Hyderabad to host AICC OBC advisory council meeting in October
Addressing the Council's ongoing session in Bengaluru on Wednesday, chaired by Karnataka Chief Minister and OBC Advisory Council Chairman Siddaramaiah, Mr. Mahesh Kumar said Telangana has emerged as a model State in implementing Backward Classes (BC) reservations in line with the vision of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Recalling the BC Declaration meeting held in Kamareddy ahead of the Assembly elections, the TPCC chief said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was the chief guest at the event, while he himself had proposed the declaration as the then TPCC working president.
He added that after the Congress came to power in Telangana, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy extended full support to the BC reservation efforts, despite belonging to an upper-caste background.
He stated that the Telangana Assembly had passed two BC-related Bills, including one providing for 42% reservations for BCs in local bodies. 'We are going to implement the reservations in the local body elections after the Governor approves the ordinance,' he said. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Konda Surekha and Vakiti Srihari were present at the meeting.

Modi's initiative sped up metro yellow line: Vijayendra
Bengaluru, Aug 10 (UNI) Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa today credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal initiative and interest for the rapid progress of the metro yellow line project, which will benefit over eight lakh residents in Bengaluru's southern districts, while accusing the Congress of trying to claim credit despite poor infrastructure under its watch. Speaking to reporters here, he said the project gathered pace when the BJP was in power in the state, adding that it is the duty of every state government to execute such works, and 'nobody can claim exclusive credit.' 'At the end of the day, people are happy,' he remarked. Vijayendra alleged that the Congress is 'always in the forefront to take credit' even as Bengaluru struggles with pothole-ridden roads. 'The inauguration of the yellow line will greatly benefit commuters, especially the IT corridor, which is very important,' he said. The long-awaited yellow line will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister later today, along with the flagging off of the Vande Bharat Express between Bengaluru and Belagavi. Vijayendra said not only Bengaluru but the entire state was eagerly awaiting Modi's visit, calling it a 'dream come true' for lakhs of residents. UNI BDN AAB

‘Hiding EC allegations?': Congress MP questions Army's Op Sindoor statement 'timing'; targets Centre
NEW DELHI: Congress MP Imran Masood on Sunday questioned the timing of remarks made by Air Chief Marshal AP Singh on Operation Sindoor , suggesting they could be aimed at diverting attention from allegations against the Election Commission. Speaking in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Masood told ANI, 'When Operation Sindoor was being discussed in the Parliament, we wanted PM Modi to share the details, but then he didn't say anything. I don't understand the timing of the statement... Is this being said to shift the narrative and hide the allegations against the Election Commission? We have complete confidence in our army. Due to their courage and bravery, we ask: despite possessing enough courage to easily take PoK, why can't they accomplish this?' — ANI (@ANI) Air Chief Marshal Singh on Saturday had revealed that India downed at least five Pakistani fighter jets and one large aircraft — potentially an ELINT or AEW&C — during Operation Sindoor, calling it 'the largest ever recorded surface-to-air kill that we can talk about'. He detailed multiple strikes on command centres, radars, and hangars in Pakistan, crediting the 'political will' of the Modi government for giving the armed forces 'full freedom to plan and execute' the mission without restrictions. The IAF chief's remarks have sparked political debate. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh questioned why Prime Minister Modi 'suddenly stopped Operation Sindoor' on the evening of May 10, alleging he had done so 'under pressure'. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This new air conditioner cools down a room in just seconds News of the Discovery Undo Pawan Khera also pressed the PM to clarify whether US President Donald Trump's ceasefire claims were untrue. The BJP, however, used Singh's comments to counter Congress's earlier claims that the government had 'tied the hands' of IAF pilots. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Air Chief Marshal's account 'debunked comprehensively' what he called a 'Pakistan-originated disinformation campaign'. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly lying and urged him to 'maintain the decorum of Parliament'. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26, targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, killing over 100 militants. India also repelled Pakistani retaliation and struck its airbases. Singh underscored that the success of the mission came from synergy between the three services and support from the political leadership, while stressing the need for indigenisation and joint capability development for future conflicts.

'Voter fraud', SIR row: Kharge to host dinner for INDIA bloc MPs; what's on agenda?
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge with INDIA bloc MPs during a briefing by Rahul Gandhi regarding his allegations of 'voter fraud' in New Delhi. (Aug 7; PTI photo) NEW DELHI: Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge will host a dinner for MPs of the INDIA bloc on Monday, as opposition parties intensify their joint push against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and alleged poll rigging, sources told news agency PTI. The gathering at the Hotel Taj Palace in Chanakyapuri will coincide with a protest march by opposition MPs from Parliament to the Election Commission 's office over what they call 'poll fraud.' The dinner comes on the heels of a rare show of unity last week, when top INDIA bloc leaders met at Rahul Gandhi 's residence and pledged to resist the electoral roll revision in Bihar and the 'vote chori model' they accuse the BJP and Election Commission of running. That meeting marked the first in-person session of the bloc's senior leaders since June 2024, shortly after the Lok Sabha elections, when they assembled at Kharge's residence. Leaders from 25 parties attended, including Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar, National Conference's Farooq Abdullah, PDP's Mehbooba Mufti, SP's Akhilesh Yadav, RJD's Tejashwi Yadav, TMC's Abhishek Banerjee, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, DMK's Tiruchi Siva and T R Baalu, CPI(M)'s M A Baby, CPI's D Raja, CPI(ML)'s Dipankar Bhattacharya and MNM chief Kamal Haasan. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your New Zealand escape starts with Singapore Airlines Fly with Singapore Airlines Book Now Undo During the meeting, Rahul Gandhi gave what the Congress described as a detailed presentation on the 'vote chori model' allegedly executed by the BJP via the Election Commission. He laid out 'the entire game' of how elections were being 'rigged,' according to the party. 'A united front against electoral manipulation! We are committed to protecting democracy and will save it from being destroyed at all costs,' the Congress later posted on X. Earlier, at a press conference, Gandhi had reiterated his charge of a 'huge criminal fraud' in elections through 'collusion' between the BJP and the Election Commission. 'The way opposition parties have been united in Parliament in national interest and have cornered the government, the same unity was visible in the meeting as well,' said Gaurav Gogoi, Congress' deputy leader in the Lok Sabha. Opposition parties have strongly opposed the ongoing SIR exercise in Bihar, warning it could result in the disenfranchisement of many voters.
