23 Global Records Set On Yoga Day In Visakhapatnam: Chandrababu Naidu

NDTV21-06-2025
Visakhapatnam:
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said in Visakhapatnam that the state set 23 global records - two Guinness Records and 21 World Book of Records - on the 11th International Yoga Day on Saturday.
Addressing media persons after performing Yoga along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Naidu said 3.03 lakh people have gathered here to perform the ancient lifestyle art, creating a world record for most people performing Yoga at a single location.
The southern state aimed to attract five lakh people for the single location record, but managed to assemble around 3.03 lakh enthusiasts.
"A total of 23 global records comprising 21 World Book of Records and two Guinness Records were created," said Naidu, elaborating on the yoga day feats.
However, the exact number of participants will be announced by the Guinness World Records authorities, he said.
Describing the 11th International Yoga Day celebration as a grand success, Mr Naidu expressed joy over 22,122 tribal students simultaneously performing 108 Surya namaskar for 108 minutes in one location, thus creating the second Guinness World Record. This feat was achieved on Friday at Andhra University.
"Today, Visakhapatnam saw two mighty oceans, with Bay of Bengal on one side, and a boundless sea of yoga practitioners on the other. I joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lakhs of citizens to celebrate International Yoga Day and mark the success of our Yogandhra campaign," said Mr Naidu in a post on X.
He thanked Prime Minister Modi for giving the opportunity to host this event and for his 'inspiring presence'.
"This historic gathering shows our commitment to health through the power of yoga. I commend every participant, organiser, and volunteer who made this record-breaking event possible. Let's keep moving forward towards a healthier and happier Andhra Pradesh with regular yoga practice," he said.
We have created history. This is a super hit, he said adding that the state government expected about two crore registrations from across the state to perform Yoga today. However, the number shot up to 2.45 crore.
He also said that 1.8 crore people are eligible to receive certificates for participating in yoga activities for one to three days.
Overjoyed by these big numbers, the CM asserted that people will not turn up unless they find something beneficial, adding that the decade-long efforts of Modi have fructified.
He noted that over 170 countries have accepted the yoga day and this ancient lifestyle art was performed in 12 lakh locations by 10 crore people globally.
In Andhra Pradesh, 26 theme-based yoga sessions were organised in the 26 districts and at 101 tourist spots, he added.
Yoga was performed in around 1.3 lakh venues across the state, and 2.17 crore people participated in them, he said. He also added that 1.46 lakh yoga trainers were identified. Offshore, naval ships also hosted yoga activities.
The Chief Minister said the NDA alliance government will bring a coffee table book and a video on yoga day to promote it locally, nationally, and internationally.
Likewise, he said the Visakhapatnam Declaration will also be brought on Yoga Day. Earlier, he said this declaration would urge people to make yoga part of their everyday life.
Similarly, he said the state government will also set up Yoga Adhyayan Parishad and called on the people of the state to set aside one hour a day for yoga.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi practices yoga, and this was the secret of his health, and he has never taken leave for the past 11 years, Chandrababu Naid said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in International Yoga Day celebrations here on Saturday at RK Beach, accompanied by N Chandrababu Naidu and others.
Moreover, the Chief Minister said the government will accord top priority to tourism and aim to set up 50,000 hotel rooms statewide.

CM Stalin writes to PM Modi; seeks urgent relief as US tariffs threaten TN exports, jobs

The Tamil Nadu government has raised an alarm over the severe implications of the United States' 25 per cent tariff on Indian exports, warning that the proposed escalation to 50 per cent could devastate the state's manufacturing sector and cost millions of jobs. In a detailed letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin highlighted that Tamil Nadu's dependence on the US market is higher as compared to other Indian states. While 20 per cent of India's total goods exports worth $433.6 billion in 2024-25 went to the US, Tamil Nadu sent 31 per cent of its $52.1 billion exports there. This heavy reliance, the Chief Minister warned, makes Tamil Nadu particularly vulnerable to tariff shocks. The most affected sectors include textiles, apparels, machinery, auto components, gems and jewellery, leather, footwear, marine products, and chemicals. All of these are labour-intensive industries where any decline in exports would swiftly translate into mass layoffs. The textile industry, which accounts for 28 per cent of India's exports in the sector and employs nearly 75 lakh people in the state, faces an especially grave threat. Officials estimate that as many as 30 lakh jobs are at immediate risk if tariffs are doubled to 50 per cent. To cushion the blow, CM Stalin urged the Centre to take urgent corrective measures. These include rectifying the GST inverted duty structure for the man-made fiber value chain by bringing it under a uniform 5 per cent GST slab, exempting import duty on all varieties of cotton, and providing collateral-free loans of up to 30 per cent under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) with a 5 per cent interest subvention and a two-year moratorium on repayment. Further demands include enhancing RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) benefits to 5 per cent and extending pre and post-shipment credit facilities to all textile exports, including yarn. Industry consultations revealed similar challenges in other sectors as well. To provide relief, CM Stalin requested the Union Government to launch a special interest subvention scheme for exporters hit by tariffs, accelerate Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) to offset market risks, and announce a financial relief package similar to the COVID-era moratorium on principal repayments. The letter also drew parallels with Brazil, which recently introduced tax deferrals and credits to support its exporters. Warning of an unprecedented crisis threatening Tamil Nadu's manufacturing sector, CM Stalin called for urgent intervention from PM Modi in consultation with ministries and industry stakeholders. He assured the Centre of Tamil Nadu's full cooperation in implementing national-level measures to safeguard livelihoods and preserve the competitiveness of Indian exports.

