Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) is here to stay, and the proof is in the pudding - not only has it just announced the addition of a new team, but it will debut in two seasons. The move moves the high-tech indoor league's expansion plans from idea to fact.
The new team will be called Motor City Golf Club and will represent the city of Detroit, Michigan. Its primary investors are the owners of the NFL's Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos.
However, its debut is not scheduled until the 2027 season.

Other investors in the team include venture capital firms Middle West Partners, Present Ventures and Ronin Capital Partners; the Rose Law Group; technology entrepreneur Kal Somani, co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals of the Indian Premier League cricket team; and sports investment firm RHC Group, among others.
"This is a great moment for Detroit sports and a proud moment for me personally," said Michael Hamp, a co-owner of Middle West Partners and Motor City Golf Club's new team governor.
"My grandfather, William Clay Ford Sr., was an avid golfer, and I believe bringing a new format of the game he loved would make him really proud. I'm incredibly grateful for our partners at MCGC – it's an honor to build this team together."
"Detroit's fans are the most loyal in sports, and we're excited to represent our city in TGL and build a team that Detroit fans will be proud to support."
Detroit is represented in every major sports league in the country as the home of the Detroit Tigers (MLB), Detroit Lions (NFL), Detroit Pistons (NBA), and Detroit Red Wings (NHL). The city is not represented in Major League Soccer, but is represented in the second-tier USL Championship (Detroit City FC).

Now, the Motor City Golf Club adds to the city's strong sports presence. Of course, with one season to go before their debut, the players who will make up the team have yet to be announced.
TGL has been vocal about plans to expand the league almost since its debut. There has been talk of both adding new teams and building new SoFi Center-style venues in other parts of the country.
The latter has sparked interest from players like Jordan Spieth, who live far from Florida and have said they would play if they didn't have to travel so far to get to the venue.
Expansion plans also include adding female stars to the league. The LPGA Tour already has a presence, with Michelle Wie West and Rose Zhang investing in the Los Angeles Golf Club and The Bay Golf Club, respectively.
TGL has not yet announced the schedule for the second season. The inaugural season was played between January and March 2025 with six teams. Atlanta Drive GC defeated New York GC in the final to win the inaugural season title.
The other four teams were Los Angeles GC, The Bay GC, Boston Common Golf and Jupiter Links GC.

Sean McVay: Surgery for Matthew Stafford has not been discussed
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was originally supposed to practice on Monday after going through a workout on Saturday. But reporters on the scene noted Stafford was in street clothes to start the session. Head coach Sean McVay told reporters after practice that Stafford's back wasn't feeling good enough for him to practice on Monday. The team will continue to take things with Stafford and his disc issue one day at a time. "We're going to be flexible and fluid," McVay said, via Stu Jackson of the team's website. McVay was asked if surgery is a possibility for Stafford and noted the club has not had that conversation yet. 'There's been a lot of conversations about what's the best method of how we want to approach it," McVay said, via Sarah Barshop of ESPN. "That hasn't been something that comes up.' Stafford has not practiced throughout training camp due to the disc issue. He was able to throw around 60 passes during his workout on Saturday, with McVay noting that Stafford did not have any restrictions on the types of throws. But Stafford's back did not recover well enough for him to practice on Monday. Jimmy Garoppolo has been taking the first-team snaps at quarterback for L.A. with Stafford sidelined.

