25 BJP MLAs meet in Imphal to push for popular government
Imphal (Manipur) [India], May 30 (ANI): Nearly 25 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs are meeting at the residence of party MLA Thongam Biswajit Singh in Imphal to push for the formation of a popular government in Manipur.
On May 28, nearly 10 MLAs, including eight from the BJP, one from the National People's Party (NPP), and one Independent MLA, met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal to stake a claim to form a government in the state.

Their meeting with the governor came amid a civil disobedience campaign in the Imphal valley led by a Meitei organisation, which alleged that central armed forces had insulted the state's identity by masking the words 'Manipur State Transport' on a state-run bus on May 20.
'The majority of people want a popular government installed, which is why we came here to meet the Governor,' Independent MLA Sapam Nishikanta Singh told reporters after the meeting.
'We also discussed other things, like the functioning of the President's rule may not be the same after the formation of a popular government. Primarily and basically, the main point was the formation of a popular government. The response of the Governor was also nice,' he added.
President's Rule was imposed in Manipur on February 13, days after BJP leader N. Biren Singh resigned as Chief Minister. Ethnic conflict broke out in the State on May 3, 2023, causing the loss of lives of hundreds of people. (ANI)

The home minister alleged that senior TMC leaders were complicit in the violence in Murshidabad in April, which broke out during protests over the contentious Waqf Amendment Act. The home minister also accused the ruling TMC of facilitating illegal cross-border movement. 'The Bengal elections will not only decide the future of the state, but it is also linked to the security of the country. Mamata Banerjee has left Bengal's borders open for Bangladeshis. Infiltration is taking place with her blessings. Only the BJP government can stop this,' he said. Responding to the TMC's criticism of the BSF's inability to stop infiltration, the senior BJP leader said the Mamata Banerjee-led government has not given the required land to the BSF. 'Once the TMC government gives BSF the required land, we will stop infiltration. But, it would never give land to the BSF, as the party wants infiltration to continue so that it can remain in power,' he claimed. Shah also accused Banerjee of failing to take a firm stand on issues of national security. 'During previous regimes in which Mamata didi was also a minister, no steps were taken to deal firmly with terror attacks. But our PM Narendra Modi took firm measures against terror attacks by destroying terror camps across the border. But, Mamata didi has a problem with it,' he said. 'For the sake of her vote bank, Mamata didi has crossed all limits of stooping low. A few days ago, Pakistan-backed terrorists killed our innocent citizens in front of their families after asking them about their religion. Operation Sindoor was carried out to punish these terrorists. The headquarters of the terrorists were destroyed by entering Pakistan. However, Mamata didi was pained over the death of these terrorists. She opposed Operation Sindoor by issuing a cheap political statement,' Shah said. He said that under Operation Sindoor, the central government conducted a deep strike 100 km into Pakistan, targeting terrorist headquarters. 'Numerous terrorists were killed, but this seems to trouble Mamata ji. By doing so, you are not only opposed to the mission, but also disregard the sentiments and emotions of the women of our country,' Shah said.

BJP's Amit Malviya junks P. Chidambaram's negative view on economy
BJP leader Amit Malviya on Sunday targeted former finance minister P. Chidambaram for painting a grim picture of the economy and linking it to alleged wage stagnation and consumer exploitation due to lack of competition in some sectors. Chidambaram's attempt to credit the UPA government for economic reforms also did not go down well with Malviya who wrote in a post on social media platform X: 'It's truly pitiful how a former Finance Minister displays such selective amnesia regarding India's economic journey.' 'To claim that the concept of 'profit not being a bad word' originated solely during his tenure conveniently ignores the reality that those reforms, however necessary, were half-baked measures, forced by a crippling Balance of Payments crisis,' said Malviya, in-charge of BJP's National Information and Technology Department. Earlier, the Congress leader, in a post on social media platform X, said: 'That 'profit' in business is not a bad word became government policy in 1991 when Dr Manmohan Singh was finance minister.' 'The question is how the profit must be shared among promoters, shareholders, labour, government, consumers, society and other stakeholders,' he said. Malviya responded by saying, 'The former Minister pontificates on profit-sharing, yet seems to forget the UPA era's notorious legacy — the 'Jayanti Tax', rampant corruption scandals, and an environment of policy paralysis that left India languishing among the 'Fragile Five.'
