Amorim has supposedly been pushing to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer.
But reports from Argentine journalist Gaston Edul claim the boss has been unable to get chiefs to spend big on a new No1.
Man Utd have been heavily linked with Aston Villa stopper Martinez.
A bid of around £40million is thought to be enough to bring the 32-year-old to Old Trafford.

But so far Man Utd are said to have only seen a loan approach rejected.
Edul said on the 412 YouTube channel: "The deal was very close.
"The coaching staff, especially Amorim, wanted him and Martinez knew that Amorim wanted him.
"Amorim could not convince the board that it was important to spend on a good goalkeeper.

'Well, they told him that Onana was there and said, 'OK, we'll do you a favour and try,' and they offered a loan.
"Aston Villa made it clear under what conditions they would let him go for a sale.'

SunSport exclusively revealed back in June that Amorim was a huge fan of Martinez.
He put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Villa Park last summer but was still expected to depart this summer after tearfully waving to fans in the final match of last season.
Away from Martinez, Man Utd are said to be keen on Gianluigi Donnarumma as he looks to leave PSG after being replaced by Lucas Chevalier.
There has been interest in Onana from Monaco, Inter Milan and Saudi Arabian sides.
But the keeper is said to be desperate to prove the doubters wrong after two difficult seasons between the sticks for Man Utd.

Alexander Isak's standoff with Newcastle threatened to descend into outright civil war on Tuesday night as the Sweden striker accused his club of breaking promises and betraying his trust. In an incendiary Instagram message he claimed their relationship 'could not continue'. Isak has been endeavouring to force a move to Liverpool all summer but, so far, at least Newcastle have proved resistant, rejecting one £110m bid as they struggle to find replacements. The striker was due to have attended the Professional Footballers' Association's players' player of the year awards in Manchester on Tuesday having been nominated for the top prize but sent his apologies via his explosive social media post. Shortly after Liverpool's Mohamed Salah won the main award for a third time, Isak's words sent shockwaves through the corridors of power at St James' Park. 'When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue,' he posted after expressing pride at being voted on to the PFA Premier League team of the 2024-25 season. Isak then thanked his teammates and 'everyone at Newcastle' for supporting him along the way before increasing the pressure on the club's Saudi Arabian owners to sanction his longed-for sale to Anfield. Mbappe penalty earns Real win over stubborn Osasuna
Kylian Mbappe's second-half penalty earned Real Madrid a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over Osasuna in their opening LaLiga game of the season on Tuesday, giving Xabi Alonso a winning start in his first league match in charge of the hosts. After struggling to break down a stubborn Osasuna defence in the opening half, Mbappe won the penalty and converted from the spot six minutes after the break to give Real the lead, but the home side were unable to increase their advantage. The visitors had Abel Bretones sent off in added time for a foul off the ball on Gonzalo Garcia as Alonso's side got their league campaign off to a winning, but underwhelming start as they look to wrestle back the league title from Barcelona. Alonso's side, whose last competitive game ended in a 4-0 defeat to Paris St Germain in the Club World Cup semi-finals, completely dominated against a visiting side clearly content to sit back and perhaps come away with a draw, which they almost managed.
