PM Modi highlights entrepreneurial spirit of Northeast, mentions 'crafted fibres'
In his 122nd episode of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi mentioned the recently concluded Rising North East Summit 2025 and praised the Northeast's initiatives that blend tradition with modern innovation.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted Crafted Fibres, a unique fashion brand from Sikkim founded by veterinary doctor-turned-entrepreneur Dr Chewang Norbu Bhutia.
Crafted Fibres stands as an example of self-reliance and cultural pride of the Northern states.
In his speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, 'Just a couple of days ago, I went to the first Rising North East Summit. Before that, we also celebrated the 'Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav' dedicated to the strength of the Northeast. The North East is something extraordinary; its strength, its talent, is really amazing. I have come to know an interesting story about crafted fibres. Crafted fibres is not just a brand; it is a beautiful confluence of Sikkim's tradition, the art of weaving, and the sense of fashion today.'
'It was started by Dr Chewang Norbu Bhutia, a Veterinary Doctor by profession. He thought, 'Why not give a new dimension to weaving?' And this thought gave birth to Crafted Fibres. He doesn't just make clothes; he weaves lives. He provides skill training to local people, making them self-reliant,' PM Modi said.
Held under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and led by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), the two-day summit brought together investors from across the globe, reaffirming that the Northeast is not just a region but a strategic growth corridor for Viksit Bharat.
The Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025 concluded with attracting investment commitments of Rs 4.3 lakh crore, according to an official statement.
Several landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) were signed with major national and international investors across key sectors.

MP cabinet approves statewide Geeta Bhavans to promote cultural, spiritual learning
Bhopal: In a significant decision aimed at deepening cultural roots and expanding access to spiritual education, the Madhya Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved the construction of Geeta Bhavans across all urban local bodies in the state. The initiative, which carries a budgetary provision of Rs 100 crore, will be implemented over the next five years. 'As our chief minister had announced to construct Geeta Bhavans in each district. The state cabinet on Tuesday approved the scheme, and all district collectors have been asked to provide land on a token amount of Rs 1 only if land is not available with urban bodies. The scheme is for five years, which means all the districts will have Geeta Bhavan within five years," Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said here after the cabinet meeting. He described the Geeta Bhavan concept as 'unique and inclusive,' noting that the halls will be available free of cost to social, religious, and cultural organisations. To ensure financial sustainability, each Bhavan will include commercial extensions such as shops and service centres. 'Some districts can construct these Geeta Bhavans on a PPP mode, as funding size has not been decided yet,' he said. Each Geeta Bhavan will serve as a community hub for religious study, cultural events, and spiritual discourse. The halls will feature libraries and e-libraries stocked with literature on Indian philosophy, the Bhagavad Gita, and other sacred texts. Facilities will also include auditoriums, cafeterias, and refreshment centres, with seating capacities ranging from 250 to 1,500, depending on the size of the urban body. The architecture of the Bhavans will reflect traditional Madhya Pradesh styles, incorporating local art and murals. Municipal bodies may also collaborate with private partners for construction and maintenance, allowing for flexible implementation across diverse regions. Officials said the initiative will not only provide a permanent venue for spiritual and cultural gatherings but also create employment opportunities and foster a deeper connection between youth and India's philosophical heritage. Religious organisations and literary groups have welcomed the move, calling it a timely investment in the state's cultural infrastructure. With the cabinet's green light and budgetary backing, Madhya Pradesh's Geeta Bhavan network is poised to become a cornerstone of community life and spiritual engagement across the state.

PM Modi appeals for unanimous election of NDA's vice presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, August 19, appealed to all parties for the unanimous election of NDA's vice presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan. Praising his life of public service, PM Narendra Modi made the appeal to even the Opposition MPs. Radhakrishnan was felicitated at a meeting of the MPs of the ruling party. He is expected to file his nomination on Wednesday, August 20. Meanwhile, the Opposition bloc, too, has picked its Vice Presidential candidate. Former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy as its candidate for the Vice President's election. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters that Modi, in his address, appealed to various parties, especially the Opposition, to back Radhakrishnan to ensure that he is elected unanimously. PM Modi introduced the Maharashtra governor, who is a seasoned BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, to the NDA MPs, citing his long public life in which he served ably in different capacities. In his speech, Modi also raised the Indus Waters Treaty, criticizing then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for signing it with Pakistan without consulting Parliament or his Cabinet. Nehru did to burnish his own image at the cost of the interest of the country, he said, according to sources. Over 80 per cent of the waters was allowed to be used by Pakistan, he noted. The Modi government put the treaty in abeyance following the Pahalgam terror attack. The prime minister said his government has been undoing the sins of that era, the sources added. PM Modi also said that Nehru later told a colleague that he had believed that the agreement will help resolve other issues with Pakistan but it did not happen, PTI mentioned. Kiren Rijiju said that CP Radhakrishnan has lived a simple life, free from controversy or blemish, and added that his election as Vice President would be a matter of pride and joy for the entire nation. With the BJP-led NDA enjoying a comfortable majority in the electoral college comprising MPs from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Radhakrishnan's win is a certainty amid indications from the opposition INDIA bloc that it will field its own candidate and force a contest.
