Fantasy football burning questions: Dissecting the NFC East
USA TODAY Sports is readying up for fantasy season by taking a closer look at each of the league's 32 teams and the biggest fantasy-related questions that surround them. How will new players joining a team affect the offensive balance? Can young players keep up their momentum? How will coaching changes make an impact?
On this episode of divisional deep-dives, it's time to take a look at the NFC East. The division contains the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, the NFC runners-up Washington Commanders, a Dallas Cowboys team with a new head coach and a New York Giants squad with new young players and an uncertain future.
Here are the biggest questions we have about each team in the division:
Philadelphia Eagles (2024 record: 14-3)
How will the offense look in the post-Kellen Moore era?
After a 2-2 start to the season, the Eagles turned everything around offensively after their Week 5 bye. Philadelphia finished the season ranked seventh in the NFL in scoring offense (27.2 points per game) and eighth in average offensive yards (367.2 per game).
That was in large part thanks to the switch in offensive focus to the Eagles' run game, led by running back Saquon Barkley and supplemented by quarterback Jalen Hurts, a talented rusher in his own right. The team's 179.3 average rushing yards per game were the most by any NFC team and second in the NFL to the Ravens (187.6).
The same key players are back for Philly: Barkley, Hurts and all five offensive line starters. Top pass-catchers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are back too. But offensive coordinator Kellen Moore left to become the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, and Kevin Patullo, former Eagles passing game coordinator, was promoted to replace him. Whether Patullo will be able to design an offense that gets the most out of its players like Moore did last year (and en route to a Super Bowl win) remains to be seen.

Washington Commanders (12-5)
Can Jayden Daniels avoid a sophomore slump?
Daniels was the best rookie quarterback in a 2024 draft class that was stacked with talent at the position. He was rewarded for his efforts – in a season with 3,568 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, six rushing touchdowns and nine interceptions – with the Offensive Rookie of the Year award and a Pro Bowl nod.
In 2025, he'll be looking to avoid the same fate as his immediate OROY predecessor, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud. Stroud had a stellar rookie season in 2023 but a more forgettable 2024 season that featured fewer passing yards and touchdowns, and more interceptions and incompletions.
Daniels led the Commanders to an NFC championship game appearance and painted a target on his back in the process. Receivers Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel's production is in the hands of Daniels, who will look to avoid a sophomore slump this season.

NFC NORTH: Fantasy football burning questions
Dallas Cowboys (7-10)
How will new head coach Brian Schottenheimer deploy Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb/George Pickens WR duo?
The Cowboys extended Lamb last year on a four-year deal, then followed that up by trading for Pickens earlier this offseason. While Lamb and Pickens have insisted that neither of them is a No. 2 receiver, there's only one football on the field at a time, so only one player can be targeted at a time. One of them will inevitably get more targets.
On top of the interesting dynamic between two receivers used to being the clear top-dog in a passing offense is the Cowboys' head coach switch-up. Brian Schottenheimer got the promotion after serving as Dallas' offensive coordinator for the last two seasons. Notably, however, Schottenheimer was not calling the plays on offense during his tenure. That was former head coach Mike McCarthy's job.
So as Prescott makes his big return from a severe hamstring injury that ended his season early, Schottenheimer's job will be figuring out how to negotiate target share between Prescott's top two receivers.

New York Giants (3-14)
How much of a factor will young players (Malik Nabers, Tyrone Tracy, Cam Skattebo, Jaxson Dart) be in 2025?
Rookies Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy Jr. were two of the lone bright spots in a 3-14 Giants season that the team and its fans would mostly like to forget. But they did shine brightly.
Nabers recorded 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns last season, establishing himself as the team's clear WR1. Tracy took over as the starting running back in Week 5 and looked the part of a lead back with his 810 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on 180 attempts (4.5 yards per carry). Tracy's scrimmage yards total for the season also surpassed 1,000 thanks to his success as a pass-catcher out of the backfield.
But with three new quarterbacks in the building, including rookie Jaxson Dart, what will production look like from the Giants' young offensive core? How will the incumbent players adjust, and how will newcomers like Dart and running back Cam Skattebo shake things up? Those are the big questions that remain to be answered ahead of the start of the 2025 regular season.

