CM flags off trial run of Mumbai Metro Line 9 from Dahisar to Kashigaon
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Wednesday flagged off the trial run and technical inspection of Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro Line 9 between Dahisar East and Kashigaon. This Red Line 9 corridor is part of a larger initiative to connect Mira-Bhayander with the rest of Mumbai through efficient Metro connectivity.
Along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Fadnavis also inspected the newly built elevated road.
The 13.5-kilometre Metro Line 9 is being constructed in two phases by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and the Phase 1 section covers four stations–Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon.
The Metro-9 corridor is expected to ease traffic near Dahisar Toll Naka, cut vehicular emissions and encourage green commuting through eco-friendly construction and energy-efficient systems like regenerative braking.
'The technical testing of the Maha Mumbai Metro Line 9 was conducted today. This line will be extremely helpful for the people of Mira Bhayandar as well as those who go to Mumbai for work. Our goal is to provide smooth connectivity throughout the region,' said Fadnavis after the inspection.
He also pointed out that it was a 'first-of-its-kind' innovation within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). 'For the first time in the MMR, a double-decker bridge has been built, carrying both Metro and a flyover on one pillar. This structural innovation will cut down traffic congestion greatly,' he added.
Red Line 9 is an extension of Metro Line 7–Andheri East to Dahisar East–and once operational, will be connected with Metro Line 2A–Dahisar to D N Nagar, thus providing a direct Metro connectivity from Mira-Bhayandar to Andheri. The second phase will connect the service to Bhayandar West, ending at the Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium station.
According to MMRDA officials, trial runs will continue in the weeks ahead with a detailed technical review to be carried out over this period before opening the phase for the public. Safety systems, signalling, performance of rolling stocks, and other operational parameters would be tested intensively before making the route operational.
Even though the line was originally to be commissioned fully by October 2024, construction delays have pushed the schedule. However, CM Fadnavis mentioned that the state is now accelerating work on all Metro projects. 'We are targeting finishing all the work related to Metro in MMR by 2027,' he said.
Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA said, 'The Metro Line 9 is not just a new corridor — it is a strategic connector that integrates Mira-Bhayandar with the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region. With seamless interchanges to key Metro lines including Line 2A, Line 7, Line 1, and the upcoming Lines 10 and 13, this corridor creates a continuous, end-to-end travel experience from Mira-Bhayandar to Andheri, Ghatkopar, Thane, and even Vasai-Virar.'

Maharashtra installed more solar pumps in two years than rest of country collectively: CM Devendra Fadnavis
Pune: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said Maharashtra has outpaced the rest of the country in the installation of solar-powered agriculture pumps. Speaking to reporters at the inauguration of Maha Urja's new administrative building in Aundh, Fadnavis said the state installed five lakh solar pumps for farmers over the past two years, compared to four lakh installed across the rest of India in the same period. Fadnavis highlighted the state's progress in conventional and non-conventional energy initiatives and said that Maharashtra is on track to become a leader in solar energy. Under the 'Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana', state govt is in the process of shifting 1,600 megawatt (mW) of agricultural feeders to solar energy, a project expected to be completed by 2026. "This will be Asia's largest solar project through distribution once completed," Fadnavis said. The CM said state govt is working towards converting all major administrative buildings of govt to solar power by Dec 2025. Earlier this year, Central govt also issued guidelines to all states to electrify administrative buildings through solar energy before Dec 2025 under the 'PM Suryaghar-Free Electricity Scheme'. The building inaugurated by Fadnavis in Aundh also fulfils norms for recognition as a green building. CM said that the infrastructure of the building generates energy it requires, and it is one of the best examples of green buildings. Responding to media reports and criticism about diversion of funds for the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Scheme, Fadnavis said fund diversion can only be alleged when money allocated for one department or purpose is used for another. "If the funds are sanctioned for a specific department and the expenditure is shown under the same department, it cannot be termed as fund diversion," he said. He further explained that as per govt financial procedures, it is mandatory to reflect budgetary expenditure under the head for which the funds are originally allotted. Fadnavis said deputy CM Ajit Pawar, who also heads the finance ministry, mentioned in his budget speech that more funds were being allocated for schemes related to SC and ST communities compared to the usual allocation, and he also mentioned for what purpose the additional funds will be used. CM takes dig at Rahul Gandhi Speaking about his own article — that was written as a response to an article by Rahul Gandhi's allegations against the Election Commission of India regarding the 2024 assembly elections — Fadnavis said, "I have responded to an article with another article, backed by facts and figures. I hope Rahul Gandhi will now stop making such statements." He further took a dig at the Congress leader using a popular phrase to claim that the latter has been repeating the same mistake all his life — "Dhul chehre par thi, aur woh aaina saaf karte rahe hai (The dust was on his face, but he kept cleaning the mirror)."

