Malappuram(Kerala), Jun 3 (PTI) Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader P V Anvar, who is contesting in the Nilambur assembly bypoll, has declared assets, including both movable and immovable, of over Rs 52 crore and liabilities of Rs 20 crore in the election affidavit filed with his nomination papers on Monday.
Anvar has in his affidavit disclosed movable assets of over Rs 18 crore and immovable property worth over Rs 34 crore.
In 2021, he had declared assets worth over Rs 64 crore and liabilities of around Rs 17 crore.
According to his affidavit, his two wives have total assets, including 1.2 kgs of gold each, worth over Rs 8 crore and Rs 3 crore, respectively.
Anvar, who completed his pre-degree (class 11 and 12) education from Kozhikode University in 1985, also has liabilities of around Rs 20 crore, which includes loans of Rs 9 crore from various banks, his affidavit stated.
Besides these, he is also facing 10 criminal cases for various offences including destruction of government property, leaking phone calls of government officials, leaking official secrets, defamation and making provocative speeches aimed at inciting violence, according to his affidavit.
In none of these cases, mostly initiated between 2024 and 2025, charges have been framed against him, it said.
Anvar, whose resignation as a Left-backed independent MLA paved the way for the by-election, filed his nomination after launching a new political front — Janakiya Prathipaksha Prathirodha Munnani (JPPM) — after the Congress-led UDF declined him a spot in the front.
He, on Sunday, announced his decision to contest the bypoll, a day after he claimed he does not have the funds for it. PTI HMP HMP ADB

14-1: US vetoes UN Security Council's Gaza ceasefire resolution as crisis deepens

The United States on Wednesday cast the lone vote against a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution demanding an 'immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire' in Gaza, blocking the measure as the humanitarian crisis deepens in the war-torn draft resolution, which also called for unrestricted humanitarian aid access across Gaza, received support from the other 14 members of the council, a striking show of global consensus. But the US, wielding its veto power, halted its United States has been clear: We would not support any measure that fails to condemn Hamas and does not call for Hamas to disarm and leave Gaza," Acting US Ambassador to the UN Dorothy Shea told the council before the vote, arguing that it would also undermine US-led efforts to broker a ceasefire. The veto underscores Washington's steadfast support for Israel, its closest ally and largest military aid recipient in the Middle East, even as pressure mounts internationally to halt the Security Council vote came as Israel pushes ahead with an offensive in Gaza after ending a two-month truce in March. Gaza health authorities said Israeli strikes killed 45 people on Wednesday, while Israel said a soldier died in than 2 million people remain trapped in the densely populated strip, with famine looming and essential supplies critically low — despite Israel lifting an 11-week blockade last want peace, but peace cannot mean letting Hamas regroup and rearm,' Shea said. 'This resolution did not meet that threshold.'Israel has rejected calls for an unconditional or permanent ceasefire, saying Hamas cannot stay in Gaza. Israel's UN Ambassador Danny Danon told the council members who voted in favor of the draft: "You chose appeasement and submission. You chose a road that does not lead to peace. Only to more terror."Hamas condemned the US veto, describing it as showing "the US administration's blind bias" towards draft Security Council resolution had also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas and Reel

Don't label persons with criminal background as Hindu activist: Bhandary

Mangaluru: KPCC working president and MLC Manjunath Bhandary strongly objected to individuals with criminal backgrounds being referred to as Hindu activists. He told reporters on Wednesday, that those affiliated with right-wing organisations like the Bajrang Dal or others should be identified by their organisation name, and not as representatives of the Hindu community. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "We too are Hindus, I identify myself as a Congress functionary. It is unacceptable to misuse religion for political gain and to shield those spreading hatred," he said. He expressed dismay that individuals facing multiple criminal cases and even externment proceedings were being referred to as Hindu leaders. Referring to the recent murder of Abdul Rahiman, Bhandary highlighted the irony that Rahiman previously donated blood to the father of one of the accused. "He was called under the pretext to provide sand and was then assaulted. Isn't this betrayal? Hindu leaders must condemn such acts as they go against the core values of Hinduism and the Constitution," he said. Criticising the BJP, Bhandary said the party failed to counter the Congress on the development front, and has hence resorted to backdoor politics by sowing the seeds of communal hatred in the minds of people. "The murder of Abdul Rahiman was an outcome of such brainwashing, and those engaged in such acts should also be punished," he said. He also voiced concern that such incidents were tarnishing the image of coastal Karnataka. "Though these incidents are concentrated within a 10km radius of Mangaluru, the entire region is being unfairly portrayed. This, at a time when the govt is preparing to boost tourism and attract investments to the coast," he said. Referring to the Dakshina Kannada district police initiating the process of externment against 36 people, he said that one must note that a majority belong to two taluks. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Bhandary said that the KPCC fact-finding committee comprising MP Syed Naseer Hussain, MLA NA Haris, MLC Manjunath Bhandary, AICC secretary Roji M John, KPCC vice-president VR Sudarshan, former minister Kimmane Ratnakar, and former MP K Jayaprakash Hegde will tour the coastal districts from Thursday. The team will study the socio-political atmosphere and meet senior Congress leaders, the deputy commissioner, police commissioner, SP, business figures, religious leaders, labour unions, intellectuals, artists, and civil society members. They will also visit affected areas and meet families of victims before submitting a report.

Andhra Pradesh government to distribute induction stoves to 11,400 Anganwadi centres from today

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh will begin distributing energy-efficient induction cooktops and compatible utensils to 11,400 across the state on Thursday, 5 June, marking World Environment Day. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Plans are underway to extend this initiative to all 55,607 AWCs under the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP). The switch to induction stoves is expected to reduce recurring LPG costs, with annual savings estimated at around Rs 25 crore. It is also projected to prevent approximately 28,327 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. The NECP was formally launched a few months ago in Andhra Pradesh by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the presence of Union minister for housing, power, and urban development, Manohar Lal Khattar. The distribution of stoves and utensils will commence on Thursday. Led by the AP dept of women and child welfare, the initiative aligns with the Union govt's 'Go Electric' campaign and the NECP, championed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The large-scale distribution programme will be inaugurated by minister for women, child welfare, and tribal welfare, G Sandhya Rani, alongside public representatives in Vijayawada on Thursday. They will oversee the distribution of energy-efficient induction cooktops and compatible utensils to Anganwadi centres. Minister Sandhya Rani, secretary (department of women and child welfare) Surya Kumari, and director M Venu Gopal Reddy expressed gratitude to chief minister Naidu and Union minister Khattar for their continued guidance. They also acknowledged the contributions of chief secretary K Vijayanand, BEE, EESL, and other state designated agencies for their collaborative efforts. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Anil Malik, secretary of the Union ministry of women and child development, praised Andhra Pradesh's efforts at a national conference held in Udaipur, Rajasthan. "Having studied best practices from 12 major states, the partnership between AP govt and EESL serves as a national role model for implementing the NECP on a saturation basis. The women and child welfare department of the AP govt has taken the lead in eliminating fossil fuels from cooking at AWCs. All other states will have to follow suit sooner or later," said Malik. EESL CEO Shri Vishal Kapoor, along with top officials including CGM Shri Animesh Mishra, is currently monitoring and overseeing implementation. Meanwhile, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency has assured full support for scaling and replicating Andhra Pradesh's clean cooking model across the country and encourages other states to adopt similar sustainable initiatives for long-term impact.
