Maharashtra prominent in Indian's unstoppable growth story: CM Fadnavis
In his address after hoisting the tricolour at Mantralaya, the state secretariat, on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, Fadnavis paid tributes to the freedom fighters, martyrs of the independence movement and the soldiers guarding the country's borders.
Our security forces showed the world the country's prowess during Operation Sindoor by destroying terrorist and military targets in Pakistan. The world came to know what New India is, he said.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is progressing and has risen from 11th position to become the world's 4th largest economy, he said.
No one can stop India's development. It has now also set its foot in space, he said, adding that Maharashtra is a prominent participant in the country's unstoppable growth story.
Fadnavis said the Atmanirbhar Bharat' slogan is very important and people must work together to make it a success.
The use of swadeshi' (indigenously produced) is also important. Maharashtra is making a good contribution towards Viksit Bharat. Maharashtra gets 40 per cent of the total FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) coming into the country, he said.
Maharashtra has achieved numero uno position in manufacturing, exports, and start-ups. The state is working extensively to develop education and human resources, he said.
For five years, the state has been providing free electricity to farmers. The state is doing good work to develop solar and green energy, he said.
Fadnavis said his government is developing AI (artificial intelligence) in agriculture and is on course to achieve the goal of making the Gadchiroli district Naxal-free.
Gadchiroli will be the new steel hub of the country in the coming decade, he asserted.
Fadnavis said his government has given priority to infrastructure development, including the construction of new airports and ports, as well as upgrading the existing ones. Maharashtra is the biggest participant in the country's development path, he said.
Earlier in the day, Fadnavis hoisted the national flag at Varsha', his official residence and later at the Bombay High Court in south Mumbai.

'CII stands ready to work closely with the government and stakeholders to advance these reforms, facilitate industry participation, and ensure that India's growth story remains robust, inclusive, and globally competitive,' said Memani. The apex industry chamber commended the Prime Minister's bold and forward-looking roadmap towards achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047, anchored in sustained reforms and a resilient Atmanirbhar philosophy. With emphasis on self-reliance, innovation, and citizen empowerment, the Prime Minister underscored India's evolution from dependence on others to becoming a confident, technologically advanced, and economically robust nation, said CII. MSMEs, as the backbone of India's economy, stand to gain significantly from these measures. Increased access to talent, targeted incentives, and a stronger domestic manufacturing ecosystem will enable them to scale, innovate, and integrate more deeply into global value chains.

State to become world's ‘Capital of Innovation': CM
Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said Karnataka is already India's IT capital, and it is now stepping forward to become the world's 'Capital of Innovation'. He said Karnataka ranks second nationally in attracting foreign direct investment, and remains among the nation's leading industrial states. The Chief Minister said this while delivering his address at the 79th Independence Day celebrations here. 'Our government has never lagged in prioritising industrial growth. To manage and develop the state's largest industrial regions into global manufacturing hubs with world-class infrastructure, 18 industrial areas covering 44,166 acres have been declared Special Investment Regions. Alongside, we continue to encourage small industries,' Siddaramaiah said. He said, investors have expressed interest in bringing in over Rs 10 lakh crore in investments. Out of this, 48 per cent has already been processed under Single Window IT Platform. Karnataka remains among the nation's leading industrial states, with the manufacturing sector contributing 23.6 per cent to the state's GSDP, and the state ranks second nationally in attracting foreign direct investment, he said. 'A new Tourism Policy has been implemented to boost tourism in the state by developing world-class infrastructure and fostering entrepreneurship in the sector.' Noting that the government has rolled out multiple programmes for the welfare of labourers, particularly in the unorganised sector, the CM said, 'We will be soon implementing the Karnataka Labour Policy to ensure job security.' The state has made significant achievements in the services sector, which contributes 66.7 per cent to our GSDP, he said, 'We are not only safeguarding the interests of all workers engaged in this sector, but enacting 'Platform-Based Gig Workers Bill' for the welfare of over five lakh gig workers.' Under this Bill, the government is introducing an insurance scheme providing coverage of up to Rs 4 lakh for these workers, he added. The government is undertaking various initiatives for job creation, Siddaramaiah said and added that at Invest Karnataka-2025 (Global Investors Meet), held in February 2025, a total of 3,250 entrepreneurs participated. 'We signed agreements with 98 companies for investment of Rs 6,23,970 crore, and 1,101 companies have obtained necessary approvals for investments worth Rs 4,03,533 crore. These initiatives are expected to generate over 6 lakh jobs,' he said. In 2023-24, Karnataka attracted Rs 54,427 crore in foreign investment, ranking third in the country, Siddarmaiah said. 'In 2024-25, we have attracted Rs 56,030 crore, moving up to second place nationally,' he added. Stating that Karnataka is at the forefront in quantum technology, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and biotechnology, Siddaramaiah said the country's first quantum computer is in Karnataka. 'Our Karnataka Quantum Mission will shape the future of science.' 'We are not merely creating jobs. We are creating ideas, inventions, and innovations that change lives. These ideas are reaching far beyond our borders,' he added.

State-specific education policy soon: CM
Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said steps are being taken by the state government to frame a comprehensive 'Karnataka-specific' education policy which will lead to holistic development of the youth. A commission constituted for this purpose has recommended a two-language policy in school education and that Kannada or the mother tongue be the medium of instruction up to Class 5. In his address during the 79th Independence Day celebrations here, the chief minister also said the government was upgrading first-grade colleges and polytechnics in the state, and establishing 13 new technical education institutions. 'Recently, the State Education Policy Commission, chaired by Prof Sukhadeo Thorat, submitted its report. For the first time, steps are being taken to frame a comprehensive, Karnataka-specific education policy which will lead to holistic development of our youth,' Siddaramaiah said. The Commission had submitted its report to Siddaramaiah on August 8. It was constituted in October 2023 following the Congress' poll promise to replace the National Education Policy (NEP) of the BJP-led Centre. This year, the government is setting up 500 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore, Siddaramaiah said.
