Corrie's Sally Dynevor explains she and husband Tim are making huge change

Daily Mirror02-07-2025
Sally has played Sally Metcalfe on Coronation Street for almost 40 years, admitting she's " not getting the stories that I used to get" but reveals she and real life husband Tim have bigger ambitions
Corrie stalwart Sally Dynevor has an uncanny amount in common with her Weatherfield character - starting with sharing the same name.
Like Weatherfield's Sally Metcalfe, she was diagnosed with breast cancer 15 years ago - so she was going through the experience both on and off screen.

And like the interfering knicker factory supervisor, who she will have played for four decades next year, she is devoted to her real-life husband, writer and actor Tim Dynevor, 63.

Like Sally and her screen hubby, another Tim (Metcalfe) - who are considering fostering on the soap - in real life the Dynevors are keen to enjoy new experiences and take on exciting challenges.
Not least because they are both cancer survivors - after Tim, 63, was diagnosed in 2023 and, thankfully, like Sally, made a full recovery.
Emmerdale star loses 4 stone as lifestyle change reverses major health issue
Determined to make the most of every moment, earlier this year, they enjoyed a dream holiday - from their 'bucket list' wish list - to Japan.
'Going through something like that makes you want to embrace life all the more,'
Sally tells The Mirror. 'We'd love to do more travelling. We're trying really hard to just do lots of lovely things while we can.

'You just don't know what's round the corner, do you? That's why we've decided we should do a couple of our bucket list things.
'We all put stuff off and think 'it's too expensive, I'm not going to do that.' But we're in our 60s now and this is the time to be doing these things.'
As Sally, whose storylines over the years have included fights, affairs and even a stint in prison after being wrongly convicted of fraud, fulfils her dreams off-screen, she admits that she is getting fewer of the dramatic Corrie stories these days.

She says: 'Obviously, I'm not getting the stories that I used to get, but when I do get a story, I really look forward to doing it and really enjoy it.'
But, despite reaching her 60s, she remains an important character and when she is not working, her sense of adventure has increased with age. An avid breast cancer fundraiser, she is planning a daunting week-long trek climbing Mount Kilimanjaro - the highest mountain in Africa - in September, alongside her 28 year-old son Sam, a PR, in aid of Prevent Breast Cancer.
'I am quite nervous about it,' Sally admits. 'We're camping in the middle of nowhere and it's very cold when you get up to the top.
'But I'm determined and I'm definitely going to do my very best to get to the summit. I know people struggle with altitude sickness, but we've got a great guide and I think it' s important to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Life is exciting when you challenge yourself. It's a big wide world out there.'

On her last major climb to Everest base camp for the charity, in 2019 - a challenge that raised £100,000 - at 5,364 metres Sally was taken ill, with altitude sickness. 'It was tough and I was six years younger then,' she says. 'We walked up to the top of Mount Kawakita during the night, so we could see Everest in the morning. Walking back down I was delirious.
'I didn't know where I was, I couldn't breathe properly and every step felt like walking on the moon. I could hear people around me saying: 'get her back down,' 'don't let her go to sleep.' And all I wanted to do was sleep.'
Altitude sickness, which happens when people quickly climb to a place higher than 2,500 metres above sea level, causes symptoms including sickness, exhaustion, confusion, dizziness, sleepiness and shortage of breath and can be life-threatening.

But Sally - devoted to fundraising for Prevent Breast Cancer - is undeterred, saying: 'It's the only charity in Europe committed solely to predicting and preventing breast cancer.
'We're currently building a training hospital at the Nightingale Centre where we train radiographers for screenings and mammograms, so they can go and work around the country because there's a shortage.

'We need to be preventing these diseases, not living with the consequences when they've happened.'
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, ironically at the same time that her Corrie character had the disease, Sally had a lumpectomy and six months of chemotherapy before making a full recovery.
But she says it was also very difficult for her family. She says: 'That's one of the worst things – the impact on families. It affects everyone in your circle.'

Discussing both herself and Tim getting the all-clear after cancer, she adds: 'You walk out and you just feel so grateful.
'While it's been awful, we look at in a positive way and think 'we've both been through it now, that's our blip.' Hopefully now we'll live long and happy lives, with nothing more happening to us.'

