In her "Type Dangerous" music video released on Friday, June 13, the "Always Be My Baby" singer lives "a glamorous yet infallible assassin, effortlessly leaving a trail of bodies behind her," per a press release.
Carey, 56, drives luxury cars and motorcycles, struts through a casino in perfect hair and makeup and takes down villains — all while wearing high heels. Not a hair is out of place when she rides through the night or lies on the ground in a shimmering gown, surrounded by cash and poker chips.
The song and music video will make fans feel nostalgic for her earlier music, while also stirring up excitement about her first release from her upcoming 16th studio album, which marks her first in seven years.
The music video features cameos from Marlon Lundgren Garcia and MrBeast. At one point, MrBeast, 27, approaches Carey, who insists, "I don't know him," alluding to her shady meme-worthy moment of the early aughts. The internet personality then disappears in a cloud of cash.

Carey performed "Type Dangerous" live for the first time on June 9 at the 2025 BET Awards. She was joined onstage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles by Rakim and Anderson .Paak. She then sang her 2005 hit "It's Like That" to mark off an iconic performance.
That evening, Carey received the Ultimate Icon Award, which honors musicians with "decades of groundbreaking contributions to music, entertainment, advocacy, and community impact."
This also marked her first BET Award ever. "I mean, if you're gonna get one, might as well start with the Ultimate Icon Award," she joked, accepting the award and shouting out the other recipients. "But really it's incredible to be here alongside Kirk Franklin, Jamie Foxx and Snoop. I love you guys. Congratulations."
"It took me a while, but I finally realized life is far too short to live for anyone else's approval, which is something I always did," she continued. "So I decided to own who I am. My extraness, my fabulousness, my and yes, my success and my iconicness."
"I'm so grateful for you all to celebrate it with me tonight. Thank you so much."
Carey concluded her speech, "I just want to encourage everyone out there to believe in yourself. Love and respect yourself. Be a diva, be a boss, be anything you wanna be. But be iconic while you're doing it."

Here's Everything the Bay Area Won at the 2025 James Beard Awards

The James Beard Foundation (JBF) Awards took over Chicago on Monday, June 16. Restaurants and cooks across the country flocked to the Windy City to crown the new royalty of the food world. This year, the San Francisco Bay Area cleaned up, at least in respect to last year's showing. That is, Northern California punched well above its weight in the media categories, which were announced in a ceremony on Saturday, June 14. Sadly there were zero restaurant and chef finalists that made the jump onto Monday night's podium. Chefs Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski of The Anchovy Bar, The Progress, and State Bird Provisions were snubbed, one of many New York restaurants taking the win instead. Jacob Brown did not take home the gold on behalf of the Mission's Lazy Bear in the Outstanding Professional in Beverage Service category. Neither Richard Lee of Saison nor Kosuke Tada of Mijoté took home the Best Chef: California award. The final nominee Harbor House Inn lost in the Outstanding Hospitality category, too. Still, the San Francisco Chronicle 's new-ish food critic Mackenzie Chung Fegan won the JBF's Emerging Voice award. Fegan is a San Francisco-grown writer whose family owns local mainstay Henry's Hunan. Most recently, her writing caused a stir for describing the now-infamous Kellergate wherein Thomas Keller pulled her aside at his French Laundry restaurant to lecture her on his qualms with today's food media. Preeti Mistry won the Audio Programming award for their podcast Loading Dock Talks. Mistry's restaurant Juhu Beach Club was an Oakland smash hit before closing, landing the chef on an episode of Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown in 2015. Their weekly conversation-style podcast features Bay Area chefs and cooks discussing their recipes, politics, and more. 'One of the goals of empire is to dehumanize certain groups of people,' Mistry said while accepting their award. 'That means trans folks. That means Palestinians. That means undocumented immigrants. Storytelling and oral history is such a part of humanizing people.' Wine country restaurant hero Rogelio Garcia took home a win in the 'Professional and Restaurant' category for the JBF's Book Awards. His debut cookbook Convivir: Modern Mexican Cuisine in California's Wine Country, crowns his ascent through Northern California restaurants, including the now-closed SoMa restaurant Luce and his current job at Michelin star-holding Auro in Calistoga. Since 1991, the James Beard Awards — the 'Oscars of food' — have remained one of the Big Deals in the food industry. The foundation canceled its programming in 2020 and 2021 after allegations of misbehavior and abuse toward nominees, in addition to a dearth of nominated and winning Black chefs in 2020. In 2022, the organization reorganized after internal audits. Unsurprisingly, given how food moves across the planet, the James Beard Awards' speeches this year skewed toward rejecting the anti-immigrant sentiment spreading throughout the United States. Disclosure: Some Vox Media staff members are part of the voting body for the James Beard Awards. Eater is partnering with the James Beard Foundation to livestream the awards in 2025. Celine Song on How ‘Materialists' Subverts the Rom-Com With a 'Really Frank Conversation'

