Who is Big Manny? Meet the TikTok sensation starring in BBC's Horrible Histories spin-off

The Biomedical Science graduate boasts over three million followers on social media
TikTok star Big Manny is putting his skills to the test in BBC's new series, brought to life by the team behind Horrible Histories.
Horrible Science premiered on CBBC on May 9, with the entire boxset available to stream on iPlayer. Like Horrible Histories, the new comedy show makes learning accessible for children through fast-paced sketches, all related to scientific topics.

Five of the fifteen episodes even feature themes that are on primary school curriculums, including outer space, motion, light and electricity.

Among its reoccurring cast, the show also has guest appearances from First Dates star Fred Sirieix and social media scientist Big Manny.
While viewers will be acquainted with Fred, this may be their first time seeing Manny on the big screen. Below, we delve into the viral sensation's life off screen.
Why is Big Manny famous?
Big Manny's real name is Emanuel Wallace, however he uses the moniker on his social media platforms. The BBC star started posting educational science videos on TikTok in 2021, when the COVID-19 lockdown had forced children into remote learning.
Having just graduated with a Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences, from the University of East London, Manny began working as a science technician in a secondary school. His stint at the school sparked the idea to start sharing videos online.
"I could see first-hand that students were struggling in science because of the lockdown," the Londoner told Chemistry World in 2023.

Four years on from his first post, he now boasts two million followers on TikTok and an additional 1.6 million on Instagram. His accolades don't stop there, Manny was recently honoured with the Education Creator of the Year award, at the inaugural TikTok Awards in December 2024.
The content creator appeals to young audiences by using colloquial London slang to explain complex scientific theories. Ultimately, he aims to demonstrate to young people that anyone can pursue a career in the science field, regardless of their background.

He opened up about the motivation behind his content to The Voice in 2024, saying: "So what I am trying to do with my platform is show young people that there are scientists out there that look like you, talk like you, dress like you, come from the same background as you.
"So if they can become a scientist then there is no reason why you can't as well."

Back in January, Manny shocked his followers with a royal guest star. During a visit to Nature Metrics, a research group that studies environmental DNA, Prince William joined the scientist for an experiment.
The royal described himself as "Manny's beautiful assistant," before showcasing a step-by-step guide on how to extract DNA from a strawberry. The short 48-second clip garnered over six million views on TikTok, and sent fans wild.

And our Two Doors Down photos show Joy sporting a large prop bulge underneath her maroon top as she meets up again with Grado, who is wearing a tracksuit and trainers. A telly insider said: 'Bosses were desperate to keep Michelle and Alan's baby joy under wraps but the cat's out of the bag now. 'The last series had left viewers on the edge of their seats after Alan popped the question in Vegas.' It was feared we'd seen the last of the Latimer Crescent crew when the show's co-creator Simon Carlyle died in August 2023, aged 48. But we exclusively revealed in March that fellow writer Gregor Sharp, 54, had penned a one-off episode. The BBC was asked for comment. Elsewhere on location, Elaine C. Smith - who plays foul-mouthed Christine - arrived in sandals, black trousers, white jumper and dark shades. Arabella Weir and Alex Norton were all smiles as they bring back put-upon neighbours Beth and Eric. Grado was seen beaming as he greeted locals and posed for photos with some fans of the award-winning series. Meanwhile, Doon Mackichan reprises her role as permanently sozzled neighbour Cathy. Gregor Sharp, who has written the new Christmas special, said: 'It's really exciting to be revisiting Latimer Crescent with all the regular cast for this new episode. "Christmas is a time for getting together with friends and family and then becoming low-level irritated by them, so it feels like they're the perfect group to celebrate the season with.' BBC director of comedy, Jon Petrie, added: 'There's something comforting about having the neighbours round for Christmas, even if they bring minor chaos." 7 Much-loved Two Doors Down creator Simon Carlyle tragically passed away 7 A Two Doors Down Christmas spoiler has been leaked revealing a major plot twist Credit: BBC

Christine McGuinness says 'it's my fault' and reveals surprising truth behind Paddy split

