Wednesday star Catherine Zeta-Jones celebrating massive milestone with Michael Douglas, 80
Catherine Zeta-Jones is back as macabre matriarch Morticia Addams in the second series of Netflix hit Wednesday . Here, she talks about her role in the ghoulish comedy-drama, and opens up about another very important date in her calendar.
This November, Welsh actress Catherine and her husband, fellow actor Michael Douglas, 80, celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
The 55-year-old, who has son Dylan, 25, and daughter Carys, 22, with Michael, reveals that playing Morticia again gave her the chance to dance and do a spot of sword fighting, and she tells us about working with Lady Gaga and the show's lead star Jenna Ortega. It comes after Mel B's 'spiritual' Moroccan wedding with non traditional dress.
How does it feel to be back as Morticia Addams?
It feels great. Tim Burton [the show's executive producer] and our incredible writers have done such an amazing job with all of these characters. This is Wednesday's story of course, but there is so much interwoven into this season with Morticia and Gomez and other characters. We all feel so humbly blessed to be part of this world.
What is it like to be part of such a huge show?
It's the best. I was saying to Luis [Guzmán, who plays Gomez Addams] how our grandkids are going to remember us for Wednesday probably above everything else we have done. It's a phenomenon. It's become more than just a show.
Jenna Ortega plays your daughter in Wednesday . How much do you enjoy working with her?
Jenna is incredible. She runs the show. I cannot say enough about her as a young woman, as an actor, and now also as one of the producers of this second season. She's just so impressive. I love working with her.
You also had Lady Gaga join the cast this season. How was that?
I was totally starstruck by her! I never got to actually work with her but I met her and I was totally starstruck. I'm a huge fan. She's amazing in the show. Everyone is going to love her even more than they already do.
Is the show as much fun to make as it is to watch?
Absolutely. We have so much fun. The whole cast and crew is like a family. Everyone is thrilled to be a part of something so magical. Everyone was so happy to be back for another season.
Do we get to learn more about Morticia this time?
We do. Our wonderful writers and Tim created a really beautiful storyline for Morticia this season. We get to find out more about her past. We meet her mother and we discover where Wednesday maybe got her defiance from and how it affects that mother-daughter relationship. I'm so happy that we get to discover who Morticia really is beyond this iconic character that we've come to recognise over the years. I got to have a lot of fun with Morticia this season.
You shot much of this season on location in Ireland. How was that?
I loved it. We built a whole studio there. The sets were incredible and the mysticism of Ireland really lent itself to what we needed to do. My ancestors came from Ireland and, being close to Wales, I felt very at home.
We get to see you sing, dance and sword fight this season. How much fun was that?
Oh, I loved it. First of all, the dance scene with Luis is just the best. We worked so hard rehearsing for that and, for me as a dancer, I was in my element. And then the sword fighting... Well, I had done sword fighting before for Zorro so I had a little advantage there.
This November marks your 25th wedding anniversary. How will you and Michael celebrate?
I think I'll be shooting season three of Wednesday, but we will be celebrating. We'll do something around the holidays. But 25 years is a big one. It's a real milestone. We're excited. I think we are going to be doing a party around the holidays because I will be shooting. We also have our birthdays, which we share [25 September], so it's going to be pretty busy!