Also parents to Phoebe, 30, and Hattie, 21, who are both actors, Phoebe won a BAFTA Rising Star nomination last year, starred in the first two series of the period drama Bridgerton and is currently filming alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Ashley Walters in the upcoming film Remain, while Hattie starred in Waterloo Road.
Meanwhile, Sally is looking forward to celebrating 40 years on the Cobbles in 2026 - and she has dropped big hints at her screen daughters making a comeback. She says: 'It's a very different show now to the show I started in; it's a much bigger cast, but I still love it and I still get excited.'
Still in touch with her Corrie daughters Helen Flanagan (Rosie) who left the show in 2018, and Brooke Vincent (Sophie) who departed the following year, she says: 'I've always wanted them to come back, so I'd be thrilled.

'It would be great if they came back at Christmas, even if it's just for Christmas Day – just to have them around the table again would be wonderful. So, I'm hoping that might happen, you never know.'
Currently involved in a fostering storyline with Tim, while she is enjoying the plot, there is no danger of her following suit in real life
She laughs: 'I looked after my niece's two little boys recently. They're seven and four and Tim and I were exhausted.
'They were so much fun, but we'd both forgotten how tiring young children are. We lay on the sofa shattered after they left!'

The ITV soap has rejigged its cast as a new actor will appear on the Cobbles very soon. ‌ The character has been part of the ITV show for eight years, but will now be taken on by a new actor. Harry Platt, who is the son of Sarah Barlow, had been played by Carter J Murphy. ‌ He took on the part of actress Tina O'Brien's child, having filled in from twins Freddie and Isaac Rhodes. It comes as a former Coronation Street resident is sentenced to four years in prison offscreen. ‌ However, Carter's departure from the soap comes with a good reason. He has landed a huge role in Matilda the Musical and could no longer carry on with his commitments on Corrie. Carter has decided to step away from his role for a year, with a new actor called Josh filling in for him. He will make his debut on the Cobbles in the coming weeks, according to the Sun. Character Harry was born in 2016 following Sarah's fling with baddie Callum Logan, played by Sean Ward. Twins Freddie and Isaac played the role from 2017 to last year. It wasn't Carter's first taste of the big screen thanks to landing the role of a young Robbie Williams in his upcoming movie Better Man. Speaking to press about Carter joining the soap, Jack P Shepherd said: "They've just recast the lad who plays Harry. "Carter is very, very confident." He made his debut on screens in December last year. Just last month, Corrie saw a new actress step into a role following the recasting of a character. ‌ Grace Ashcroft-Gardiner stepped into the shoes of Lily Platt on the beloved ITV soap. The young actress couldn't contain her joy as she announced her new gig to her followers, taking over from Brooke Malonie who portrayed Lily since 2016. Grace said: "I am so excited to share my news that I have joined the cast of Coronation Street playing the role of Lily Platt." She went on to thank the Stagebox team for their pivotal role in her journey. The young star added: "It's been a brilliant few months since my first audition, which wouldn't have happened without the fantastic Stagebox team (who I can't thank enough! ). ‌ "The whole Corrie team, the cast and crew have been absolutely amazing, I couldn't have asked for any more support during my first few weeks filming on the cobbles." Sydney Martin, who plays Betsy Swain, commented: "Smashing it! ! I love the sass you give her." Jack P Shepherd, who plays her on-screen father David Platt, chimed in: "Yay! Great to have part of the family Grace." Grace became the sixth actress to step into the shoes of Lily since the character's introduction in 2013.

