Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Angela Scanlon admits she found one dance particularly more challenging than the others, and "hated" doing it. The 41-year-old was partnered with professional dancer Carlos Gu in BBC's 2023 series, and together they made it through to week 10.
Reflecting on her Samba routine to Jennifer Lopez's hit Ain't It Funny, Angela confessed: "It was a tragic week for me, it actually was one of my favourite dances in the end.
"No actually I hated it, it was really traumatic, but I realised that loads of people have praised me on that dance and now I'm like, 'yeah I loved it too', like no I didn't, I f*****g hated it, but it was J Lo and it was like on the edge of a fountain, like a senorita, so it was full sexy."
On the Late To The Party with Grace Campbell podcast, she continued: "It was [the] fear of being really like sexual, then Carlos would sit on the end of a chair and be like, 'So we're going to teach you how to be a sl***y lady', it was excruciating for me to like step into that."
Recalling the intense emotions she faced leading up to the live show, Angela admitted she had to "mentally push through" and managed to do so by channelling her inner Jennifer.
After taking to the dance floor to perform, the mother-of-two and Carlos were awarded 27 out of 40 points for their efforts.
Angela received her highest score of 38 during Blackpool week, when she danced an Argentine Tango to Amy Winehouse's Back To Black.
At the time, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke all reached for their 10 panels, while Craig Revel Horwood gave her an eight.
However, just a week after this high point, the Irish beauty's journey ended when she performed a Cha Cha.
This meant that she missed out on a spot in the quarter finals, after a dance-off with Layton Williams.
The 2023 series was won by former Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola, followed by Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell last year.
The BBC will soon start announcing the line-up of brave celebrities who are hoping to win the Glitterball trophy this year. Rumoured names so far include; Helen Flanagan, Tom Parker Bowles, Sir Mo Farrah, and Georgia Toffolo.
What is confirmed so far is that the same four judges will be making a return to the panel, and the professional dancers making a comeback include; reigning champion Dianne, Karen Hauer, Johannes Radebe, Nikita Kuzmin and Katya Jones.
Angela is one of the guests on this week's Saturday Kitchen with Matt Tebbutt, alongside her podcast co-star Vicky Pattison.
Saturday Kitchen airs weekly from 10am on BBC One.

George Clarke breaks silence on new girlfriend as he signs up for Strictly Come Dancing

George Clarke openly admitted to being in a relationship for the first time in his showbiz career just hours before the YouTuber was revealed to be part of this year's Strictly line up George Clarke has revealed the reason why he confirmed his romance with lingerie model Yasmin Amelia just hours before he was announced as part of this year's Strictly Come Dancing line-up. ‌ The 25-year-old YouTuber, who built a loyal following online with his sharp sense of humour, previously kept fans guessing when it came to his relationship status. ‌ Until now, Clarke has often joked about dating mishaps and dodged questions about his love life. But ahead of his glittering BBC ballroom debut, he decided to go public with a girlfriend for the first time. ‌ He explained his reasoning on the Useless Hotline Podcast, saying he wanted to take control of the story before speculation started. He shared: "That's part of the reason why we wanted to say something. Because the two options were, say something. You have full control over how it comes out. "Whatever you say is basically how people find out, or it stays private. [It] just sort of takes all the control out of your hands. But then, I [will] just go on stream after that and be like, that's not true, by the way. But, yeah, she's my girlfriend." Fans first spotted hints of his relationship during a livestream, and quickly figured out that his partner was Yasmin Amelia, also known as Yasmin Bennett, a model signed to J'adore Models with over 30,000 Instagram followers. Clarke himself boasts more than 686,000 followers and previously appeared on the Netflix reality show Inside. While many of his fans celebrated the news of his new romance, others were taken aback. One Reddit user wrote: "Caught me off guard because he is a very private person especially about his dating/love life. Even on the pod he has expressed his desire to keep things private and off socials." However, another wrote: "I heard about this on his stream, and I'm genuinely happy for him!" ‌ Clarke has also addressed speculation about the so-called Strictly Curse, which what fans call the phenomenon of many stars who join the show leaving their partners for someone they've met during the competition. He quickly dismissed the idea that his relationship could be at risk because of his upcoming time on Strictly, and insisted that he went public about his girlfriend because he wanted to be honest with his fans, rather than as a form of damage control. Clarke also accidentally dropped another interesting piece of information on the podcast, hinting at who he might be partnered with on the show. He revealed that he had already met professional dancer Lauren Oakley in rehearsals, saying: "I've not met anyone apart from, I believe her name's Lauren, who was the pro that I met. Because when we had an interview for it, so it's like an hour long interview, and then like an hour long dance session." Oakley, who joined the Strictly pro team in 2022, has previously competed with journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy and singer JB Gill. If Clarke's slip-up means what it seems to imply, she might be guiding the YouTube star through his first ballroom steps.

