Ticketmaster threatened with legal action over Oasis gig ticket sales by UK watchdog

TICKETMASTER is being threatened with legal action over Oasis gig ticket sales by the UK watchdog.
More than 900,000 tickets went on sale in August last year via Ticketmaster for the tour, which reunites Noel and Liam Gallagher, and is set to kick off on Friday in Cardiff.

In March, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said it was worried Ticketmaster may have misled fans over the pricing of tickets when they went on sale.
It said it was concerned that it had broken consumer protection law by labelling seats at Platinum despite being in the same area of the stadium and selling them for £350 instead of £150 face value.
The CMA also said that Oasis fans were not told about two categories of standing tickets, with cheaper ones sold first before more expensive standing tickets were sold.
It means Oasis fans waited in a queue, some for more than 12 hours, for tickets without knowing the price, then having to decide whether to pay a higher amount than expected.
It did not find evidence of a 'dynamic pricing' model being used during the sale.
Ticketmaster made some changes to its ticket sale process but the CMA said it'does not currently consider these changes are sufficient'.
It had been trying to work with them to change their pricing and ticket information - but today in a letter to the business and trade select committee published today, the CMA it wasn't happy and it is seeking legal action.
It said: 'Having carefully considered Ticketmaster's response, the CMA's view is that there is a fundamental disagreement between the CMA and Ticketmaster about whether Ticketmaster's practices infringed consumer law.'
The CMA will continue to try and resolve the issue with Ticketmaster while it starts legal action.
Hayley Fletcher, interim senior director of consumer protection at the CMA, said: 'All ticketing websites should check they are complying with the law and treating their customers fairly.
'When businesses get it right, consumers benefit – and that's the best outcome for everyone.'
Last week, Oasis announced that they were releasing more tickets for the summer tour.

EXCLUSIVE Mel B's beloved Yorkshire Terrier Cookie serves as ringbearer during Spice Girl's wedding to Rory McPhee at St Paul's Cathedral

They say that dog is man's best friend. And Yorkshire Terrier Cookie proved she's woman's best friend too as she played a very special role during owner Mel B 's wedding to hairdresser Rory McPhee on Saturday. The pet pooch was seen being carried into St Paul's Cathedral by a guest as she prepared to carry out her unique part at the ceremony - ringbearer. Cookie was dyed bright pink - something that Mel has come under fire for in the past - as she was carried past a host of celebrities and into the iconic venue. Traditionally, dogs are not allowed inside St Paul's unless they are guide dogs, hearing dogs or registered assistance dogs. MailOnline understands that the nuptials also saw Rory's brother Jordan act as best man, while pal James Steen filled in to walk Mel down the aisle in place of her late father Martin Brown. Mel's nieces served as flower girls. Yet while Cookie was adorable - she couldn't upstage blushing bride Mel B - who looked incredible in a pearl-adorned white gown as she arrived. The Spice Girl, who arrived in a white Bentley, flashed a radiant smile and adjusted her veil as she prepared to head inside to become Mrs McPhee. Mel's gown featured a sheer illusion design adorned with white pearls and a ruched bodice, with the singer adding a flowing veil to her bridal look. Meanwhile, Groom Rory opted for traditional Scottish attire complete with a red and green tartan kilt. Emma Bunton, the only other Spice Girl in attendance - led the celebrity guests arriving for the wedding as Scary Spice prepared to walk down the aisle for the third time. While it has been reported that Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell and Melanie Chisholm will also be absent - Emma ensured she was there to support her friend. Also in attendance was Mel's sister Danielle Brown, Daisy Lowe, Katherine Ryan and Gaby Roslin - who were dressed to impress for the ceremony. Mel confirmed she was tying the knot with Rory back in November 2022 after three years of dating after he got down on one knee with a £100k diamond ring. The singer has credited Rory for making her feel 'more confident than ever'. The couple have known each other for years, with Rory having been a family friend and has worked as her hair stylist. And Mel has ensured she pulled out all the stops to ensure her wedding to Rory is a picture perfect day, and after saying her vows, she'll throw a huge 'party in the sky' after hiring the Shard in London for the wedding reception. The Spice Girl will be joined by her guests for a meal, drinks and dancing at the Shangri-La venue inside the building which boasts 95 floors and promises panoramic views over the capital. There her friends and family will dance into the small hours as the 'party of the century' has been promised by the bride and groom.