With its fizzy trailers, set against 'Material Girl' and a throwback voiceover, Celine Song's Materialists may seem like a classic romantic comedy, but the film, Song and the actors behind the project tease, features more drama than is typical of the upbeat genre. Indeed, as stars Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans said in the days leading up to the film's release, Materialists is more of a 'rom-com-dram.' More from The Hollywood Reporter How Celine Song's 'Materialists' Approaches New York City Wealth Box Office: 'How to Train Your Dragon' Roars to Record $84M U.S. Opening, $198M Globally Dakota Johnson Says Hollywood Is a "Mess" Because Studios Want to "Remake the Same Things" 'There is romance, there is comedy, but it's sort of a rom-com with drama,' Evans told The Hollywood Reporter at the Materialists premiere in New York earlier this month. And Song did want to pay tribute to beloved rom-coms by filmmakers like Nora Ephron and James L. Brooks. 'I feel like I'm very inspired by rom-coms because I think rom-com is a beautiful genre where we all walk in getting excited to talk about and be in love and talk about being in love and talk about relationships and everything that concerns us and I think it's an amazing opportunity,' the writer-director told THR. 'I was really interested in talking about [love] in the ways that Nora Ephron had or Jim Brooks has but for the 2025 audience.' But she cautions that moviegoers should be prepared for something they might not often see in such films. 'What I would think about the most is a really frank conversation that I think maybe would be considered impolite for the screen sometimes but is actually part of the straight talk that we do with our closest friends,' Song said of what moviegoers should expect. 'I think that's what you'll see onscreen.' Marin Ireland, who plays Johnson's onscreen boss, says the A24 film features 'more of a real-life twist' than a conventional rom-com. 'I think you might think if you've seen rom-coms in the past that you know exactly what the road looks like for the movie, once you get a few key circumstances in place. And then it definitely takes more of a real-life twist,' Ireland said. 'The twist is less like they've been dead the whole time and more like things happen in real life that are less rom-com-esque, and something like that happens. So the characters have to kind of shift gears to deal with something more real life.' Real-life matchmaker Patti Stanger attended the Materialists premiere and praised the film for its approach to her profession. 'The way that Dakota Johnson['s character] cares. Her boss was amazing — her boss kept the peace. She cared about her clients more than anybody,' Stanger said. 'I think I would hire her tomorrow. She's one of the best matchmakers I've ever seen, and I was happy Celine wrote a character like that. There are matchmakers like that — I'm like that, my partners are like that. We won't sleep unless you're happy.' And Stanger thinks rom-coms have turned more realistic to reflect the times. 'The rom-com has changed to a more serious tone because we're going through a more serious period now,' she said. 'We're not getting out of the house, whether we're 18 or 80. We're watching a lot of rom-com television, Love Island, but we're not actually physically doing it ourselves. I think men — I'm not blaming the men — men, we're old school, we want you to ask us out. We want you to introduce yourself at the bar, the restaurant, the gas station. We are not in a period where we do not want to be talked to. We feel like we make money, we have a house, you don't want to take us out, you don't want to pay for us, we want men to be men, masculine men to step up.' Materialists is currently in theaters.
