Blake Lively Reveals Her Mother Was Assaulted Years Before She Was Born
Despite the brutal headlines and legal clash between It Ends With Us star and producer Blake Lively and its filmmaker and financier Justin Baldoni, and all the on-set gritty details that have been exposed in court documents, if there's one thing to be said about the success of this movie, it's not that one star got paid more than the other. Had that been the case, we'd probably have heard that by now. From a business standpoint, there's a positive takeaway here in Wayfarer's wisdom in recognizing the popularity of and nabbing the rights to the 2016 Colleen Hoover novel and its 2022 sequel It Starts With Us. At the aorta of this movie's success is Hoover's fevered fan following on BookTok, with more than 2 billion views on her hashtag. The first novel was published by Atria Books in August 2016, and by 2019 had sold more than 1 million copies around the globe. Thanks to TikTok, It Ends With Us experienced a huge boom during the pandemic, and by 2022 was the top-selling print book, with a 135-week run on the New York Times Bestseller List by the end of 2023. Hoover served as EP and worked closely with the production on the big-screen adaptation.
The movie was made for a thrifty $25M, 50% co-financed by Sony Pictures, and dealt with a production pause due to the strikes. Despite the behind-the-scenes drama around the film, it clearly didn't drive business off the road: women showed up at 84% for the big-screen take of a florist (Lively) who deals with an abusive spouse (Baldoni). Tracking had the movie opening to $15M, but heading into its August 9 theatrical release, it boomed to $50M stateside. Sony has been here before in regards to dynamiting female moviegoers (Hollywood could make more movies for them), with previous hits like Little Women and Where the Crawdads Sing. Sony prides itself on yielding great studio margins, and the $60M P&A spend was a targeted sell to women with a big digital boost. Sony, Lively and the It Ends With Us team were keen about moving the romance drama from February to June to two weeks after Deadpool & Wolverine. They capitalized off that heat, not just because Lively had a cameo in the MCU title but also husband Ryan Reynolds, his mom and Hugh Jackman ultimately and hysterically junket-bombed the It Ends With Us presser, a stunt that took off on social. Lively rolled up her sleeves and became a lynchpin in the marketing campaign, involved with the first trailer's edit and obtaining use from her BFF Taylor Swift the song 'My Tears Ricochet.'
Sony also receives a healthy worldwide distribution fee after its co-finance of the movie here. Its pay-one deal is with Netflix, and monies from that are seen in the $120M global streaming and TV line item. Participations are figured at $50M, our sources contending that Baldoni and Lively were paid at cash breakeven. The net profit here after $153M in worldwide expenses is a robust $207M.

Opinion: All About BookTok
Growing up, I didn't love books. Reading for fun seemed impossible. I would only read the books assigned in school, and even had to use Sparknotes to summarize the content I was reading. However, that all changed in the seventh grade when I decided to pick up The Hunger Games series. Curiously, I searched for a reading vlog video, and I've been hooked on reading ever since. As I became more interested in reading, that hobby quickly spread to my social media feed. I was getting recommendations from people on social media, especially BookTok. BookTok is a community of people where readers give their opinions and their predictions of their favorite books, authors, and genres. According to m, BookTok helped authors sell 20 million printed books in 2021 and again in 2022, with sales rising by another 50 percent afterward. Through BookTok, people connect, find new reads, and acclimate into a larger community. However, not everyone has a positive sentiment for BookTok. Critics of BookTok argue that BookTok functions as one major advertisement. Authors market their books. Readers create fan art and promote books, and even bookstores now display popular BookTok books on labeled shelves or tables. Another criticism of BookTok is the maturity level of some content. Inappropriate content can get on the feeds of young, impressionable audiences. An example of this is the book It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. Some people found this book to be a romanticized exploration of very private, damaging themes, such as domestic abuse and toxic relationships. Even if Hoover never wanted this piece of writing to be as romanticized as it is, the misinterpretation of the audience is extremely harmful. Even though TikTok is marketed as being for ages 12+, many kids who are younger than 12 download the app and are exposed to this content. BookTok has changed the foundation of the publishing and writing industry. The sales of books have increased thanks to BookTok. According to The Universe , 'Young Adult Fiction genre saw a dramatic increase after 2020, and sales for Adult Fiction novels