Shedeur Sanders' hot start doesn't translate into card market
No player has drawn more interest from casual NFL fans this preseason than Shedeur Sanders. And there haven't been many bigger storylines after the first slate of games than Sanders' debut for the Cleveland Browns in which he threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns in less than three quarters of action during the Browns' 30-10 preseason victory over Carolina. That interest hasn't translated to the sports card market, however, and a little less than four months after falling all the way into the fifth round of the NFL Draft, Sanders has yet to gain traction with collectors beyond a handful of outlier cards. Some of the early collector disinterest could be caused by the lack of flagship rookie cards featuring NFL uniforms — his key Donruss, Prizm, Optic and Select rookies should land in the coming months. For now, collectors have largely had to focus on collegiate cards, which are traditionally less desirable. Of Sanders' cards tracked by data tool Market Movers, his most important card in recent weeks has been his 2024 Select XRC Redemption. Released alongside last year's rookie class, these redemptions will be some of Sanders' earliest flagship rookies in a Browns jersey. Sanders' 2024 Select XRC Prizm Base has jumped from $175 to about $350 over the last 30 days, according to Market Movers. Several of Sanders' top sales tracked by Market Movers over the last 30 days have been short-printed variations of that Select XRC Prizm, including the Autographs Gold /10 ($4,500) and the Tie-Dye /25 ($1,850). Overall, Sanders' total market has been lukewarm over the last month with limited volume. His cards tracked by Market Movers are up 20% collectively over the last month across about 550 total sales, and while that percentage increase is impressive, the volume shows an overall lack of widespread interest. Of the football players tracked by Market Movers, Sanders' 552 total sales ranks just 67th. Players with more sales than Sanders over that timeframe include Baker Mayfield (568 sales), Trey Lance (583), Justin Fields (890) and Arch Manning (1.1k). Sentiment could certainly change in the coming months — Sanders winning Cleveland's starting QB job could create that shift — but the 2025 rookie class overall appears to be weak at QB. The key members of the class could get a price bump when flagship rookies finally land, but collectors might still carry a negative view of Sanders if he isn't starting and thriving by then. On-field popularity doesn't always translate to the collectibles industry, and Sanders could be the latest example. Fox, Disney join forces to bundle new ESPN and FOX One streaming services
ESPN and Fox are teaming up to offer a joint streaming deal that will combine their new direct-to-consumer services for $39.99 a month, starting Oct 2, according to an announcement on Monday. The bundle will give subscribers access to a wide range of sports, news and entertainment content from both media giants. The agreement links ESPN's soon-to-launch subscription platform with FOX One, Fox Corp's own streaming service which is set to launch on the same day. 5 FOX One, the new streaming service that will offer up content from Fox's suite of media properties, will be available as a bundle dead with ESPN, the two companies announced on Monday. Fox Corp. is sister company to The Post's corporate parent News Corp. Both the ESPN streaming service and FOX One will be available individually beginning Aug. 21, but the two companies are promoting the bundle as a better value for fans who want to access both without paying for traditional cable. Sean Breen, executive vice president of Disney Platform Distribution, said in a joint statement that the collaboration was designed to make ESPN's sports programming more widely available. 'Working with FOX One on this bundle offer allows us to bring ESPN's world-class sports content to even more fans in a seamless and innovative way,' Breen said, calling it a reflection of the companies' shared goal to meet viewers 'anytime, anywhere.' Tony Billetter, FOX Direct to Consumer's senior vice president of strategy and business development, said ESPN was the first partner for FOX One and called the bundle an opportunity to deliver both value and convenience. 'Viewers will have access to an incredible portfolio of content through this bundle, including NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NHL, College Football and Basketball, NASCAR, INDYCAR, UFC, as well as the upcoming FIFA World Cup,' Billetter said. 5 ESPN's new streaming platform launches Aug. 21 and will include 47,000 live events annually. Alejandro Bernal – He added that the companies will continue to look for ways to make the streaming experience smoother, 'especially for the ultimate sports fan.' The ESPN platform will offer subscribers all of its main television channels, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNEWS and ESPN Deportes — plus ESPN on ABC. The package also includes ESPN+, SEC Network+ and ACC Network Extra. 5 NFL coverage will be a key draw for the new ESPN and FOX One joint subscription package. handal – ESPN says the service will feature around 47,000 live events a year, along with replays, original programming, studio shows, and expanded NFL coverage. FOX One, meanwhile, will gather live and on-demand content from across the company's holdings into a single destination. The lineup will include FOX News Channel, FOX Business Network, FOX Weather, FOX Sports, FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network, FOX Deportes, FOX's local stations and the FOX broadcast network. Users will also have the option to add FOX Nation and the Big Ten Network's B1G+ streaming service to their subscriptions. Fox says this is the first time viewers who have cut the cord — or never had a cable package — will be able to stream all of its properties live in one place. The service is designed to adapt to each viewer, with technology developed by Tubi Media Group that personalizes recommendations and integrates live and on-demand programming. 5 The bundle will give subscribers access to NBA games alongside NFL, MLB, NHL, college sports, motorsports and more. JASON SZENES/ NY POST The new deal comes less than a year after the collapse of Venu Sports, a high-profile joint venture between ESPN, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery that was intended to offer a single sports-focused streaming subscription. Announced in February 2024, Venu was designed to carry nearly all of the national sports rights held by the three partners — including games from ESPN, FOX, and TNT Sports — for about $42.99 a month. Venu aimed to be a one-stop destination for cord-cutters, offering live games, studio shows and ESPN+ content, but excluding news and entertainment programming. However, the project ran into antitrust trouble when competitor FuboTV sued, winning a preliminary injunction that blocked its launch. A later settlement saw Disney acquire a 70% stake in a combined FuboTV and Hulu + Live TV business, easing Fubo's concerns but raising new objections from satellite providers. 5 FOX One will bring together sports, news, and entertainment programming in its new streaming platform. Fox Corporation In January, the companies scrapped Venu before launch, saying it had become redundant amid emerging 'skinny bundle' offerings from DirecTV, Comcast, and Fubo. Instead, ESPN and Fox have shifted toward smaller-scale partnerships, including the new $39.99 bundle. Industry observers see the ESPN/FOX package as a scaled-down revival of the Venu Sports idea — aggregating top-tier sports content in one subscription, but without Warner Bros. Discovery's involvement and without the regulatory baggage that doomed the earlier venture. Both companies are emphasizing that the new services are meant to give customers more flexibility.