No friction between BJP, RSS: Ram Madhav praises PM's Independence Day address; reiterates ideological unity

RSS leader Ram Madhav has categorically asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are part of the same ideological family, and there is no friction between the two, as both organisations work in their respective fields of politics and social service. The senior RSS leader also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for recognising the 100-year history of the RSS during his Independence Day speech. When asked about certain doubts over possible 'friction' between the two organisations in an interview with ANI, Mr. Madhav dismissed any such speculation and reiterated that the two organisations are united in regards to ideology and working for the development of the country, with BJP working in politics, and RSS working outside it for social service to the nation. 'These atkale (speculations) are always put from time to time. If they don't find any issue then RSS is brought forward and said that there is friction between RSS and BJP. RSS and BJP are two organisations joined together under the same ideological umbrella,' Mr. Madhav, former National General Secretary of BJP told said in New Delhi. The RSS leader's remarks come amid Congress and other opposition parties criticising PM Modi for his address for mentioning the 100-year-old Sangh. Congress leaders have called the mention of the organisation an 'insult to the Constitution and tricolour.' There has also been speculation on a tense relation between the Sangh and the BJP with political opponents alluding to it. 'BJP works with a political angle, and RSS works outside politics, does multiple types of service for the development of the country. We are of the same ideological family so we keep in touch, and in that there have never been any tensions. There is no tension,' Mr. Madhav added. Mr. Madhav further reiterated that people from all sorts of diverse political backgrounds are welcome in the organisation, including the Congress. He however, criticised the act of opposing the RSS for 'political gains.' 'Some people, due to political reasons, have always opposed RSS, for example some Congress leaders. They opposed for political reasons but ultimately everyone knew inside them that RSS is works for the Hindu religion and the country while being away from politics. The organisation is doing the work of making good people, man-making, that everyone knows. In our lower levels of organisation, everyone from diverse backgrounds gets a chance to work,' he said. 'When I say that from all political backgrounds get a chance, that means Congress is also included in it, but some people feel that if they oppose RSS then they will benefit politically,' he added. He further mentioned how the Sangh works for building good people, doing 'man-making' in the organisation. The RSS leader also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day address, saying that the speech sent a 'very good message across the country and RSS workers.' 'With Prime Minister mentioning RSS on its 100-year anniversary, and also appreciating the work done by the organisation for the nation, and also saying that the swayamsevak be an inspiration for all, these things have been appreciated by the people of RSS after hearing them. But there are crores of other people in the country, who are not perhaps part of the organisation and watch it from outside and understand the work done, those people are also appreciated this (PM's remarks),' he added. In his Independence Day speech, PM Modi praised RSS for completing 100 years of service to the nation, describing it as the 'biggest NGO in the world' and praising its century-long contribution to nation-building. 'Today, I would like to proudly mention that 100 years ago, an organisation was born - Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). 100 years of service to the nation is a proud, golden chapter. With the resolve of 'vyakti nirman se rashtra nirman', with the aim of welfare of Maa Bharati, swayamsevaks dedicated their lives to the welfare of our a way, RSS is the biggest NGO of the world. It has a history of 100 years of dedication,' PM Modi said.

Dwarka Expressway, UER-II opening tomorrow: Noida to Delhi airport in just 20 minutes

Reaching Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport from Noida will now become much easier following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration of two major road projects: the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway on Sunday. PM Modi will inaugurate four of the five packages of UER-II along with phases three and four of the Dwarka Expressway on Sunday afternoon.(ANI) Together, these new stretches are expected to reduce travel time from Noida to IGI Airport to just 20 minutes, according to India Today. They will provide commuters from western Delhi and NCR suburbs a smoother journey and ease congestion on the city's busy Ring Road. Once completed, the projects will also help reduce traffic on inner roads, easing pressure on NH-48, NH-44, Ring Roads, and the Barapullah elevated corridor. The estimated construction cost of UER-II is ₹3,300 crore. Modi will inaugurate four of the five packages of UER-II, along with phases three and four of the Dwarka Expressway around 12.30pm on Sunday, news agency ANI reported. The ceremony will take place in Rohini, and the Prime Minister is expected to inspect both projects. 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate packages three and four of Dwarka Expressway and four packages of Urban Extension Road-II connecting Mahipalpur near IGI airport with Alipur in North Delhi, linking it with NH-44. These two roads will significantly reduce congestion in and around Delhi and NCR,' a senior NHAI official said. More details on the new packages UER-II: The 75.71 km UER-II road has been developed in five packages at a cost of ₹6,445 crore, with 54.21 km in Delhi and 21.50 km in Haryana. Once operational, it will enable residents of Gurugram, west, and south Delhi to reach NH-44, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir faster, bypassing congestion at Dhaula Kuan and Delhi's ring roads. Dwarka Expressway details: Packages 3 and 4 of the Dwarka Expressway, 10.1 km in Delhi, include a 5.1 km tunnel connecting the road to IGI Airport, improving access to Gurugram. Packages 1 and 2, covering the Haryana section (29 km between Mahipalpur and Kherki Daula on NH-48), were inaugurated by the Prime Minister in March 2024. Future connectivity: Connecting UER-II to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, starting near Akshardham temple, will provide faster routes for traffic from Haryana and Rajasthan heading towards Dehradun. Another 65 km highway from Tronica City to the under-construction FNG Expressway has been approved. This highway will link five major expressways in the NCR: Delhi-Dehradun, Delhi-Meerut, Noida-Greater Noida, DND-Faridabad, and Yamuna Expressways. Inauguration and preparations: The Dwarka Expressway tunnel has been cleaned and refurbished ahead of the inauguration. The Prime Minister is expected to inspect both projects, starting with the Dwarka Expressway and then proceeding via UER-II road towards Rohini. Sustainable construction efforts: Approximately 10 lakh metric tons of inert material recovered through biomining of legacy landfill waste in Delhi has been used in constructing UER-II, promoting sustainable infrastructure practices.
