"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" comes out later this week, marking the next installment in the MCU. But a select few already saw the movie at an exclusive Los Angeles premiere.
The good news? Those who saw the movie have come away impressed. The vast majority of social media reactions have been positive, with one person even going as far as to say it's visually " one of the best things Marvel has ever made" (h/t Brandon Davis on X).
Clearly, the choice to remove John Malkovich's Red Ghost from the movie paid off, or at least it hasn't seemed to hurt the movie. Nor has pushing this movie back multiple times to give director Matt Shakman and the rest of the crew ample time to get things right. You may like
Full disclosure: Take these reactions with a grain of salt. While some critics are throwing their opinions in the mix, it's largely influencers, superfans and those most inclined to give the movie positive buzz who are posting these early reactions. There's nothing nefarious about it, but they also don't always represent the final critical or audience consensus around the film.
So without further ado, here are some of the first reactions from the premiere of "The Fantastic Four: First Steps." 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' first reactions — 'a genre-defining classic' The Fantastic Four: First Steps | Final Trailer | Only in Theaters July 25 - YouTube Watch On
I know I just told you to temper expectations, but let's start with some potential hyperbole right out of the gate.
"#FantasticFour Quite possibly the best Marvel Studios film ever released," writer George McKay unequivocally stated on X. "Thoughtfully crafted and easily a genre-defining classic."

#FantasticFour Quite possibly the best Marvel Studios film ever released. Absolutely loaded with talent and standout performances from Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn. If you thought the MCU died with Endgame, think again. Thoughtfully crafted and easily a genre-defining classic pic.twitter.com/nU8k7c7boCJuly 19, 2025
While not quite so declarative about the movie's standing in the MCU pantheon, People Magazine writer Sharareh Drury had plenty of praise for the film.
"Stunning visuals, a moving story, witty banter and epic action," she declared. "Marvel's First Family delivers one awesome ride."
Saw #TheFantasticFour today - it's breathtaking! Stunning visuals, a moving story, witty banter and epic action. Marvel's First Family delivers one awesome ride. Pedro Pascal nails it as Mr. Fantastic. Vanessa Kirby stands out as Sue Storm - she's a shooting star. 💫July 19, 2025
Finally, let's wrap things up with my personal favorite.
Content creator and actor Matt Ramos took to X to declare the movie's characters a delight. "The cast & their chemistry hold this film up," he posted. "Pedro delivered my favorite performance as Reed."
#TheFantasticFour was AMAZING! The cast & their chemistry hold this film up. Pedro delivered my favorite performance as Reed. The score elevates every scene & is sooo prevalent. Galactus is perfectly adapted. This is a film with joy, heart, comedy & more. Solid 8/10. pic.twitter.com/LNVvL3SKHZJuly 22, 2025
And yet, for all that praise, the movie is merely a "Solid 8/10."
Something about the shift from euphoric delight to tempered praise really summed things up neatly for me. I'm hopeful Marvel truly has hit the mark, but I'm keeping my expectations in check on this one. I'd gladly settle for "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" to be a solid eight out of 10.

Meagan Good Shows Off New Tattoos Dedicated To Jonathan Majors, Social Media Chimes In

Source: Michael Buckner / Getty As if Jonathan Majors and Meagan Good being newlyweds wasn't enough proof they're locked in, they've added tattoos to the mix. Well, at least Good has, who's no stranger to new ink. The Harlem actress recently stopped by Los Angeles' 92.3 radio station to talk to the crew at The Cruz Show . That's where Good showed off her Majors-related tattoos, starting with one on her arm. 'This one is Jonathan's writing, and it says 'lover, believer, wild,'' she says while pointing to it. Then she stood and lifted her shirt to reveal the second one, just under her bra line, which reads, 'Johnny's Girl.' She acknowledges this is the first time she's mentioned it publicly. We care about your data. See our privacy policy. She proceeds to show off several others, including one dedicated to her grandfather, a lion in honor of being a Leo, and a Bible verse showing the importance of having a relationship with God. The couple only got married in March, and aside from her new ink, they've also proved they're in it for the long haul after she told Us Weekly that she's ready to start having kids with him. Majors already has a 12-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, which only makes him more confident about being a good dad to their children. 'I'm definitely ready for kids now,' she said. 'When your partner is someone you're genuinely excited to share this with, who's already showing he's a phenomenal father, it just feels right to build that life together.' Before the nuptials, the two dated for two years, and she stood by his side as he fought a case against his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, that started when he called the cops after he found her passed out in his New York City apartment. He was eventually found guilty of one count of reckless assault and harassment, for which he was sentenced to a 52-week domestic violence intervention program and probation while avoiding jail time. He lost several roles he had lined up, like Marvel Studios' Kang the Conqueror, and was uninvited from the 2023 Met Gala. His movie, Magazine Dreams , was delayed and later released in March 2025. But it's clear Majors is trying to bounce back, starting with a supportive partner. See the reactions to Good's tattoos below. ‘KPop Demon Hunters' Is Up Against Netflix's Big New Original Movie

What, just because a movie came out in June and two months later it's still #1 on Netflix, that means it can't be beaten? Well, so far, yes, that's what it means. It's only happened a few times, but when it's been knocked off the top, KPop Demon Hunters immediately recaptures #1 as it sails toward becoming what may be Netflix's most-watched original movie ever. But enter another Netflix original movie, this one starring one of summer's hottest actresses, Vanessa Kirby, and based on a best-selling book. Kirby is starring in Night Always Comes, a thriller that's a Netflix original adapting The Night Always Comes by Willy Vlautin back in 2021. Here's the synopsis: So not exactly a rom-com, then. The movie does not boast the most recognizable cast. Past Kirby, there's Jennifer Jason Leigh, Randall Park and that's kind of it. The movie is directed by Benjamin Caron, who, it turns out, actually did three episodes of Andor and 11 episodes of The Crown. Very nice! However, Night Always Comes appears to be…quite bad. The movie only has a 57% Rotten critic score and an even worse 43% audience score. This is competing with KPop Demon Hunters' 97% and 91% respectively. While Kirby had a great turn as Sue Storm in this summer's Fantastic Four over at Marvel, it appears this follow-up a few weeks later is not it. As for KPop Demon Hunters, what record shall we mention this week? Well it just got three songs inside the Billboard Top 10 list, which breaks several records across both KPop or movie soundtracks more generally. Again, every day that KPop Demon Hunters remains on top of Netflix's Top 10 list, it's extending a record run on that service. The latest news here is that the directors are now in active talks for a sequel, because of course they are. It is not impossible that Night Always Comes at least temporarily knocks KPop Demon Hunters down from #1, given that it's got a cool title, synopsis and Vanessa Kirby on the cover, but I would not put money on that. I have no idea when KPop Demon Hunters will finally, fully slide down the top 10 list here, but it's not going to be any time soon. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