'I hate modern dating after hosting one of Netflix's biggest ever shows'
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video In a world of reality TV showmances, wannabe influencers and frustratingly toxic men, Love Is Blind UK hosts Emma and Matt Willis are a breath of fresh air amid the deluge of dating shows. I was completely charmed by the celebrity couple last year when I interviewed them for the first season of the long-awaited UK spin-off of one of Netflix's most popular reality shows. They were endearingly nervous about their debut as a married couple helming a show about finding love, shared playful quips about what to order for lunch and had a quiet confidence that proved their real-life and on-screen chemistry. When I met up with them again this year for Metro to discuss season 2, which launches today, the nerves had evaporated, but all the charm had, happily, stayed. For those not in the know, the premise of the hit reality show is all about proving that lasting love is so much more than skin deep. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. So, 30 people ready for marriage date each other in 'pods' for a week, getting to know each other from behind a wall without seeing each other, and the lucky couples who make a connection get engaged. By the end of the experiment, after meeting one another in the flesh and spending time together in the outside world, they must decide whether they will say 'I do' at the altar. Throughout the process, our trusty co-hosts jet in and out to guide them through from one stage to the next. As we kick off our chat about their return, the 17 years of marriage between the Big Brother presenter and Busted star shines through when I point out their matching blue clothes. 'Last year, we were quite nervous. This year, we were much more relaxed,' Emma says about returning to the show. They were well aware of the tough task ahead of them when launching the latest spin-off (there are currently eight international versions). 'We really wanted the UK one to be as good as all of the others and I think it surpassed our expectations, because it had everything. 'It had heart, it had a very British sense of humour,' the TV host adds, with hopes that season two meets the high standard season one set for fans. The British power couple, who share three children, have had their ups and downs over the years, but if hosting Love Is Blind has made them 'grateful' for one thing, it is that they met in the early 2000s before online dating took off. 'The one thing I've taken [from hosting the show] – and it's not so much a reflection on our relationship, but a reflection on the world of dating generally – is, I'm really glad I'm not single,' Emma says. 'I wouldn't want to be on dating apps. I know a lot of people on them, and they just moan about them all the time. I think I'd get so frustrated with doing everything on a device.' The idea of meeting organically (a more and more foreign concept for Gen Z) is what attracted them to this show in the first place. 'I think that is a whole world better than trying to navigate [the] beginning of a relationship through a phone, which must be so difficult,' Emma adds. Matt agrees: 'Absolutely, I think messages can get so misconstrued.' When I ask them about their dating app green and red flags, we briefly go on a side tangent about the turn-off factor of posting a photo of yourself holding a fish (it's a whole thing) to a completely baffled Emma. As such, Matt decides a fish picture 'doesn't sound cool' while Emma ponders hers would 'probably be an overly posed picture'. 'I think if it were someone in a pair of shorts and nothing else… I'm getting the ick just thinking about it,' she jokes. So, naturally, I ask if the show had been around when they were single, would they have gone on it – and their answers explained a lot about why they are such a perfect fit. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Emma called the process 'fantastic' but had one caveat. 'I don't know if I could get married after six weeks because I'm a chronic overthinker and I like to know everything,' she admits with a wry smile. Matt, on the other hand, is ready to leap headfirst, joking, 'I could. I'd be like, 'Let's do it.'' He shares: 'I think it'd be really fun to see what that experience is like, talking to someone and doing the experiment. I think it'd be such an exciting thing to do.' Lucky for them, neither has to worry about getting hitched to a near-stranger in six weeks or navigating the treacherous world of Tinder. They'll happily watch on, however. Season one saw plenty of highs and lows, with fan-favourite couple Bobby and Jasmine recently announcing they're expecting their first child. It's clear both Emma and Matt are delighted, with the former recalling that the loved-up pair were 'hook, line and sinker from the beginning', and she could tell they were 'totally smitten' right up to the reunion. Matt adds he's 'so stoked for them'. Of course, the premiere season also included some controversial characters, not least Sam, who was briefly engaged to Nicole (now married to Benaiah), who became the latest 'toxic' reality TV man to spark concerned fan discourse. Viewers can expect different things from the new episodes, Emma teases. 'I think they're a really likeable cast. There's not really any divisive characters, I don't think. Obviously, Sam last year was quite a divisive character. I don't think we have a Sam,' she says. Love Is Blind marks the latest show the pair have jointly tackled in recent years, in addition to their candid therapy docuseries, Change Your Mind, Change Your Life. While working together might be out of the question for some couples, that's not the case for these two. Matt explains: '[I love] everything about [my] job, but then I always have to be away from Emma, away from the family. So the chance to work with her is brilliant. 'I've always been jealous of her job. I've been in a sweaty tour bus with stinky boys. This is way more fun, got a glam squad now, love it.' As for what's next, Emma is clearly enthusiastic about the future of their professional partnership, saying they're ready to do 'eight more seasons' of Love Is Blind. But they have other ideas brewing as well. 'I'd like to do something adventurous. I don't know if it's a travel show – just some kind of adventure. I love shows like Race Across the World. I think that's so much fun, but there's a point to it,' Emma says. More Trending As in sync as ever, Matt agrees. Who knows what's next for this dynamic duo, who are proving themselves to be a formidable force on British reality TV. For now, however, they have a brand new cohort of unlucky-in-love singles to welcome to the pods. So, let the blush-inducing courtship commence. The first four episodes of Love Is Blind UK season two are out now. Got a story? CLAUDIA CONNELL: Meghan's back, with love. And the big reveal? Harry hates lobster!
