Richard has two daughters Izzy, 24, and Willow, 22, with his ex-wife Amanda "Mindy".
They announced their split back in January, after an "amazing 28 years together".
The Sun understands that newspaper columnist Mindy, 59, demanded the divorce after a source claimed she "wanted him gone".
The news was shared by Richard, 55, on an X account which read: "A little update from us; this Christmas we were together as a family and this year we will still be a family but just structured a bit differently.
Richard Hammond's career through the decades
By Summer Raemason
Richard was born in Birmingham in 1970 and studied photography, as well as television production.
He kickstarted his career in broadcasting at BBC Radio York.
This saw him land another role at BBC Radio Cumbria, Leeds and Lancashire, before he left in 1995 to follow his passion for cars.
He always dreamt of presenting motoring TV shows but initially took a job working in PR after leaving the BBC.
He was involved in corporate events for clients including the Ferrari Owners' Club and Renault Sport.
In 1998 he earned his debut motoring TV job on, hosting Motorweek on Satellite channel Men & Motors.
This opened up many more avenues on screen and eventually he found his way to presenting Top Gear in 2002.
The household show garnered up to six million viewers at its peak.
While filming with Top Gear Richard crashed in a jet-powered traveling at over 300 mph.
The dad-of-two is one of the only people to have ever survived such a horror smash.
Hammond has also hosted science and nature programmes including Should I Worry About? on BBC One.
Other TV projects for the BBC included being the face of Battle of the Geeks, Time Commanders and featuring as a team captain on Petrol Heads.
He also presented ITV's eponymous Richard Hammond's Five O'Clock Show and Sky One's Brainiac.
"Our marriage is coming to end, but we've had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters.
"We will always be in each other's lives and are proud of the family we created.
"We won't be commenting further and sincerely hope that our privacy and that of our children will be respected at this time. With Love, Richard and Mindy."
It is believed Mindy is asking to keep their £7million Bollitree Castle estate, in Herefordshire, as they draw up divorce settlements.
The source told The Sun: 'Richard is very upset about all this. It seems he has tried hard to rekindle the relationship but to no avail.
'There is no speculation that any third party is involved.'
The couple met in 1995 and Richard wrote previously in his autobiography, On The Edge: My Story: "In an instant, I fell in love with her and realised I had met my soul-mate and best friend for life."
After they tied the knot in 2002, the pair snapped up a grade II listed Bollitree Castle in 2008.
It boasts six bedrooms, a swimming pool and 20 acres of land.
Despite Richard's on screen presence, the pair have largely kept their relationship, and two daughters, out of the limelight.
It's estimated their father, a former Top Gear legend alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May, has a net worth of around £70million.

Meghan Markle's silence questioned as Prince Harry leaves secret letter at royal event
Meghan has kept quiet while Harry has made attempts to heal the Royal rift in recent weeks. Prince Harry is making a concerted effort to mend fences with the Royal Family. But Meghan Markle has remained conspicuously silent following her husband's latest peace offering. Earlier this week it was revealed the Duke of Sussex discreetly left a secret letter at a royal event attended by King Charles and Queen Camilla. He reportedly asked a friend to subtly leave a note and a wreath of red poppies at the Burma Star Memorial, in honour of the national VJ Day commemorations. The letter was placed after Charles and Camilla had departed to avoid detracting from the service, which paid tribute to the sacrifice of Second World War heroes who fought and died in the Pacific and Far East. However, Meghan did not sign the letter. And this isn't the first time she's maintained her silence in recent weeks, as experts have pondered why she hasn't voiced support for her husband amidst a 'devastating' boardroom dispute. Earlier this year, the Duke stepped down from Sentebale, the charity he established to assist children orphaned by Aids in Lesotho, following a tense confrontation with the chairwoman, Dr Sophie Chandauka, reports the Mirror. Harry was reportedly devastated by the disagreement, which resulted in all parties being reprimanded by the Charity Commission for allowing the dispute to become so public. Many anticipated Meghan would publicly support Harry. However, her continued silence has raised eyebrows amongst royal observers. In her latest Instagram post, Meghan chose to sidestep the ongoing controversy. The Duchess, 44, shared a video on Tuesday of herself preparing and serving a lemon pasta spaghetti dish. Prior to this, she promoted the upcoming second series of With Love Meghan. Royal expert Dr Tessa Dunlop said: "Now that Meghan and Harry have signed a new Netflix deal ('looser' and apparently less lucrative than the previous $78m one but a deal nonetheless), might the Duchess find her voice? "Not the one she volubly uses to hawk As Ever wares (in conjunction with Netflix) but rather the voice Meghan famously re-found after leaving the Royal Family, the one that talked her truth to Royal power and surely could talk her truth to the Sentebale fiasco? "No, really, why hasn't Meghan come out batting for Prince Harry in his latest round of verbal fisty-cuffs concerning his former African charity? "After all, the Duke has consistently spoken out in support of his wife, establishing the precedent early on and against the wishes of his family when he condemned Britain's media coverage and insisted he had never before witnessed such a 'degree of pressure, scrutiny and harassment' from the press." She added: "As it currently stands, Harry cuts a lonely figure. The Charity Commission 'identified a 'strong perception of ill treatment' swirling in the unhappy waters of his former charity, Sentebale. "It was a terse ruling that exonerated no one; all parties remain incandescent, particularly the aggrieved prince, who insists the report has fallen 'troublingly short'. "In other words, the Duke of Sussex's nemesis, Dr Sophie Chanduka, is still at large, running Harry's former beloved Sentebale. The Duke could really do with some public TLC, especially from his wife, whose own issues with said Dr Chanduka were allegedly caught on camera at a polo match Sentebale fundraiser." This follows the confirmation by Harry and Meghan that they have extended their deal with Netflix, having signed a new "multi-year, first look deal for film and television projects". While the duchess was quick to celebrate the signing, experts claimed that the deal is a downgrade for the couple. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! It's official, Topshop is coming back to London
