Gen Z has named two Australian cities among the world's best to live in
This data comes from Time Out's annual ranking of the world's best cities, which is based on a survey of 18,500 locals who share their opinions on everything from food and culture to nightlife and green spaces. But what makes a city great means something different to each generation, and that's why we dug a little deeper into the data from the under-30s to find out what they actually value, including affordability, great nightlife, an accessible cultural scene, walkability and ease of meeting new people.
Australia's cultural capital, Melbourne, has landed in second place (slay!), beating out zoomer hot spots like Barcelona, Edinburgh and Mexico City. According to the data, 77 per cent of Gen Z described Melbourne as diverse and inclusive, with a whopping 96 per cent giving high ratings to the city's art and culture scene. Our beloved city also scored highly for quality of life, with an impressive 91 per cent of twenty-somethings saying the quality of life in Melbourne is 'good' or 'amazing'.
We reached out to our Gen Z audience via Instagram to discover exactly what they love most about Melbourne – and yep, the responses well and truly confirmed the global findings. The most common answer was just how multicultural our city is, with Melbourne's café culture also getting plenty of mentions (given how twenty-somethings are gravitating towards 'third spaces' that offer a matcha-fuelled antidote to nightlife fatigue, we're not surprised in the slightest). Street art, sport, the electronic music scene, theatre and how safe the city is were also specified.
Sydney just missed out on a top ten spot, ranking as the 11th-best city for Gen Z to live in worldwide. Its housing market is more unaffordable than Melbourne's, and Sydneysiders have a reputation for going to bed earlier than most – but on the whole, it's a fabulous place to live and work in your twenties.
So, which city snagged the top spot for Gen Zs? It was none other than Bangkok. The Thai capital took the crown thanks to its stand-out scores in happiness (84 per cent of Gen Z say they're happy living there) and affordability (71 per cent say it's a budget-friendly city to live in). Rounding out the top five behind Melbourne were Cape Town, New York City and Copenhagen.

Friends and family watched as their relationship blossomed alongside Diogo's own rise through the footballing ranks. From local youth clubs to making his mark in the Premier League, Rute was always by his side, a constant support during the pressures of professional sport. Together, they built a family, welcoming three children over the years. Son Dinis was born in 2021, while Duarte was born in 2023. Their daughter arrived in November 2024. Those close to the family described Diogo as a devoted father who cherished every moment with his children, sometimes sharing snaps with his followers online. Dream wedding After years together, the couple finally tied the knot on June 22, 2025, in an intimate ceremony in Porto. The wedding was attended by friends, family, and teammates who gathered to witness the union. The couple shared glimpses of the special day on social media, with Diogo captioning a post, "A day we will never forget," and Rute responding, "My dream came true." The footballer replied, "But I'm the lucky one". The wedding day itself was a picture of happiness, from their first dance to moments of quiet intimacy shared between the couple. It seemed to mark the beginning of the next chapter in their lives, but sadly 11 days later news broke of Diogo's fatal crash. Stunning pictures shared via Instagram show the couple beaming from ear to ear in front of a church altar, with Rute looking breathtaking in an ivory dress and flowing veil. In one photo, they are accompanied by their three young children. Another snap shows the couple emerging from the church amid a flurry of confetti, embarking on what should have been the first exciting steps of a long and happy life together. Just 11 days after their wedding, Diogo and his brother André Silva were killed in a catastrophic car crash on Spain's A‑52 highway. Reports indicate that their Lamborghini suffered a tyre blowout, veered off the road, and caught fire, leaving no chance for escape. Heartbreakingly, Diogo's final social media post was the couple's wedding video that was posted less than 24 hours before the accident. Special vow to three children Diogo is survived by two sons and a daughter who was born in December 2024. Just a month before his daughter arrived, the footballer opened up about mental health and family life in a video on his club's YouTube channel. Sitting down with Lee Richardson, the club's performance psychologist, Diogo highlighted how football, being a team sport, can sometimes allow players to mask their feelings. "As a team sport, you can sometimes hide or benefit from what the team is doing or not. And in those individual sports, like boxing, Olympians, [they're by] themselves. So when they are not good, you can clearly see something is wrong," he shared. The doting father went on to discuss his children, explaining that even after being on the pitch all day, he had to be "on it" when he came home to his family. He shared: "When I go home after playing, I still have a family. I have two kids, three almost, and the dogs, and the stress, it doesn't stop. In a poignant vow to his family, he said: "You want to be the best father you can be". The star added: "[You] try to lead by example, give him good feedback, even though sometimes you want to get a bit more rest in the afternoon, and they are all happy because you're finally at home and they want to play. I had this yesterday after the game. I wanted to get a bit of rest. One of my kids wanted to play some football and you need to be on it." Wife's statement The brothers had been heading to the Spanish port of Santander so Jota could return to Liverpool for pre-season training. Scots DJ Denis Sulta has tied the knot with Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson in a stunning three-day wedding celebration in Ireland. Sulta, whose real name is Hector Barbour, and the Northern Irish star, best known for playing Erin Quinn in the Channel 4 sitcom, exchanged vows at Dromquinna Manor in County Kerry. The pair, who have been engaged since Denis' romantic 2023 proposal on Donegal beach, honoured their Celtic roots as they said "I do" in front of their nearest and dearest. "Then we had buses pick everyone up and take them to a pub down the road, before we headed back and kept partying at the bar!" Mock The Week star reveals he is cancer free and returning to the stage 'very soon' as he opens up about 'dark moments' during treatment