Coronation Street fans 'rumble' what Costello is hiding - and truth about Kit

Coronation Street spoilers have teased a secret involving DI Costello on the ITV soap and fans are convinced it's linked to Lisa Swain's late wife Becky Swain and a Kit Green plot Viewers of Coronation Street are convinced they have rumbled a major twist in an ongoing storyline with Lisa Swain. Perhaps we have all been looking in the wrong direction where corrupt officers may be concerned. ‌ Recently Lisa was shown fearing that her late wife Becky, who died years earlier after being hit by a car, may have been a corrupt police officer after comments made by the Radcliffe brothers. Then Kit Green, Lisa's colleague, proved himself to be a little bit dodgy, so when Lisa found out he was looking into Becky's files she confronted him. ‌ But now there's speculation Kit might not be the one to watch out for, and he might actually have uncovered something truly shocking. It comes as spoilers revealed DI Costello, Lisa's boss, would warn her to keep away from Kit, while also issuing an almost threat to Kit himself. ‌ READ MORE: Emmerdale Vinny star warns of 'shocking and emotional' scenes as new storyline revealed Next week there's an incident with Kit and newcomer Eli, a client who has a meeting at Carla Connor's factory. Later in the week after drama with Kit's partner Sarah Platt, Eli claims he was intimidated. He reports Kit at the station, and soon Costello is questioning him. Taking him into a room, the inspector puts Kit on desk duty for the foreseeable future. He then suggests that if anyone asks why, then to say it's because of his injuries to avoid a formal inquiry. Wanting no one to go digging it seems, this then happens again later on. After the drama with Kit, weeks on from him warning his colleague after he tried to access Becky's files, Costello is still seemingly against the detective. So when he pulls Lisa aside and advises her to stay away from Kit and to keep their relationship as professional, she's left concerned. Taken aback, she'll no doubt wonder what Kit's done, with Costello making a comment about him dragging Lisa down with him. It's clear Costello doesn't want the pair talking, and now fans think there is an ulterior motive. With Lisa having looked into Becky's files and been stopped and Kit facing the same thing, something is surely being covered up. ‌ So when Kit admits next week that he dug into things anyway, are we about to find out that Kit knows something, and could this be why Costello is getting him out of the way? According to spoilers Kit claims a case he was working on seemed to be linked to something Becky was working on before her death. Now fans are sure that this may have led to her death and it could see Kit unravel the truth about what happened, and perhaps Costello is the corrupt officer given his desperation to stop things being looked into. Taking to social media one fan theorised: "Costello is bent." ‌ Another viewer said: "Definitely thinking it's DI Costello who's corrupt and hiding secrets about Becky/the case? He's satisfied that Lisa is over asking questions but now that Kit is still asking questions he puts him on desk duty." A third fan posted: "For this theory, I have to put my exasperation with Kit as a character to one side. Costello trying to drive a wedge between Lisa and Kit will have the opposite effect. They'll both land on the same page and work together to uncover whatever it is Costello is hiding." One post said: "Does Kit discover something about Becky's death…is the case Tia Wardley's and does someone at the nick give Lisa the heads up about it?" A final tweet read: "My gut is telling me that Kit is actually the good guy, that he discovers a massive cover up involving Costello and it turns out he is the only one Lisa has actually been able to trust all along, my gut may be way wrong but just putting this out there." Emmerdale's Vinny Dingle 'to report attacker to the police' - but it's not Mike

Emmerdale's latest episode saw Vinny Dingle preparing to contact the police after a beating from Mike, but it was teased someone else could be framed on the ITV soap One character faced being framed by Vinny Dingle in Emmerdale over a brutal attack. In sad scenes, Vinny had his fiancée Gabby Thomas believe someone else other than Mike had hurt him while he continued to lie about a theft from the night before. ‌ But as Vinny prepared to report the assault to the police during the latest episode, he broke down just moments after a confrontation with pal Kammy. It was Kammy that Gabby assumed had attacked Vinny, while she doesn't know just how badly Vinny was harmed having been kept in the dark about what's been going on lately. ‌ It comes as Mike's real identity was exposed as he beat up Vinny during Tuesday's episode, following weeks of Vinny questioning his sexuality ahead of his wedding to Gabby. Mike's real agenda also came to light as he used Vinny's torment against him in a blackmail twist. ‌ As fans know, Vinny has been questioning his sexuality ever since his near-kiss with pal Kammy. He's been left torn over whether he wants to be with Gabby despite his love for her, and he started speaking to Mike online who he thought was experiencing a similar situation to him. This is what Mike, actually Graham, had Vinny believe and this week we finally found out he was using it to blackmail him for his money. In violent scenes Mike beat Vinny on the ground before demanding £10,000. With that he fled the scene with Gabby and Vinny's wedding rings, and Vinny covered the whole thing up. Unfortunately for him Kammy sensed something was wrong and kept pushing, but he refused to confide in him. Instead, Vinny deliberately goaded Kammy into going for him cleary to get him to back off but also possibly to frame him for his bruises. The cruel twist saw Kammy shouted at by Gabby who later threatened him in the pub, refusing to listen to his version of events. ‌ Kammy later visited Vinny to ask what was going on, baffled by his behaviour. But Vinny screamed at him and refused to admit the truth, leading to Kammy telling him he needed to tell someone whatever was bothering him. In the end Kammy couldn't get through to him and left while Vinny seemed thoughtful, before a conversation with Gabby later on. We saw Vinny search for the number of the local police station on his phone, preparing to click call. But if Vinny does report the attack, could he be about to frame Kammy for the crime to cover up everything? Or might Vinny find the courage to tell the police and Gabby what went on with Mike.