Kate Moss for Topshop. Joni jeans. The Ivy Park collection. It's been four years since big Topshop closed its doors, and I think I speak for all millennials when I say we never really got over it. But finally, our prayers have been answered: Topshop is back on the UK high-street. It might not be exactly what you had in mind though. The flagship Oxford Street shop, which closed in 2021, remains a massive IKEA. But for the first time four years, fashionistas can pick up Topshop clothes in store, in real life. It's all thanks to a collaboration with Liberty, the famous department store on Regent's Street, a mere stone's throw from where big Topshop used to be. The brand teased a UK stockist in an Instagram video, posted 19 August, which appeared to reveal the recognisable Liberty storefront. Comments on the post quickly noticed the setting, and questioned whether Liberty would be the first to have Topshop's AW25 collection on the rails. The news was then later confirmed by Liberty's group buying and merchandising director, Lydia King. 'Topshop was such a cultural destination for Oxford Circus and Soho, so I think our location is very important,' Lydia told Ellle UK. 'This whole area is obviously steeped in such history and it's really buzzing at the moment. 'To be a part of [Topshop's] return, when there's so much nostalgia about the location, and the brand, and the cultural moment, is really exciting.' It's not the first time Liberty and Topshop have joined forces. Fans of the Kate Moss for Topshop collections will remember the 2009 range, which featured Liberty prints on babydoll dresses and cami tops. While Topshop items have been available online via ASOS, shopping online has never quite replicated that buzz of spending hours in the giant shop. But earlier this year, rumours began to swirl that the iconic fashion brand was making a comeback. Cryptic Instagram posts back in March left fans 'crying, screaming, throwing up', convinced that a bricks and mortar store was coming back. More Trending Only, it turned out to be the return of a dedicated Topshop website, as well as a runway show in Trafalgar Square on August 16. Is this new development one step closer to getting a standalone Topshop store back? Only time will tell. But for now, millennials assemble, grab your Jonis, and head to Soho. BBC Antiques Roadshow guest left speechless at huge value of famous football photo
The Antiques Roadshow expert was left stunned by a guest's iconic photograph of Vinnie Jones during a 1988 Wimbledon vs Newcastle United match. A former guest on the Antiques Roadshow joked that he would have booked Vinnie Jones for "ungentlemanly conduct" after unveiling a unique football photograph. The BBC show was filming at Wollaton Hall with Raj Bisram when a member of the public brought a signed black and white photo of the football star when he played for Wimbledon. The image featured Vinnie grabbing the testicles of Newcastle United legend Paul Gascoigne during a 1988 match. "What an iconic photograph you've brought in," exclaimed expert Raj. The guest revealed on the BBC show: "I was the referee at that match. It was on my birthday, funnily enough. "And it was a first division match between Wimbledon and Newcastle United." He then confessed: "I have to admit, I did not see that incident." Bisram asked: "I mean, if you had seen that incident, obviously, you would have booked Vinnie Jones? For what?". The guest laughed and responded: "Well I suppose it would be for ungentlemanly conduct." He continued: "Monty Fresco of the Daily Mirror took that fantastic photograph. When I retired from work, my colleagues, unbeknown to me, got Jones and Gascoigne to sign it for me." In the left-hand corner, Jones simply wrote to the guest "Be good", while Gascoigne humorously wrote: "Thanks to you, I have lost my family allowance." Concluding the valuation, Bisram disclosed: "I guess if you were to put this on the market today, I would be estimating it would be for between £1,000 and £3,000." The guest was left speechless at the sum, as his jaw dropped at the eye-watering amount and he bit on his lip eagerly. Bisram continued: "I mean, it could go anywhere because it's a one-off. This is one of the most famous photographs of football in history. Thanks for bringing it in." Elsewhere recently on the show, an expert was thrilled by a "unique moment" as he disclosed the remarkable value of a family heirloom. BBC valuer Mark Smith was at Portchester Castle earlier this month when he met a couple curious about the significance of a grandfather's esteemed decorations. "This is a unique moment on the Antiques Roadshow," the expert declared. The expert continued: "In all the years I've been on the roadshow, we have never had a Victoria Cross. The highest award for gallantry this country has. Who was this man?". The husband shared: "This was my wife's grandfather. Unfortunately, I wasn't privileged enough to meet him but my wife knew him when she was a young child". The expert disclosed that the medals were estimated at an astonishing £250,000 to £300,000. Both were visibly shocked before dissolving into laughter, with her whispering: "Golly. I didn't think it would be that much", the gentleman admitted, to which Smith replied: "Easily." The visitor joked: "I need a stiff cup of coffee." His wife commented: "I'm a bit like my husband - shocked. I didn't expect that at all." The husband stated his intention to return the medals to the bank for safekeeping in their security deposit box. "I think that's probably wise. That day, he deserved that," Smith concluded.