Corrie's Todd Grimshaw trapped in dark spiral as horrifying Theo twist revealed

Exclusive: Coronation Street actor Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd Grimshaw, is stepping into one of his darkest storylines so far, and his family can hardly bear to watch Instead of lapping up his latest dramatic storyline, Corrie actor Gareth Pierce says his family can hardly bear to watch it. Likewise, fans who originally championed the romance between his character, Todd Grimshaw and hunky scaffolder Theo Silverton, have warned him to steer clear of his new love. ‌ Tortured Theo (James Cartwright), left his wife and kids after falling for undertaker Todd, having suppressed his homosexuality since undergoing conversion therapy at the hands of Noah Hedley (Richard Winsor), a church clerk, who is now dating his ex. ‌ And in a shocking twist, viewers will see Theo becoming increasingly abusive towards Todd - isolating him from his family and friends, before turning to violence. ‌ Gareth, who has played Todd for five years, tells the Mirror: "My wife and daughter dip into Coronation Street occasionally and they're hugely supportive, but this story will be a very uncomfortable watch for any family member of mine. "Even my parents may find moments that they don't really enjoy watching. Todd is in danger. Theo's behaviour is becoming increasingly controlling, and there's a moment coming up where it becomes physically abusive for the first time. There's a line that has definitely been crossed; it will be hard to watch.' The relationship will turn violent next month, after Theo makes Todd promise not to speak to vicar Billy Mayhew - his ex-boyfriend-turned close friend - anymore. When Theo returns home one evening to find the place empty, he is furious to discover that Todd is in the pub with Billy, and so downs a bottle of brandy before violently confronting the undertaker on his return. ‌ Revealing the reaction of Corrie fans, Gareth says: 'When I'm out doing my shopping, people come up and say, 'That Theo's no good, you want to get out!' I'll reply,' You might be right, we'll have to see, but I do as I'm told, I'm not the writer!'' Gareth, 44, was born in Pwllheli, north Wales, where he lived until he was nine. 'My dad was in the military, so we moved around quite a lot as a family after that – not just in the UK, but also in Europe. I speak fluent Welsh and English, and my French, German and Italian are pretty good too,' he says. ‌ A bit of a class joker, he says this encouraged his teachers to put him on stage when he was 11. 'I really lived for making my mates laugh,' he recalls. 'It occurred to the school to stick me on stage. Once I had this outlet for that side of my personality, I calmed down.' At 16, he was accepted into the National Youth Theatre in London, before studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. His first TV role was in 2002 in the BBC Wales series First Degree. He was also in the S4C series Caerdydd for four years, saying: 'I started out playing a lot of geeks, but I then played a soldier coming back from Iraq in the feature film Cymru Fach, which was the first more hard-edged character. I was able to root that quite a lot in my childhood, growing up in a military family. On the back of that, I was in a series called Y Pris, playing a sociopathic skinhead – he was horrible.' ‌ In turn, he says this landed him a year-long role as Lenny Mac, an abusive drug dealer and jailbird in Stella, which had an all-star cast led by Ruth Jones. He also enjoyed theatre work, including a stint at London's Globe Theatre and in 2020 joined the cast of Radio 4's The Archers as Gavin, the son of Philip Moss. Later that year, he joined Corrie, playing Todd, replacing Bruno Langley, who had left the show. 'I knew there were going to be plenty of eyes on the re-cast and whether it was going to work or not,' Gareth acknowledges. 'But I saw it as a great opportunity to play a character who was established and complex and had these rich shared histories with other characters. ‌ 'I watched the previous actor's depiction, so I could zone in on some of his key traits, but then it became about building my own performance and focusing on things that came more naturally to me as a performer, rather than trying to match the previous depiction.' And Todd's character has come full circle, starting as a sneaky schemer and now revealing his vulnerable side after meeting Theo. Gareth warns that the couple's relationship will become increasingly abusive over the coming weeks and months, revealing: 'It's emotional control and body image. Theo has already tried to get Todd on a fitness kick, and he starts to make the odd comment about Todd's body. Theo is fighting on a few fronts to chip away at Todd's self-esteem. ‌ 'Further down the road, there's financial control. It's very frustrating for the audience. They just want to shout, 'run!' I think that's quite close to real life. We can be objective about other people's relationships sooner than we can be about our own. 'So, the audience is a little further ahead than Todd in recognising what's going on. The audience is also party to a couple of occasional sadistic glances from Theo that Todd doesn't see.' ‌ James Cartwright and Gareth - who were both in The Archers - have found the storyline intense at times. 'Between scenes we get a cuppa together and have a good laugh,' Gareth says. 'You need that when the story is quite dark. James is a genuinely lovely guy in real life, so it can't be easy playing such a sadistic character.' In real life, Gareth loves keeping fit and unwinds from work with endurance sports, including cycling, swimming, hiking, trail running and triathlons. 'I'll always try to put that into my day if I can,' he says. 'I try to organise at least one charity event a year. This year, I've done a Cardiff to Tenby 100-mile bike ride to raise money for Noah's Ark Children's Hospital in Cardiff. I also partner with Age UK, and two years ago, I did the SAS Fan Dance, which is based on part of the SAS selection course.' ‌ Gareth is also a talented singer and musician. He's been in several bands over the years, including the indie group Hafaliadau = Equations, which released a Welsh-speaking album in 2008. Also the drummer in two heavy metal bands – Survivalists and Brandyman - he says: 'We had quite a cult following. I had a Freddie Mercury moustache and wore sleeveless tops. ‌ 'I've always been into heavy metal, punk and hardcore, and I worked for Rock Sound magazine for quite a few years. I miss it; I'm planning to get an electronic drum kit soon.' Eagle-eyed Corrie fans noticed in a recent episode two tattoos on Todd's calves, which he had done during his heavy metal days. 'There was always a part of me that wanted tattoos, but another part of me thought they weren't great for an actor, because they can get you typecast,' he says. ‌ 'I waited until eight years ago and decided to get them on my legs, so they're not always visible. There are a few different bits, but primarily there's a stag with a rising sun and an owl with a moon. They do have some significance, but I also just like that neo-traditional style. 'We've always shot around them on screen. Then, more recently, we decided that there was no real reason that Todd couldn't have explored some tattoo culture off-screen during his London years!'

