Hollywood A-lister's notorious father was a contract-killing assassin

The famous Hollywood star's father was a two-time convicted murderer and armed robber who once even attempted a prison break
A Hollywood A-lister's father is a twice-convicted murderer and armed robber.
Famed for his roles in smash hits such as True Detective, The Hunger Games (no, not the prequel), Cheers, and No Country for Old Men — Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson has a notorious father.

Charles Voyde Harrelson, Woody's dad, was tried for three murders, spent time behind bars on multiple occasions, and even attempted a prison break over the course of his colourful life.

Two weeks ago, Instagram account historyfeels posted about Woody's infamous father, leading to fans exclaiming their shock and surprise.
In a detailed caption, the Instagram post delved into Charles' "deep ties to organized crime" and reminded social media users of his conviction and "two consecutive life terms" post which Charles "spent the rest of his life in federal prison, where he died in 2007".

The post further declared: 'In 1979, he was charged with the assassination of U.S. District Judge John H. Wood Jr., the first federal judge to be murdered in the 20th century. Harrelson carried out the hit for $250,000 on behalf of a drug dealer awaiting trial. He was captured after a six-hour standoff with police, during which he confessed to multiple killings, including JFK's, though that claim was widely dismissed.
'In 1982, Harrelson was convicted and sentenced to two consecutive life terms. He spent the rest of his life in federal prison, where he died in 2007.'

One user commented: 'I was today years old when I learned this... Well alrighty then... Holy cow ! I never heard this story before!...'
While a Woody fan wrote: "Hats off to Woody Harrelson for not letting his past personal life dictate his own life and, ultimately, his career as an actor. Brilliant actor."
A third user said: "I bet poor Woody didn't need the world reminded of that."

And another fan agreed, writing: "Poor woody doesn't need reminding and really don't see why it's any of anyone's business."
Another Instagram user lauded Woody for breaking the cycle and said: "Congrats to Woody for breaking the cycle and becoming a peace loving person."
While yet another fan was left surprised: 'Wow. Had no idea... Never knew this... Interesting. Glad to know his son turned the family legacy around.'

The Oscar-nominated actor and his two brothers, Jordan and Brett, were brought up by their mum, Diane Harrelson, in Texas and Ohio.
Born on July 23, 1938, in Lovelady, TX, Charles had a stormy existence. He worked as an encyclopedia salesman and professional gambler during his early professional years and was married four times throughout his life, reports the Mirror US.

Texas Monthly reports that Charles and Diane Harrelson tied the knot in the 1950s while Charles was on leave from the Navy. In 1959, while residing in Los Angeles, he faced robbery charges but managed to secure five years probation after acting as a jailhouse "snitch," as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
The couple settled in Midland, TX, and during the early 60s they had their three sons - Jordan, Woody, and Brett - in quick succession, over a span of three years. By 1968, Charles had abandoned his family just as the children were beginning school.
Woody Harrelson reflected on these tough times in a candid 2012 interview with the Guardian, saying: "I think they separated when I was 7, but he was gone a lot before that, in prison. Away and back. Away and back. It wasn't like he was there all the time prior to that. [My mom] was well out of love with him. You know, I've got to give her credit because she never really soured us on him, she didn't talk negative about him, never, ever. And she could have - he wasn't the greatest husband. Or father."
Charles, a man with a dark past as a convicted hitman, faced murder charges thrice and was convicted on two occasions, leading to extended periods in jail. He ultimately passed away at the age of 68 on March 15, 2007, while serving his prison sentence.

