TMC''s P V Anvar declares assets worth over Rs 52 crore in election affidavit

Malappuram(Kerala), Jun 3 (PTI) Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader P V Anvar, who is contesting in the Nilambur assembly bypoll, has declared assets, including both movable and immovable, of over Rs 52 crore and liabilities of Rs 20 crore in the election affidavit filed with his nomination papers on Monday.
Anvar has in his affidavit disclosed movable assets of over Rs 18 crore and immovable property worth over Rs 34 crore.
In 2021, he had declared assets worth over Rs 64 crore and liabilities of around Rs 17 crore.
According to his affidavit, his two wives have total assets, including 1.2 kgs of gold each, worth over Rs 8 crore and Rs 3 crore, respectively.
Anvar, who completed his pre-degree (class 11 and 12) education from Kozhikode University in 1985, also has liabilities of around Rs 20 crore, which includes loans of Rs 9 crore from various banks, his affidavit stated.
Besides these, he is also facing 10 criminal cases for various offences including destruction of government property, leaking phone calls of government officials, leaking official secrets, defamation and making provocative speeches aimed at inciting violence, according to his affidavit.
In none of these cases, mostly initiated between 2024 and 2025, charges have been framed against him, it said.
Anvar, whose resignation as a Left-backed independent MLA paved the way for the by-election, filed his nomination after launching a new political front — Janakiya Prathipaksha Prathirodha Munnani (JPPM) — after the Congress-led UDF declined him a spot in the front.
He, on Sunday, announced his decision to contest the bypoll, a day after he claimed he does not have the funds for it. PTI HMP HMP ADB

Don't label persons with criminal background as Hindu activist: Bhandary
Mangaluru: KPCC working president and MLC Manjunath Bhandary strongly objected to individuals with criminal backgrounds being referred to as Hindu activists. He told reporters on Wednesday, that those affiliated with right-wing organisations like the Bajrang Dal or others should be identified by their organisation name, and not as representatives of the Hindu community. It is unacceptable to misuse religion for political gain and to shield those spreading hatred," he said. He expressed dismay that individuals facing multiple criminal cases and even externment proceedings were being referred to as Hindu leaders. Referring to the recent murder of Abdul Rahiman, Bhandary highlighted the irony that Rahiman previously donated blood to the father of one of the accused. Andhra Pradesh government to distribute induction stoves to 11,400 Anganwadi centres from today
Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh will begin distributing energy-efficient induction cooktops and compatible utensils to 11,400 across the state on Thursday, 5 June, marking World Environment Day. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Plans are underway to extend this initiative to all 55,607 AWCs under the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP). The switch to induction stoves is expected to reduce recurring LPG costs, with annual savings estimated at around Rs 25 crore. It is also projected to prevent approximately 28,327 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. The NECP was formally launched a few months ago in Andhra Pradesh by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the presence of Union minister for housing, power, and urban development, Manohar Lal Khattar. The distribution of stoves and utensils will commence on Thursday. Led by the AP dept of women and child welfare, the initiative aligns with the Union govt's 'Go Electric' campaign and the NECP, championed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The large-scale distribution programme will be inaugurated by minister for women, child welfare, and tribal welfare, G Sandhya Rani, alongside public representatives in Vijayawada on Thursday. They will oversee the distribution of energy-efficient induction cooktops and compatible utensils to Anganwadi centres. Minister Sandhya Rani, secretary (department of women and child welfare) Surya Kumari, and director M Venu Gopal Reddy expressed gratitude to chief minister Naidu and Union minister Khattar for their continued guidance. They also acknowledged the contributions of chief secretary K Vijayanand, BEE, EESL, and other state designated agencies for their collaborative efforts. The women and child welfare department of the AP govt has taken the lead in eliminating fossil fuels from cooking at AWCs. All other states will have to follow suit sooner or later," said Malik. Meanwhile, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency has assured full support for scaling and replicating Andhra Pradesh's clean cooking model across the country and encourages other states to adopt similar sustainable initiatives for long-term impact.
