One of the most popular bakeries in London has opened a second site
Ombra chef Mitshel Ibrahim quietly launched the new Forno earlier this month on Church Lane in Leytonstone, and it's open daily from 8am until 4pm. Forno is known for its cornetti – aka the Italian croissant – as well as bubbly focaccia, sourdough bread, and all manner of sweet Italian patisserie and cakes, such as torta caprese and maritozzi cream buns.
The OG Forno is also home to a deli which sells filled and stuffed pasta, fresh sauces, cold cuts, Italian cheeses, and wines, as well as focaccia sandwiches and daily changing soups at lunchtime. It also serves Roman pizza in the evening, and rumour reaches us that this is also the plan for the new Leytonstone location.
Forno in Hackney is currently hosting a weekly Friday night listening bar takeover called Brillo, where DJs play vinyl-only sets while punters eat pizza and drink natural wine and negronis. Heaven? Close enough!
This isn't the only foodie news to come out of Leytonstone this week. The east London neighbourhood is also getting a brand new M&S Food Hall. The store opens Thursday, July 17 at 9am. Spread over 12,000 feet, it takes over the site of an old Matalan, and will boast a bakery, coffee station and flower and wine shops – as well as M&S' usual food offerings.
Find Forno 2.0 at 47 Church Lane, Leytonstone, E11 1HE.

Exciting Italian restaurant to take over Glasgow unit
Malocchio is preparing to open in the old Mediterraneo site on Ingram Street. The eatery's name is the deeply ingrained Southern Italian superstition around the evil eye and its logo is Il Corno, a horn believed to deflect the negative intentions of others and bring positivity, love and good living. Romano Perella(Image: Supplied)Owner Romano Perella said: 'This is really exciting for us. Malocchio is the first concept I've personally created from scratch, which has helped shape the positive feeling around it all. 'For us, Malocchio is all about positivity, about negativity bouncing off the shield of good vibes so none of the bad stuff in life gets to you. 'I want it to be a sanctuary, an escape from your daily life and problems, from the world and the negative energy – inside it's all smiles and that sigh of truly relaxing for whatever time you can take." Malocchio will serve small plates, aimed at three dishes per person with house-made, fresh pasta in the spotlight. Planned interior (Image: Supplied) READ NEXT: Popular Italian restaurant announces closure - here's what's next Romano continued: 'The food is at the very heart of it all so that's the key – everything freshly made on site and totally looking to that rich culture and tradition I grew up with for inspiration. 'I'm not reinventing the wheel – this restaurant is showcasing the amazing heritage Italy has given me, using all I have learned to create something genuinely new and different. 'It's grown from family and tradition but presented in a modern way that's still respectful to the old ideas. 'Ultimately, this is a very modern take on Italian cuisine, which isn't available in Glasgow at the moment. 'That's what the name and the concept are about – and it doesn't matter if you believe in superstition or not, you will believe in our food." The restaurant is scheduled to open late August. (Image: Supplied) The owner added: "I'm excited to show people what we are building in terms of the room itself, transforming the former Mediterraneo completely. You won't believe it's the same place. 'But also what we are building as a concept with a real social feel, a relaxed, modern dining experience with superb cocktails, wines and of course a style of food that you just can't get in the city at the moment. 'I hope Glasgow loves Malocchio – it's very special to me and I want it to be a real experience, something people look forward to as a break from real life.'

The supermarket's decision to include a slice of the Italian favourite in its £3.95 meal deal has been hailed as a "game changer" by shoppers. II mean, could there be anything better than that? The supermarket chain, which competes with the likes of Asda, Morrisons, Tesco, Lidl and Aldi, explained on its website: "If you would like to take advantage of our 'Meal Deal' offers online, simply link your Nectar and Sainsbury's account." READ MORE: Aldi making major change at supermarkets across UK where thousands of people shop It continued: "The 'Meal Deal' offers are subject to availability and products within the offer must be purchased together to get a saving. You will be able to see all items that form part of the 'Meal Deal' offer on the Sainsbury's website at the time of the deal, with full terms and conditions." One thrilled customer exclaimed: "What a time to be alive," while another declared the move a "game changer". One shopper even noted the generous size of the pizza slice, estimating it to be between 8-10 inches long, and another confessed to a sudden "renewed interest" in meal deals. For those without a Nectar account, they can download the Nectar app or join online at to start enjoying the benefits immediately, including a digital card in the app or added to their phone wallet, reports Birmingham Live. The supermarket giant explains: "If there is a 'Meal Deal' item/s substituted or an item/s which is not within the 'Meal Deal', a voucher will be sent to you which will take up to 72 hours for the difference to be used against a future Sainsbury's online grocery order."