Milton Jones has revealed he is officially cancer free and will be returning to the stage 'very soon'. The Mock The Week comedian, 61, revealed in April that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was at the time preparing to undergo surgery. In an update on his condition, Milton shared a statement on his Instagram on Friday announcing that he was now cancer-free. Milton thanked the doctors and nurses who had helped him get better, as well as his loved-ones for supporting him, as well as revealing he would be returning to the stage soon for his rescheduled tour dates. Getting candid in the post, Milton went on to open up about the 'dark moments' during his treatment. He admitted that there were times during treatment where he 'wondered if anyone would ever see me again'. His statement read: 'A few months ago I had to stop my tour because I needed treatment for prostate cancer. I'm glad to say I've had that treatment and am now cancer free. 'So many thanks to all the doctors and nurses who helped me get better - I couldn't do their job, I tried, but apparently you have to be qualified. 'A big thank you to my family, friends, all those who helped reschedule things and the many others who have been so nice to me. Along with all those who have kept hold of their tickets for the shows that have been rescheduled and apologies to those whose shows we were unable to move.' He added: 'I have to admit there were a few dark moments when I wondered if anyone would ever see me again, but then I released I was leaning against the light switch. 'Thankfully I'm now in a completely different place and if you look at my website you'll see that very soon I'll be in lots of other different places on your tour, I hope to see you there.' Announcing his shock diagnosis earlier this year, Milton revealed he would be cancelling a string of tour days. While Milton declared his cancer was 'treatable', he said he needed to focus on his recovery after surgery as he vowed to return to the stage as soon as possible. He said in a statement at the time: 'I'm so sorry about this, but I need to announce the cancellation of several dates from my ongoing Ha!Milton live tour. 'The affected shows are in Leeds, Coventry, Basingstoke, Sterts, Launceston, Durham, Hexham, Ilkley, Wakefield, Lichfield, Tunbridge Wells, Portsmouth, and Lyme Regis which were all due to take place this summer. 'This difficult decision comes following a recent diagnosis of treatable prostate cancer. I'll be undergoing surgery soon and will need time afterwards to fully recover. 'In addition, the Summer dates in Colchester, Bridlington, Stroud, and London will be rescheduled to the Autumn. 'All dates currently scheduled for the Autumn leg of the tour remain unaffected. Ticket holders for the cancelled shows will be contacted directly by the venue box office. 'Thanks for your support and respecting my privacy during this time. This decision has not been taken lightly. Trust me. 'Abnormal service will resume as soon as possible and I'm looking forward to being back out on the road again soon - though probably not on a bike! Despite undergoing chemotherapy, the seven-time Olympic medalist was told he had only two to four years to live after making the prognosis public last October. Milton's career skyrocketed after he won the coveted Perrier Award at the Festival in 1996. Nowadays, he is renowned for his one-liners on BBC Two's Mock The Week. WHAT IS PROSTATE CANCER? How many people does it kill? More than 11,800 men a year - or one every 45 minutes - are killed by the disease in Britain, compared with about 11,400 women dying of breast cancer. It means prostate cancer is behind only lung and bowel in terms of how many people it kills in Britain. In the US, the disease kills 26,000 men each year. Despite this, it receives less than half the research funding of breast cancer and treatments for the disease are trailing at least a decade behind. How many men are diagnosed annually? Every year, upwards of 52,300 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the UK - more than 140 every day. How quickly does it develop? Prostate cancer usually develops slowly, so there may be no signs someone has it for many years, according to the NHS. If the cancer is at an early stage and not causing symptoms, a policy of 'watchful waiting' or 'active surveillance' may be adopted. Some patients can be cured if the disease is treated in the early stages. But if it is diagnosed at a later stage, when it has spread, then it becomes terminal and treatment revolves around relieving symptoms. Thousands of men are put off seeking a diagnosis because of the known side effects from treatment, including erectile dysfunction. Tests and treatment Tests for prostate cancer are haphazard, with accurate tools only just beginning to emerge. There is no national prostate screening programme as for years the tests have been too inaccurate. Doctors struggle to distinguish between aggressive and less serious tumours, making it hard to decide on treatment. Men over 50 are eligible for a 'PSA' blood test which gives doctors a rough idea of whether a patient is at risk. But it is unreliable. Patients who get a positive result are usually given a biopsy which is also not fool-proof. Scientists are unsure as to what causes prostate cancer, but age, obesity and a lack of exercise are known risks.
