Day celebrations on August 22-23. Shukla, who became the second Indian to undertake a spaceflight as part of the Axiom-4 mission, and his back-up astronaut-designate Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair were welcomed at the airport by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and ISRO Chairman V Narayanan. "Thank you sir. Surely feels good to be back home," Shukla posted on X in response to Singh's post welcoming after receiving him at the airport. Along with three other astronauts - Peggy Whitson (US), Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski (Poland), and Tibor Kapu (Hungary) - Shukla conducted over 60 experiments and 20 outreach sessions during the 18-day mission Earlier on Saturday, Shukla had posted a smiling photograph of himself sitting in an aeroplane on Instagram, saying he was filled with mixed emotions as he left the US and looked forward to returning to India to share his experiences with everyone back home. Shukla and his backup astronaut Nair participated in the Independence Day celebrations at the Indian Consulate in Houston on Friday. Addressing the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi on Friday said India was developing its own space station and noted that Group Captain Shukla had returned from a space mission. "Our Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla has returned from the space station. In the coming days, he is returning to India," Modi had said.