increased by 26% in 2021. Most notable was the increase in sales for romance novels, which was a staggering 52% from 2022 to 2023. Overall, the US print book market has grown by 9% as a result of BookTok's popularity.' The other pros of BookTok are that it gives lesser-known authors more credit and more of a platform to excel. These authors use TikTok as a form of advertising for their books, and can gain income on the side. Another aspect of BookTok is the community of people surrounding you. It truly feels like a huge book club. People are exposed to a diverse selection of creators, genres, and books. The diversity of BookTok allows people to find their next favorite read. While BookTok has its pros and cons, it has made a significant impact on the world of literature. It created a generation of readers who are more into, more curious, and more prepared to explore stories outside of their norms. Yes, there are valid apprehensions: the advertisements, content readiness, and exaggeration. However, that doesn't eliminate the fact that BookTok has helped many people discover a passion for reading they never knew existed. Personally, it transformed reading from an annoyance into a pleasure, and I'm not the only one. In a world where time on our phones often usurps reading time, anything that gets people happy about books again is worth it. Whether your taste is fantasy, romance, thrillers, or nonfiction, there's a spot for you on BookTok, no matter what. Related

Fans think Taylor Swift's new song 'Ruin the Friendship' is about Blake Lively
Swift and Lively's relationship has been under scrutiny since the "It Ends With Us" actress' legal battle with costar and director Justin Baldoni. Another Taylor Swift era, another round of pre-release speculation about who her new songs could be about. When the pop icon announced the tracklist to her upcoming 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on the New Heights podcast Wednesday, Swifties immediately did what they do best and started parsing through each song title for possible meaning. One in particular caught their eye: "Ruin the Friendship." Fans immediately hit social media with their theories that the song, which is the sixth track on the album, could be about longtime Swift pal Blake Lively and the status of their friendship. To recap, Lively's ongoing and very public legal battle with her It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni began in December 2024. The pair took legal action against each other, with Lively accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign, and Baldoni launching a countersuit, alleging defamation and extortion. Since then, Swift and Lively's relationship has been under scrutiny. The Grammy winner got pulled into the mix when a complaint filed by Baldoni's legal team (which was later dismissed) alleged that she had pressured him to accept Lively's script changes on the movie, which Lively's team called "categorically false." Baldoni's countersuit included text messages between Lively and Baldoni, in which the actress seemingly alludes to Swift as "one of her dragons" while likening herself to Game of Thrones' Khaleesi (Emilia Clarke). Then, in May 2025, matters reached a fever pitch when Baldoni's team attempted to subpoena Swift, which prompted a rep for the pop star to slam the maneuver as a scheme to generate "tabloid clickbait." "Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history," a spokesperson for Swift told Entertainment Weekly at the time. For their part, Swift and Lively have not publicly commented on how, or if, any of this has affected their friendship, though they haven't been seen in public together in quite some time. And while Swift never reveals who her songs are about, she has been open about how she uses real-life inspirations in her music (after all, Lively and Ryan Reynolds' children have had cameos in or served as character name inspiration in tracks such as "Gorgeous" and "Betty"). A rep for Swift didn't immediately respond to EW's request for comment Thursday, but, the singer herself did provide some possible context on the New Heights podcast Wednesday. In the conversation, which was between Swift, her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother, Jason, the singer revealed that she (somehow?) found time while she was on her Eras Tour in Europe to record Showgirl. "I just love it a lot. I love music," Swift shared. "I would be playing shows. I'd do, like, three shows in a row. I'd have three days off. I'd fly to Sweden, go back to the tour — and actually, like, working on this – I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating." The European leg of Swift's tour took place between May and August of 2024, so if the album was written and recorded in its entirety during that time, it likely couldn't be about Lively, given that the It Ends With Us drama began in earnest in December of that year. But, until Swift or Lively provide more insight, fans are just going to have to wait til The Life of a Showgirl releases on Oct. 3 to find out just who or what the song could be about.
