Man charged after using KrisFlyer air miles from accounts he bought illegally
SINGAPORE: A man was charged in court on Thursday (May 29) after he allegedly bought KrisFlyer accounts illegally and used the accumulated air miles to make purchases.
Rizaldy Primanta Putra, 28, was handed four charges under the Computer Misuse Act.
Two of the charges were for the unauthorised access to computer material, and the other two were for the unauthorised modification of such material.
According to a police statement, after allegedly accessing the KrisFlyer accounts, Putra, an Indonesian, flew to Singapore in June 2024 and purportedly used the miles from these accounts to buy a Samsung phone and phone cover from a retail shop in Changi Airport, as well as some pastries from a store in Bugis.
The items amounted to more than $1,600.
After Singapore Airlines lodged a police report on Oct 11, 2024, police officers established Putra's identity, but he had already left the country in September 2024.
Putra returned to Singapore on Jan 11, 2025, and was detained by Airport Police Division officers at Changi Airport.
In court on May 29, Putra indicated his intention to claim trial to the charges.
While he told the court that he has a lawyer, District Judge Wong Li Tein told him that there was no lawyer in court to represent him.
The judge adjourned the case and gave permission for Putra to make two local phone calls to contact his lawyer and to make arrangements for bail.
He will be released from remand if he is able to arrange for a Singaporean bailor to furnish the $15,000 bail offered by the court.
Putra will return to court on June 5 for a further mention of his case.
For each charge of illegally accessing computer material, he can be jailed for up to two years, fined up to $5,000, or both.
He can be jailed for up to three years, fined up to $10,000, or both, for each charge of illegally modifying computer material.
In its statement, the police reminded the public to protect their online accounts by enabling multi-factor authentication or two-factor authentication.

Bali police arrest Peruvian over drugs smuggled in sex toy
DENPASAR, (Indonesia): A Peruvian woman has been arrested in Indonesia's Bali after allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine into the resort island using a sex toy and hiding drugs in her underwear, police said Tuesday (Aug 19). The 42-year-old, identified only by her initials N.S., arrived at Bali's international airport from Qatar on August 12 when authorities became suspicious. "The customs officers suspected her behaviour, and after consulting with the police, they did a further check on her," Bali police narcotics unit director, Radiant, who like many Indonesians has one name, told a press conference. The officers found 1.4 kilogrammes (3.1 pounds) of cocaine inside a sex toy hidden in her genitals and in her underwear. Police also accused her of smuggling dozens of ecstasy pills. The Peruvian woman told the police she was hired to transport the drugs to Indonesia by a man she met on the dark web in April in return for $20,000, said Radiant. The woman has been charged under Indonesia's harsh narcotics law and could face the death penalty if found guilty. Last month, a Bali court sentenced a 46-year-old Argentine to seven years in prison after she was found guilty of smuggling 244 grams of cocaine wrapped with a condom that she hid inside her genitals. Indonesia has some of the world's toughest drug laws. There are dozens of traffickers on death row in the country, including a cocaine-smuggling British grandmother. Indonesia last carried out executions in 2016, killing one Indonesian and three Nigerian drug convicts by firing squad. - AFP

Indonesian jailed six months for having 93 turtle eggs without permit
Photo for illustration purposes only. — Bernama photo KUCHING (Aug 19): The Sessions Court here today sentenced an Indonesian man to six months' imprisonment for unlawfully possessing 93 marine turtle eggs. Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi convicted Wiki Handri on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 37(1) of the Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998, punishable under Section 37(2)(a) and read together with Section 29(1)(c) of the same Ordinance. The Section provides for up to two years' jail and a fine of RM25,000 per individual animal part. Wiki committed the offence at a rubber plantation along the Sematan/Telok Melano road in Lundu at about 6.27pm on Aug 14, 2025. According to the facts of the case, a team comprising Sarawak Forestry Corporation and Marine Police Force personnel acted on intelligence reports and detained the accused on suspicion of illegally possessing turtle eggs. A search of a black plastic bag uncovered 93 marine turtle eggs for which the accused failed to produce any valid permission or licence from the Controller of Wild Life. It was established that the turtle eggs were from the Cheloniidae family, classified as a Totally Protected Animal under Part I of the First Schedule of the Wild Life Protection Ordinance.
