Manny Pacquiao aims to break own record in $3m world title fight
Manny Pacquiao is only returning to boxing for the money.
But the veteran trainer goes even further, saying the whole promotion of his showdown with Mario Barrios this weekend is skewed in Pacquiao's favour so the Filipino icon can retire as one of the greats.
'I don't know why he's coming back – well I guess I've heard … money – but he's just putting himself out there to retire forever,' Mayweather told Code Sports ahead of Pacquiao's WBC welterweight world title fight with Barrios in Las Vegas this weekend.
'This is all set up, it's for him to win.
'He's making the most money. And Barrios is a young fighter that still has a long time left in the sport and can still become a world champion again.

'This is basically one last shot for Manny.'
Pacquiao is a modern boxing great and fought in one of the biggest bouts in the sport's history against Floyd Mayweather.
But he's 46 now and hasn't fought in four years.
He hasn't even won a fight in six years.
Tim Tszyu, who fights Sebastian Fundora in the co-main event, is tipping Barrios to win.
'Age isn't just a number in boxing,' he told Code Sports. 'Even though Manny Pacquiao is Manny Pacquiao, it's a big ask.
'He's a legend and he's cemented his legacy, but he's going in with a young, hungry lion.'
He's the only eight division world champion in boxing history, but Pacquiao is a $3.10 underdog against the all action champion Barrios, and if he wins he'll set a new world record as the oldest titleholder in welterweight history.

He already holds that record, set when he scored a split decision win over Keith Thurman in July 2019.
The idea that Pacquiao – as great as he is – is allowed to come out of retirement and immediately land a world title shot, has rubbed many boxing people the wrong way.
'It seems unfair to me how this was done,' Mayweather said. 'Manny hasn't fought in four years, yet he gets an immediate title shot.
'That's not right.
'You have fighters that are in that weight class, and ranked one, two, three and four.
'But this man came from retirement and took all that thunder.
'Anyone who was next in line didn't get their shot.'
Pacquiao's Australian trainer, Justin Fortune confirms Mayweather's claims about the mega payday Pacquiao stands to make.
And the Los Angeles-based trainer, and former heavyweight contender, says Pacquiao may continue fighting after this weekend.

'If they offered you a lot of money, you'd fight too,' Fortune told Code Sports after Pacquiao fronted a huge press conference at the MGM Grand on Thursday.
Fortune says it's not just Pacquiao cashing in, but Barrios too. And anyone else who fights him.
'The offers will come, and they'll come from a lot of fighters – they all want the payday,' he said. 'It's called prize fighting for a reason.
'You're there for the money, and right now, Pacquiao's the money.
'I would imagine (he'll keep fighting) but we just need to get through this bloke first.
'Manny's had a good camp, he's listened and he's done his stuff. He's listened to his body, he's fast, strong and he's happy.'

WNBA players voice concern at alarming sex toy issue during games
The WNBA has a rather bizarre and alarming problem on its hands and the players have had enough. Fans have decided that the new trend at games involves launching fluro green sex toys onto the court in the middle of the action. Yes you read that correctly. Three times now over the past week a WNBA game has been brought to a halt because a sex toy has been launched from the stands. It all began during a game on July 30 between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries, in the dying stages of the contest in Atlanta. With the scores tied up and little under a minute on the clock, the object came flying onto the court, narrowly avoiding the players. The bright green sex toy slid into the front row as security stepped in and ultimately arrested one fan who was charged with disorderly conduct, public indecency/indecent exposure and criminal trespass. Three days later it happened again. This time it was the Valkyries going up against the Chicago Sky in Chicago. In the middle of the third quarter the game was halted by the referees after another bright green sex toy was thrown just under the basket. In the wake of the second strike, Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham took to X to plead with fans to stop the bizarre act. 'Stop throwing dildos on the court … you're going to hurt one of us,' she wrote. That advice didn't register however as Cunningham found herself on the receiving end of the third sex toy strike. Following a free throw from LA Sparks' Kelsey Plum on Tuesday, an object came flying into the key and appeared to strike the Fever star. Cunningham took to social media following the contest. 'No way that thing actually hit me,' she posted on Instagram. 'I knew I shouldn't have tweeted that.' At the same time in Brooklyn, a fourth sex toy was thrown but it failed to reach the court, instead hitting another fan in the front rows. The worrying situation has sent social media into a frenzy with clips and memes flooding timelines. Despite the league beefing up security and one arrest being made, the viral trend doesn't appear like it will be stopped anytime soon. Players however have had enough and want more action to be taken with New York Liberty star Isabelle Harrison unloading. 'ARENA SECURITY?! Hello??! Please do better. It's not funny. never was funny,' Harrison posted. 'Throwing ANYTHING on the court is so dangerous.' LA Sparks coach Lynne Roberts condemned the fan behaviour. 'It's ridiculous. It's dumb. It's stupid,' she said. 'It's also dangerous, and you know, player safety is No. 1, respecting the game, all those things. 'I think it's really stupid.' It isn't just the players who are fed up with fans left voicing their displeasure at the alarming trend and calling on the league to do more. CBS Sports' Ashley Nicole Moss wrote on X: 'This dildo situation at these WNBA games is insane … I can't even believe I'm even tweeting this. it's not even funny anymore.' The WNBA and law enforcement are not taking this alarming trend lightly with the league noting a minimum one-year ban would be dished out along with police charges. 'The safety and wellbeing of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans,' the WNBA said in a statement. 'In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.'

US Open prize money increases to nearly $US85 million
Prize money at the US Open will rise to nearly $US85 million ($130 million) across all competitions this year, including a record $US5 million each to the women's and men's singles champions, and total player compensation is jumping 20 per cent to $US90 million — the most in tennis history. The US Tennis Association announced the payouts for the year's final grand slam tournament, which begins with the new mixed doubles event and its $US1 million top cheque on August 19-20, local time. Singles competition starts on a Sunday for the first time — August 24 — as those brackets expand from 14 days to 15. The increases at Flushing Meadows — where last year's total compensation was $US75 million — come as the sport's leading players have been in discussions with each of the four major tournaments in a bid to receive a higher percentage of revenues at the US Open, Wimbledon, French Open and Australian Open. Novak Djokovic, Coco Gauff and 2024 US Open champions Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner were among 20 players who signed a letter sent to the heads of the four grand slam events in March seeking more prize money and a greater say in what they called "decisions that directly impact us". Since then, some players have held talks with the majors. The previous high amount for a US Open singles championship was $US3.85 million in 2019, before decreasing during the COVID-19 pandemic. This year's $US5 million cheque represents a 39 per cent hike from last year's $US3.6 million. The same percentage increase was applied to the singles runners-up, who will pocket $US2.5 million. Semifinalists will earn $US1.26 million, a 26 per cent rise. In New York, the winning teams in women's and men's doubles will receive $US1 million, a new high for those events at the US Open, where total prizes for qualifying are going up to $US8 million, a 10 per cent increase. The $US85 million in 2025 US Open prize money includes singles, doubles, qualifying and wheelchair events. Wednesday's news comes after the USTA said in May that its main arena, Arthur Ashe Stadium, would be overhauled as part of an $US800 million project touted as the "largest single investment" in US Open history.