Metro project will be built underground: Minister
1 2 Bhubaneswar: Works minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Sunday announced major infrastructural developments in capital city, including plans for a mega Odisha Mandapam, a 10,000-seater convention centre, and a significant modification to the Metro rail project, which will now be constructed underground instead of the previously planned elevated route. Speaking on the sidelines of a national seminar on 'Recent Advances in Iconic Building Projects', jointly organised by the public works department and the Indian Building Congress (IBC), the minister also announced plans to build disaster-resilient buildings across the state. "The site for the mega convention centre has been identified in Chandrasekharpur, with the initial feasibility study already completed," Harichandan said. Regarding the Metro project modification, he added, "An elevated Metro is not feasible for Bhubaneswar, which prompted us to reconsider its design and opt for an underground concept similar to other Indian cities." The national seminar brought together experts and policymakers from across India to discuss sustainable construction practices. Bijay Chandra Tripathy, chairman of the Odisha chapter of IBC, said that the seminar's outcomes would be submitted to the govt for consideration, adding that they would 'collaborate with the state govt in achieving sustainable construction practices'. Marking a significant milestone, the seminar is the first national-level IBC event in Bhubaneswar in two decades. Manoranjan Mishra, former engineer in-chief of the works department and IBC council member, emphasised that the event explored innovative solutions for future infrastructure development. P K Parhi, vice-chairman of IBC's Odisha chapter, noted the overwhelming response from various sectors, including govt bodies, planning authorities, and academic institutions. "After so long, the city has witnessed the national seminar of IBC. It will be important since Bhubaneswar is currently making strides in infrastructure development," he said.

Indore Metro begins commercial operation
Indore Metro commenced commercial operations on Sunday, marking a transformative step in the city's urban transportation landscape. While the initial hours saw a relatively low passenger turnout, riders steadily increased by noon, Metro officials reported and said despite the introduction of fares, public enthusiasm remained strong, with expectations of further growth in commuter numbers by evening. Currently, Indore Metro lacks an automated ticketing system, requiring manual compilation of ticket sales and passenger data. Authorities are working toward implementing a streamlined digital system, but for now, ticketing operations continue to be handled manually. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the first phase of the Indore Metro project on May 31, 2025, via video link from Bhopal. The launch coincided with the 300th birth anniversary celebrations of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar – the revered ruler of Malwa, where the Prime Minister addressed the 'Women Empowerment Mega Conference". During his speech, PM Modi highlighted Indore's global reputation for cleanliness and expressed confidence that the city would now also be recognized for its metro connectivity. The metro's initial operational plan included 50 trips per day, metro authorities said. However, due to the overwhelming response to free travel during the launch phase, the number of daily trips exceeded 100. Starting Monday, the metro service will revert to its original schedule of 50 trips per day. The fare structure has been set at concessional rates, with passengers paying a minimum of five rupees for short distances and eight rupees for a seven-kilometer journey. Promotional discounts will be in effect for the first three months, with fares gradually increasing to standard rates. Officials are now focusing on the upcoming 17-km trial run, which will extend the metro service from Gandhi Nagar to Radisson Hotel Square. This expansion is expected to significantly boost regular ridership, particularly among employees and students from major institutions such as TCS and Infosys, whose campuses are located along the route. Currently, the Metro operates within a seven-km stretch, primarily covering commercial zones. However, as the network expands, its impact on urban mobility and connectivity will become more pronounced, offering residents a modern and efficient transit system. The broader metro network, once fully operational, is expected to cover 31.32 km with 28 stations, further enhancing Indore's public transportation infrastructure.