Tua Tagovailoa praises Miami Dolphins rookie Quinn Ewers: 'balling.'
MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa did not hold back in his praise of third-string rookie Quinn Ewers. "I think Quinn's been balling," Tua said after Miami's seventh training camp practice. "I think he's been buying into what he's been told in the quarterback room." Ewers, a seventh rounder from Texas, has made a big jump in recent outings. "Feeling healthy helps," Ewers said of growing confidence. "And I feel like I'm playing faster each and every day. I feel like with what's installed right now, I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on that." Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel says Ewers has improved in the area of timing. The Miami offense is so predicated on timing and rhythm and trust. Tua Tagovailoa: Miami Dolphins rookie Quinn Ewers 'balling' Ewers says he's feeling more comfortable from the college-to-NFL transition. "I would just say the details and just the magnitude of the plays and how much every small detail matters," Ewers said. "Because obviously detail matters within Texas' playbook with Coach Sarkisian. But in the NFL I feel like it's just another level and just the multitude of different variations of plays that they have that match other plays. And it's, but at the end of the day, I love a challenge." Miami Dolphins rookie Quinn Ewers of Texas improving Ewers is the clear number three quarterback, behind veteran Zach Wilson. But it's certainly possible Ewers plays his way off a practice squad projection and onto the roster in the preseason. "That's where all the fun is, is finally getting out and getting to play other people rather than your own teammates," Ewers said. "And you get to see some different defenses and defensive schemes and defense players. Yeah, I feel good about it." Shedeur Sanders is preparing for his rookie season with the Cleveland Browns and is hoping to become a factor in the team's starting quarterback battle. The fifth-round rookie will have plenty of competition for the starting job. Cleveland has veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett on the roster and spent a third-round pick on Dillon Gabriel before selecting Sanders. How will the Browns' quarterback battle shake out? It's anyone's guess, as the competition is easily the league's most open. That said, the release of EA Sports' "Madden 26" will provide fans at least one view of the potential pecking order of Cleveland's quarterback room. Here's what to know about Sanders' initial Madden rating for his rookie season and how it compares to those of his fellow drafted quarterbacks. Shedeur Sanders Madden rating Sanders earned a 67 rating in Madden 26. That places him fourth among rookie quarterbacks in the game, behind only Cam Ward (72), Jaxson Dart (68) and Tyler Shough (68). Rookie QB Madden ratings Below is a look at the full opening ratings for the 13 quarterbacks selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. MADDEN 26 RATINGS: Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty, top rookies for 2025 Shedeur Sanders College Football 25 rating Sanders had an opening rating of 93 overall in EA Sports' College Football 25 video game, which was released ahead of his senior season at Colorado. Sanders will be hoping to eventually reach similar heights in Madden as he seeks to prove himself at the NFL level.

All the changes to CBS's NFL announcer lineup for 2025, including JJ Watt's new role
CBS is home to roughly 45 percent of the NFL games in a given season. This has been burned into America's collective brain by nearly two decades of Big Bang Theory and Big Bang Theory adjacent promos. It's also home to some of the best and highest-profile announcers in the game, even if those two categories don't always overlap. CBS may lack the star power of bringing Tom Brady to the booth, but will counter in 2025 with its own future Hall of Famer alongside a trusted play-by-play voice. Three-time defensive player of the year JJ Watt will move from CBS's pregame NFL Today show to a spot next to Ian Eagle calling games this fall. Watt isn't the only difference you may notice on Sundays this fall. Let's run down CBS's announce teams and point out 2025's changes. 1. Jim Nantz, Tony Romo and Tracy Wolfson: No changes Romo once again gets top billing. He dialed back the "Bob Saget calling America's Funniest Home Videos" cosplay last season, but remains searching for his earlier "Romodamus" form. 2. Ian Eagle, JJ Watt and Evan Washburn: Watt replaces Charles Davis Watt moves from the pregame show to the booth with CBS's No. 2 squad. Davis will still call games in 2025, just not with last year's partner Eagle. 3. Kevin Harlan, Trent Green and Melanie Collins: No changes Harlan, Green and Collins will maintain their position as arguably the most under-appreciated trio on Sundays. 4. Andrew Catalon, Charles Davis, Jason McCourty and AJ Ross: Tiki Barber is out, Davis is in Barber has been taken out of the CBS booth rotation. McCourty returns for his second season calling games. 5. Spero Dedes, Adam Archuleta and Aditi Kinkhabwala: No changes Kinkhabwala made her full-time debut as sideline reporter with this pair in 2024. 6. Tom McCarthy, Ross Tucker, and a rotating reporter: Jay Feely out Feely will spend his 2025 gearing up for a 2026 run for Congress. NFL Today: James Brown, Bill Cowher, Nate Burleson and Matt Ryan THE NFL TODAY will feature host James Brown alongside analysts Bill Cowher, Nate Burleson and Matt Ryan Watt left the panel for game duties, creating a four-man desk for 2025.