Christine McGuinness opened emotionally opened up about her split from ex-husband Paddy in tonight's episode of Celebs Go Dating and she revealed 'the trust was broken' It was an emotional night for Christine McGuinness tonight in the Celebs Go Dating Agency, as she opened up to experts Anna Williamson and Paul C Brunson on her split from ex-husband Paddy McGuiness. ‌ Paddy and Christine announced their separation in 2022 after 11 years of marriage, although the couple weren't open about what lead to their divorce. Now, Christine has revealed she decided "enough was enough". ‌ The mother of three revealed the "trust was broken" with Paddy, as she spoke about carrying feelings of it being 'her fault' after being the one to call it quits. ‌ Heading for a chat with the agents after a difficult mixer in the first episode, Christine opened up about her feelings on dating and upsetting people - which lead to a chat about her recent divorce. Digging deeper into her past, Anna asked the star: "What happened around the break up and who initiated it?" ‌ Revealing Paddy had 'made mistakes' in the marriage, Christine said: "Anyone can make mistakes but I think the trust was broken," she explained. "I'll always love him, he's the father of my children and I think he's the only man that I'll ever love. "A lot of people make mistakes and mess up, and when you're in a couple who is quite well known in the industry, obviously then everyone knows your business. He was getting a really, really difficult time in the press," she continued - although she didn't expand on the 'mistakes' Paddy had made. ‌ To clarify, celebrity dating agent Anna asked: "Because of that?" "Yeah, and I didn't like that," Christine responded. "It was a lot for him and I just really wanted it to stop. So it was me that said 'enough is enough.'" Opening up about her guilt, Christine continued: "So, in some ways I suppose I still carry that feeling of, 'Well it's my fault because I ended it,'" as Paul looked on in shock. ‌ Speaking about their relationship to the cameras, Christine said: "We had an amazing 15 years, we really did. The last couple of years, things just weren't quite the same. I think once the respect isn't quite there anymore, it's time to leave." She then later told the agents that deciding to leave Paddy was the hardest decision she's ever had to make in her life, "and it forever will be". In 2022, the pair announced their separation in a joint Instagram story, which read: "We hadn't planned on sharing this publicly until we were ready but the lack of privacy surrounding our personal life, we feel left with no other option but to clarify. ‌ "A while ago we took the difficult decision to separate but our main focus was as always is to continue loving and supporting our children. "This was not an easy decision to make but we're moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children. "We'll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together. We hope this now draws a line under anymore unwanted and unnecessary intrusion into our private life. "Although we work in the public eye we ask kindly if you could respect our wishes for privacy on this matter. We'll be making no further comment."

Ashley Roberts flashes her sunburnt bottom as she admits she 'never learns' during sun-soaked Turkey holiday

flashed her sunburnt bottom in a cheeky Instagram video on Tuesday as she enjoyed a sun-soaked getaway in Turkey. The former Pussycat Doll singer, admitted she 'never learns' as she missed to put on enough sunscreen while soaking up the sun at the beach. Ashley shared a mirror video on her Stories wearing a skimpy blue bikini as she turned displaying her red bottom. The radio presenter joked she is ' Too hot to handle?!' as she moved her bikini bottoms revealing the burn and flashing her lower back tattoo. She said: 'Day one and I never learn, ouch!' Earlier in the day, Ashley cooled off from the sun as she paddled in the ocean while staying at the 4-star Yazz Collective hotel. It comes after Ashley opened up to the Mail's The Life of Bryony Podcast about other aspects of the devastating toll her time in the music industry had on her. She told Mail columnist Bryony Gordon how being forced to give up dancing - and discovering breathwork - pulled her back from the brink of a mental breakdown. The performer was only 22 years old when she joined The Pussycat Dolls in 2003, eventually moving to London from Los Angeles after their split in 2010. Ashley's new book transforms the hard-won lessons from her difficult past into practical techniques for improving mental and physical health. 'My body was literally shutting down', Ashley told the podcast. 'The Dolls were in London doing a show. I was sat in my hotel room and all of a sudden, I had this extreme headache. 'The pain was unreal. I also felt really sick. We were supposed to do a show in Germany the next day, so I called my manager - who told me to go to the hospital. 'The doctors thought I'd had a brain aneurysm. When I went to have an MRI, my knee locked up and that was viral arthritis entering my body. 'My mentality at the time was all about making it to the next show – but that was the moment I remember thinking, "What's going on here? I need to take a second because this isn't cool".' Ashley revealed how the cutthroat music industry had instilled a toxic work ethic that was destroying her health. 'The early 2000s was a whole different era honey', the performer told Bryony. 'No one ever spoke about mental health or the importance of checking in. 'I am grateful there has been a shift – people cancelling shows now when they need to look after themselves. 'I felt I was weak. It was instilled in us from a young age that we were interchangeable. 'There was a pressure of like, if you don't show up, who knows what might happen? 'I grew up in the dance world and there is still an attitude of – if you break your toe, you need to keep going. Your mind is programmed to think: the show must go on. It comes after Ashley opened up to the Mail's The Life of Bryony Podcast (pictured) about other aspects of the devastating toll her time in the music industry had on her 'In the end, I had to take some time off. It was a viral infection with extreme side effects – what was probably a manifestation of being so rundown.' Following The Pussycat Dolls' split in 2010, Ashley began building her career in the UK, finishing as runner-up on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2012. After making the move to London permanent, the Heart Radio presenter told Bryony how feeling 'spiritually lost' in her new home led her to discover breathwork - her second great love after music. 'After the Dolls, I stopped dancing completely', Ashley said. 'Being in a pop group for so long, I just shut all that down and wanted to go in a different direction.' It was then she found breathwork: 'It created this sense of calm that I can't explain. 'I always felt this chaos internally and suddenly, for a few moments, it felt like I wasn't battling it anymore. 'I didn't quite realise how then how great a tool it would be in helping me process life. 'When my dad died, that ability to reflect gave me the motivation to stay strong – and I want to share that.'