Richard Gadd unrecognisable in new BBC series with buff transformation

We all know Richard Gadd from Netflix megahit Baby Reindeer, in which he played himself – a struggling stand-up comedian named Donny – and told the bizarre and harrowing story of being stalked by a woman called Martha. The twisty, dark comedy was released in April last year to critical acclaim and awards – and even, in a Black Mirror turn of events, sparked a lawsuit with the 'real Martha'. While the legal case is ongoing, Richard has found his next project: BBC show Half Man, an original six-episode drama written, produced and created by the stand-up comedian and writer himself. Filming in Glasgow recently wrapped, and the BBC has released first look pictures of Richard and Jamie Bell (All of Us Strangers, Rocket Man) as brothers Ruben and Niall, respectively, as they reunite following years of estrangement. But nevermind the next world-gripping plot, Richard appears to have undergone somewhat of a transformation since he was likened to a baby reindeer. Richards looks unrecognisable in the new pictures, hunched over a table wearing a white vest with a great big nest of facial hair, looking incredibly macho. In another picture, Richard sits on a hospital bed looking every bit the stern patient, wearing a blue T-shirt and jeans, with his shoulders curled over and hands in his lap. It seems his character Ruben will be a far cry from Richard's depiction of himself as Donny in Baby Reindeer, if the blurb of the show is anything to go by. In Half Man Ruben shows up at Niall's wedding unexpectedly, sparking a violent turn, and we are taken back to their lives, spanning four decades from the 1980s to present day. According to the BBC it will explore the question: 'What does it mean to be a man?' Curfew star Mitchell Robertson and SAS Rogue Heroes actor Stuart Campbell will play the brothers in their younger years. Notable cast members include Rivals and Coronation Street star Charlie De Melo as well as Doctor Who's Neve McIntosh as Ruben and Niall's mother. Elsewhere, a year on from Baby Reindeer and the lawsuit rumbles on. Hot off Baby Reindeer's release internet sleuths seemingly tracked down the 'real Martha' online and found a woman called Fiona Harvey, who even gave a tell-all interview to Piers Morgan on TalkTV. Now, there is a lawsuit still rumbling on between Netflix and Harvey, who has taken the streaming giant to court, demanding £132million for her supposed depiction in the series. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Previously, Harvey alleged that the series falsely implied she had sexually assaulted Gadd and had been sent to prison for stalking him. Although Netflix filed a motion in July to throw the suit out, a judge ruled towards the end of last year that Baby Reindeer did not live up to its billing as a 'true story' and has allowed Harvey to pursue the court case. Netflix has defended the lawsuit and Gadd's 'right to tell his story', but at the crux is the claim that Harvey has no criminal convictions, unlike Martha in the show. The streaming platform continues to argue in legal papers that the alleged defamatory statements are 'substantially true'. Half Man will air in 2026 on BBC iPlayer and BBC One . Got a story?