Get ready to 'elevate' that ham sandwich and scatter flower sprinkles on your spag bol, because Meghan Markle is back to enrich our lives with a second series of her lifestyle show. During the first episodes of With Love, Meghan, which aired in March, the duchess's culinary tips included how to plate up a takeaway and tie a bow around a bag of shop-bought pretzels. And, if this trailer promoting series two is anything to go by, things look set to be just as ridiculous. In the same week it was revealed that Harry and Meghan's Netflix deal has been 'downgraded', the Duchess of Sussex shows her skills slicing bread, crumbling cheese, cutting a cucumber and washing fruit. Groundbreaking. 'There are easy ways to show up lovingly,' she tells the audience in her trademark gobbledygook, as she packs what look like Jammie Dodgers into a cardboard box and ties string around them. 'I love finding new ways to show people you care,' she trills. The eight-part series airs on August 26 and comes just five months after the first. Both were filmed at the same time. A 'holiday' special has been recorded too, for the Christmas period. Netflix will surely be hoping that this follow-up performs better than the first instalment, which was mercilessly mocked by critics and failed to crack the streaming giant's top 300 programmes. Netflix claims: 'Meghan returns with a fun and heartwarming new season, welcoming celebrity chefs, talented artists and beloved friends for hands-on adventures filled with laughter and discovery ... Meghan and her guests explore bold flavours, experiment with new techniques, and discover simple ways to add beauty to everyday life.' Special guests include: model and TV producer Chrissy Teigen, American chef Christina Tosi, British Michelin-starred chef Clare Smyth, restaurateur David Chang, British-Indian podcaster Jay Shetty and former Queer Eye presenter Tan France. Not quite A-list, then, and some of her guests aren't without controversies of their own. Teigen, who is married to singer John Legend and has her own food brand, Cravings, is shown in Meghan's home 'getting creative and learning something new'. 'Little things like this make me so happy,' gushes Teigen who, four years ago, had to issue an apology for her earlier cyber-bullying of US reality star Courtney Stodden, who was then just a teenager. As well as prepping food, we see Meghan arrange flowers, sit with a potter's wheel between her legs and make what might be a tea towel (it's hard to tell). Harry is nowhere to be seen –this is Meghan's baby – but he gets a passing mention when she tells chef Jose Andres that Harry doesn't eat lobster.

Season 2 of Netflix's 'ghoulish delight' lands 50,000,000 views in just days
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The second season of Wednesday has arrived on Netflix with a bang after reportedly racking up more millions of views in the first few days. The supernatural mystery drama premiered on August 6 with the first four episodes – the rest of the series will be available to stream on September 3. Jenna Ortega reprised her role as the titular character, returning to Nevermore Academy for another year and 'fresh foes and woes' alongside fellow students Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) and Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday). 'Wednesday must navigate family, friends and old adversaries, propelling her into another year of delightfully dark and kooky mayhem,' the official synopsis reads. 'Armed with her signature razor-sharp wit and deadpan charm, Wednesday is also plunged into a new bone-chilling supernatural mystery.' Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. The first series was released at the end of 2022 and went on to become the most popular English-language show on the streaming platform, with more than 252m views. Despite a three-year wait, season two has unsurprisingly soared up the charts on the streaming platform. In fact, Variety reports that the first batch of the season has earned more than 50million views so far. According to the outlet, this matches the numbers that season one premiered with in 2022 – but for only half the number of episodes, meaning the figures could get even higher when the rest, which include Lady Gaga, hit our screens. Critics and fans alike have heaped praise on Jenna and her star-studded castmates, including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Fred Armisen, Luis Guzman, Billie Piper and Gaga. It currently commands a Rotten Tomatoes score of 83%, and has been branded 'spookier than ever'. Variety's Aramide Tinubu praising: 'Full of zing and depth, the season remains just as thrilling as the first.' Lorraine Ali of the LA Times, agreed: 'It's really the performances, casting and artistic flourishes that make Wednesday a ghoulish delight.' Mashable's Belen Edwards penned: 'Ortega remains the cold, dead heart of the series – and I mean that as a compliment in tribute to Wednesday! 'With one deadly glare and a dry putdown in voiceover, Ortega's Wednesday is still a force to be reckoned with.' More Trending As Vicky Jessop of the Evening Standard, added: 'Tim Burton's latest work is still deliciously twisted, and goes down like a spoonful of poisoned sugar. 'Something this addictive certainly isn't good for us, but we'll keep coming back for more.' View More » Wednesday is available to stream on Netflix now. Got a story?
