Abu Dhabi, UAE –April: The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Informa have announced a partnership extension that will see Middle East Film & Comic Con (MEFCC) held in Abu Dhabi through to 2027. The agreement, which confirms the emirate as the event's home for a further two editions, was formalised during Arabian Travel Market 2025.
Since relocating to Abu Dhabi in 2022, MEFCC has firmly established itself as the biggest pop culture event in the region, experiencing remarkable growth and attracting diverse celebrities, artists, and fans. Each edition has surpassed previous attendance records, solidifying its position as a leading event for pop culture enthusiasts.
The 2025 edition, which concluded last week (18-20 April), welcomed 38,000 visitors, attracting 400 international brands and celebrities such as Andrew Garfield from the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, Charlie Cox from Matt Murdock, Natalia Dyer from Stranger Things, Hideo Ishikawa from Naruto, and Emily Rudd from One Piece. The popular Gaming Arena, in partnership with Abu Dhabi Gaming, delivered a line-up of gaming tournaments and challenges across consoles, PC, and mobiles. Gaming enthusiasts also had the exclusive opportunity to demo new games before anyone else.

This partnership extension with Informa further solidifies Abu Dhabi's position as a leading destination for entertainment and cultural experiences, attracting even more visitors from around the globe.'
MEFCC offers an expansive range of activities and exhibitions that celebrate various facets of pop culture, including film, television, gaming, anime, and comics. Past editions have featured high-profile guests such as David Harbour from Stranger Things, Hayden Christensen from Star Wars, Matt Smith from House of the Dragon, and Iñaki Godoy of One Piece, alongside voice acting legends from Transformers, Dragon Ball Z, and The Last of Us. The event also boasts popular attractions like the dynamic Artist Alley and the thrilling Gaming Zone, which hosts tournaments for popular games such as NBA2K, FIFA 23, Fortnite, and Rocket League, as well as new additions like the Collectors Gallery and Japanese Village.

During MEFCC event weekends, the emirate aims to attract more than 50,000 attendees, with a high number of international visitors expected. This aligns with Abu Dhabi's Tourism Strategy 2030 to boost visitor numbers to 39.3 million and increase the travel and tourism sector's GDP contribution to AED90 billion by 2030.

Since relocating from Dubai to Abu Dhabi in 2022, MEFCC has undergone a sharp evolution. What was once a niche gathering has grown into the Middle East's flagship pop culture event, attracting global attention and a steadily growing fan base. This year's edition, held from April 18th to the 20th, drew 38,000 visitors to Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and featured appearances from major names across film, TV and gaming. The 2025 guest list included actors Andrew Garfield, Charlie Cox, Natalia Dyer, and Emily Rudd, alongside anime voice star Hideo Ishikawa. Beyond celebrity panels and signings, MEFCC has expanded into a broader cultural platform. Yara Sameh Netflix has unveiled the official teaser for season 2 of the live-action adaptation of the beloved manga and anime series, which is slated to return in 2026. The news came out of the annual One Piece Day celebration in Tokyo, where it was also revealed that the show is getting an early Season 3 renewal at the giant streamer. It was also announced that Ian Stokes would be joining Joe Tracz as co-showrunner on Season 3. Stokes was previously a co-executive producer on Season 1. Production on the third season will begin later this year in Cape Town, South Africa. He succeeds Matt Owens, who departed in March after serving as executive producer and co-showrunner on Seasons 1 and 2. Tracz became co-showrunner in Season 2 and has been shepherding the season through post-production following Owens' exit. Production on season 3 will kick off in Cape Town, South Africa, later this year. "One Piece" follows Monkey D. Luffy on his quest to find the legendary fabled treasure, the One Piece, and become King of the Pirates. After its debut on Netflix in 2023, the live-action series spent eight weeks on the Global Top 10, reaching No. 1 in over 75 countries and making history as the first Netflix English-language series to debut at No. 1 in Japan. The show has nearly 100M views and is one of Netflix's most downloaded shows of all time. Officially titled 'One Piece: Into the Grand Line,' the official description for Season 2 states: 'Netflix's epic high-seas pirate adventure, 'One Piece,' returns for Season 2—unleashing fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet. Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line—a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn.
