NIA arrests suspect in Nov 2024 grenade attack in Srinagar market that killed woman
The blast was carried out by terrorists associated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)/Islamic State in Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) and had cross-border links, a NIA officer said.
According to an officer who asked not to be named, Ganie was an overground worker (OGW) and had helped the attackers. 'He was arrested on May 22 and is currently being interrogated about his other associates, including overground workers who have links with different terror groups in the Valley,' said the officer.
The grenade attack took place on November 3, 2024, at the busy Sunday market near TRC, Srinagar, which the NIA has said was carried out to create panic and terror in the region and as part of a broader strategy to disturb public order.
Three persons – Sheikh Usama Yaseen, Umar Fayaz Sheikh and Afnan Mansoor Naik – were charge sheeted earlier this month in the case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, Explosive Substances Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Yaseen, Sheikh and Naik are currently in judicial custody.
In a statement on May 3, NIA said it had uncovered possible involvement of other terror groups in the conspiracy behind the grenade attack and has found that 'the trio had planned, conspired and executed the grenade attack with the intent to create panic and terror in the region'.
'The attack was part of a broader strategy to disturb public order and further the violent agenda of terrorist outfits operating with support from across the border,' it added.

ASI, woman head constable injured as scooter gets entangled in low-hanging cable
An Assistant Sub-Inspector and a female head constable sustained serious injuries when their scooter got entangled with a low-hanging cable at Wilson Garden recently. The injured have been identified as Shivakumar T.P. and Suguna. According to the police, the cable got entangled with the scooter handlebar and Mr. Shivakumar lost control and both crashed on the road. Passers-by took them to a nearby hospital, where the doctors confirmed that Mr. Shivakumar's right kneecap had developed cracks and advised immediate surgery. Ms. Suguna also sustained injuries. Mr. Shivakumar, in his complaint to the Wilson Garden police, alleged that cables on poles and trees hanging haphazardly are endangering the lives of people. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under Section 125 (a) (ndangering human life and personal safety of others) under the BNS. The police are now on the lookout for the person who put up the cable for further action.

Ahilyanagar police rescue three bonded workers from cattle rearers, one arrested
Nashik: The Ahilyanagar police rescued three bonded workers from two cattle rearers across two villages in Ahilyanagar taluka. While one cattle rearer escaped after learning about the police action, the police arrested the other, Jakish Kale of Bhosle Akhada in Ahilyanagar taluka. Inspector Kiran Kabadi, of the local crime branch (LCB) of Ahilyanagar, received information on Tuesday that Jakish Kale and his relative from another village had brought three workers from an unspecified location and were engaging them in bonded labour. Acting on this information, inspector Kabadi assembled a team and raided Jakish Kale's residence. "At Kale's residence, we found Farooq Shaikh of Nagpur, Krushnaram Ranghnath and Babuji Surajballi from Bilaspur in Uttar Pradesh," said Kabadi. "The three rescued men said they had been held in bondage for over a year, and the cattle rearers forced them to work in the cattle shed. They said they were sometimes beaten and deprived of food," added Kabadi. The Kotwali police registered a case against Kale and the other accused under sections 143 (trafficking of person), 140 (kidnapping in order that such person may be murdered), 142 (wrongfully confining a kidnapped person), and other sections of the BNS and Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976. The operation was conducted under the guidance of SP Somnath Gharge and other senior officers of the Ahilyanagar police. The Ahilyanagar police have been continuously taking action against bonded labour. In May this year, the Ahilyanagar district administration and the police rescued a total of 38 people and five minors who were pressed into bonded labour in different villages of Sangamner taluka of Ahilyanagar. Sambhajinagar police make criminal walk through streets in handcuffs
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Sending a strong message to repeat offenders, city police on Wednesday made a hardened criminal — Shaikh Faisal, alias Teja — walk through city streets under heavy security. Teja's hair had also been shaved after he was detained on Tuesday. Police commissioner Pravin Pawar said Teja, a known offender with 17 serious criminal cases registered against him, was released on bail on July 29. "Within days of coming out of jail, he shot at his female friend late on Monday night in the Qila-e-Ark area. He was externed for a year from June 2022-2023 and on returning, he had started indulging in different crimes again. We have decided to initiate action against him under MPDA," Pawar said. Police records show that Teja's criminal history includes cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, attempt to murder, rape, robbery, cybercrime, and multiple offences under the Indian Arms Act. A police team apprehended him on Tuesday and produced him before court, which remanded him in police custody till Aug 16. When asked about the unusual move of parading Teja through the market area, Pawar said, "There is no specific intention behind parading him with handcuffs. The police teams were simply escorting him from one place to another." The action, however, was widely viewed as a strong message to criminals involved in street crimes. "We will not tolerate habitual offenders resuming their illegal activities soon after getting bail," a senior officer said, adding that strict surveillance will continue on repeat offenders.
