BJP silent prayer behind AAP's bypoll victory?
Aam Aadmi Party's Gopal Italia emerged victorious in the Visavadar assembly by-election; however, political circles are abuzz with claims that the win, though on AAP's ticket, was engineered by the BJP. Commentators pointed out that the BJP's strategic decision to field Kirit Patel — an unpopular face within his own party — allegedly gave Italia a clear sight of victory. This, many believe, was a deliberate move to split the Congress votes and keep AAP relevant. In the 2022 assembly elections, the AAP had helped weaken Congress, enabling BJP's 156-seat sweep. Analysts suggest the BJP's hidden aim is to sustain the AAP as a 'vote-cutter' ahead of 2027.
Expelled MLA alleges AAP-BJP nexus
After being expelled from the Aam Aadmi Party, Botad MLA Umesh Makwana has launched a fierce attack on his former party, alleging a secret alliance between the AAP and BJP. He claimed Gujarat AAP is functioning under BJP influence, saying, 'The remote control of AAP is in Kamlam (BJP headquarters In Gujarat).' Makwana was suspended minutes after he resigned as AAP's legislative leader, following the party's Visavadar bypoll win. Calling the suspension 'unilateral', he demanded a meeting with party supremo Arvind Kejriwal. Refusing to quit as MLA, Makwana vowed to complete his term and expose Gujarat and Delhi AAP leaders' alleged political ties with BJP.

Govt. to seek clarity on overage vehicles with fitness certificates
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Wednesday said the Delhi government will approach the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) to seek clarity on the issue of vehicles that have passed fitness tests but are classified as overage. The decision follows criticism from residents, particularly owners of vehicles deemed overage but issued Pollution Under Control certificates after clearing fitness checks. According to the National Green Tribunal, overage vehicles are defined as petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years. On Tuesday, fuel stations in the Capital denied fuel to overage vehicles. Mr. Sirsa said the government aims to present all relevant facts before the CAQM. 'We will present all facts before the CAQM — what steps we have taken, how enforcement is being implemented, and how we are cleaning the air,' he said at a press meet. Barbs exchanged The Minister accused the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of failing to take adequate measures to curb pollution in Delhi. 'It is unfair that the people of Delhi are today being forced to pay the price for the failures of the AAP government, when they deserve to be treated on a par with those in any other State,' he said. However, Leader of the Opposition Atishi alleged that the BJP government has a vested interest of benefiting car manufacturing companies. 'Around 6.2 million vehicles will be removed from the roads so that people are forced to buy new vehicles and fill the companies' purses,' she said, also demanding that the BJP 'reveal how much donations it received from these companies'. The implementation of the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system at fuel stations came after multiple orders issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) since 2014 and a subsequent Supreme Court ruling in 2018.

NDA will form govt. in Bihar with two-thirds majority, says Rajnath
PATNA Ahead of the Assembly election later this year in Bihar, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh targeted the opposition Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Wednesday, alleging that these parties only have the sole aim of remaining in power by any means. He was in Patna to attend the Bihar BJP Working Committee meeting, in which several resolutions were passed in the presence of senior party leaders. Addressing the meeting, the Defence Minister sought to draw the blueprint for the BJP, 'the world's largest party', to take on the Opposition. 'When the Opposition talks about the politics of hatred, we have to answer it with the politics of service. When they talk about pushing Bihar back, we will talk about the road map of a bright future. When they distract the people of Bihar from issues, we should talk about educated Bihar,' he said. Mr. Singh also referred to RJD's rule in the past as 'Jungle Raj' and said Bihar has suffered injustice for decades. 'In the last two decades, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar has made unprecedented progress and the old image of Jungle Raj has been broken,' he said. Expressing confidence that the Janata Dal (United) and BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar will again form the government with a two-thirds majority in the State election due in October-November, he exhorted party cadres to reach every house and share information about the schemes and achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. 'We have to convince the people that if anyone can bring back the lost glory of Bihar, it is BJP and NDA,' Mr. Singh said. BJP State president Dilip Jaiswal, who was chairing the meeting, said everyone got new direction and energy from the speech of Mr. Singh. 'Now we will go among the people and tell them about the development that has happened during the NDA government,' he said. Resolutions passed The BJP's Bihar unit passed a resolution criticising the 'appeasement politics' of the Mahagathbandhan helmed by Lalu Prasad's RJD, which has been opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Act that came into force in April. The party passed a two-page political resolution, besides a 'Vijay Sankalp Prastav' that declared 'Lalu [Prasad] and his allies cannot defeat us' in the Assembly poll. The resolution also touched upon the Emergency imposed 50 years ago, and alleged that the 'lives of many generations were wasted behind [Indira Gandhi's] slogan 'Garibi Hatao'. It was under Modi that 27 crore people have been able to overcome poverty'. The resolution also lauded the Defence Minister for 'giving a strong message to China, while on its soil, against double standards towards terror, by refusing to sign the joint statement at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Defence Ministers' meeting'.

Storm in Assembly over BJP MLA Lonikar's farmer remark; MVA demands apology
Nagpur: The Maharashtra legislative assembly witnessed heated debate on Wednesday over alleged derogatory remarks made by BJP MLA Babanrao Lonikar about farmers. The comments sparked strong reactions from the opposition, with Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) MLAs demanding an unconditional apology from the former minister, accusing him of insulting those who "feed the nation. " Congress legislature party leader Vijay Wadettiwar led the charge, stating, "How can an elected representative make such demeaning comments about farmers? This is an insult to the entire farming community. He must apologise on the floor of the House." Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray and other opposition leaders echoed the demand, calling Lonikar's remarks unacceptable and insensitive. In his defence, Lonikar denied the allegations. "What is being circulated is not what I said. I am being misquoted. There is politics behind this outrage," he said. However, his clarification failed to pacify the opposition. As protests intensified, the House echoed with slogans such as "Mafi mango, shetkaryanchi mafi mango (Tender apology to farmers)," disrupting the proceedings. "The government has failed to provide MSP or loan waivers, and now their leaders insult farmers. This is unacceptable," they said. The episode further deepened the ongoing rift between the opposition and the treasury benches over agrarian distress in the state.