Everything To Know About Oliver Haarmann

Reese Witherspoon has a new leading man – and if those PDA pics are anything to go by, this duo is smitten. Enter Oliver Haarmann, the European-born private equity financier whose caught the eye of the Oscar winning actress and producer. The Legally Blonde star was recently spotted enjoying some quality time with financier Oliver, confirming what we've all been suspecting ever since their lowkey New York date last year. The pair were pictured soaking up the sun off the coast of Saint-Tropez this summer on a luxury yacht, swimming in the water before sharing a sweet kiss. So, who is the man who's swept one of Hollywood's most beloved stars off of her feet? Here's everything to know about Oliver Haarman... Carl Ludwig Oliver Haarman – who goes by the name Oliver - is a German born private-equity financier, having graduated from Brown University and Harvard Business School with a master's in business administration. Currently, he divides his time between London and New York. Born in September 1967, he is around 57 years old – making him eight years older than 49-year-old Reese. Oliver co-founded Searchlight Capital Partners in 2010, overseeing billions of pounds in assets. Before establishing his own private equity firm, he was a partner at KKR. As well as being very successful in his line of work, he's also a philanthropist. He's a trustee of Brown University, is said to chair IntoUniversity in the UK, and co-founded the Surgo Foundation – a charity he founded with his ex-wife Mela, and their friend Sema Sgaier. When it comes to his charity work, it seems Oliver's main passion is using his mammoth wealth to help disadvantaged children access university education. It also turns out that Oliver is a huge sports fan. The financier owns shares of the New York Islanders hockey team, having bought a 10% stake around December 2023. As of 2024, it was reported that the financier has a impressive net worth of around $440 million (£327.18 million), thanks to his many investments. Oliver shares two sons with his ex-wife, Mala Gaonker. A fellow financier, it's not know exactly how long Mala and Oliver were married – but it's speculated the pair split sometime before 2022. Around that time, Reese was also going through her own divorce. The Big Little Lies star was married to Jim Toth, 54, for 12 years. The couple – who share a son named Tennessee, 12 – announced their split in 2023, writing, 'We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together.' The newly-single pair were first linked in July 2024, spotted dining together at L-Artusi in New York. According to insiders, Oliver flew the Legally Blonde star to New York via private helicopter. Who needs budget flights when you're a millionaire? Sources have described their romance as being very low key, with Reese's children reportedly fans. In October 2024, an insider said, '[Oliver] is spending time with Reese's kids too. Reese loves that he's a businessman and not into Hollywood.' Fast-forward to now, and it seems this is one relationship that's only on the up! In July 2025, the couple were photographed enjoying a yacht holiday in Saint-Tropez, cosying up as they swam in the waters. Charlotte Roberts is a news and entertainment writer at Grazia UK. Chip Gaines defends decision to include gay couple on 'Back to the Frontier' show

Television personality Chip Gaines defended the inclusion of a same-sex couple in 'Back to the Frontier,' a new show featuring him and his wife, Joanna, about families who give up technology and try to live as homesteaders did in the 1800s. The show features married couple Jason Hanna and Joe Riggs and their 10-year-old twin sons, sparking backlash from prominent religious conservatives online. Franklin Graham, the son of evangelical pastor Billy Graham, said in a post on social media that the casting of a gay couple is 'very disappointing.' 'While we are to love people, we should love them enough to tell them the truth of God's Word,' Graham said. 'His Word is absolute truth. God loves us, and His design for marriage is between one man and one woman. Promoting something that God defines as sin is in itself sin.' Gaines responded to the criticism in a social media post Sunday, encouraging people to ask questions and 'maybe even learn.' He added, 'It's a sad Sunday when 'non believers' have never been confronted with hate or vitriol until they are introduced to a modern American Christian.' Gaines has responded to dozens of other critics in defense of Hanna and Riggs' inclusion in the show, quoting Bible verses and saying there are other TV shows critics could watch. In response to a critic who said 'we are extremely sad because of how much we have grown to admire and appreciate you both,' Gaines responded encouraging Christians to 'judge not' and 'love one another.' Hanna thanked Chip and Joanna Gaines in a post on his Instagram story Tuesday for 'leading with love, listening, and learning.' 'Representation matters deeply — especially for those who are still finding the courage to live their truth,' Hanna said in a longer post responding to the backlash from some conservatives. 'When families like ours are visible, it opens doors for others to feel safe, loved, and validated. Visibility isn't just about being seen; it's about making sure no one feels alone.' The couple has faced backlash before, but more often from those who support LGBTQ rights. They attend the Antioch Community Church, an evangelical church in Waco, Texas, which opposes same-sex marriage. In a 2021 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Joanna Gaines said accusations that the couple is racist and anti-LGBTQ are 'so far from who we really are' and that the criticism is 'the stuff that keeps me up.'
