IndiGo Slapped With Rs 1.5 Lakh Fine For Providing 'Dirty, Unhygienic' Seat To Passenger
The airlines responded to the complaint by a passenger named Pinki, and said that they assigned her a different seat.
A Delhi consumer forum has held Indigo Airlines guilty of deficiency of service for providing an unhygienic and stained seat to a woman and directed it to pay a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh for the discomfort, pain, and mental agony she suffered.
The New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, comprising its president Poonam Chaudhry and members Bariq Ahmed and Shekhar Chandra, was hearing a complaint filed by Pinki, alleging that she was provided an "unhygienic, dirty and stained" seat while she was travelling from Baku to New Delhi on January 2 this year.
Pinki alleged that her complaint regarding the issue was treated in a "dismissive and insensitive manner".
Countering the claim, the airlines said that they took cognisance of the issue faced by Pinki and assigned her a different seat, on which she willingly travelled and completed her journey to New Delhi.
Noting the evidence before it, the forum, in an order dated July 9, made available recently, said, "We hold that the opposite party (Indigo) was guilty of deficiency in service." "As regards the discomfort and pain, mental agony suffered by her, we are of the view that she must be compensated. We accordingly direct the opposite party to pay Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation for mental agony, physical pain and harassment to her," the forum added.
It also directed payment of Rs 25,000 as litigation expenses.
In its order, the forum said that the airlines had failed to produce the Situation Data Display (SDD) report, which formed a part of its internal operational records as per standard aviation protocols.
It said, "There is no reference to this report in the written statement or in the evidence filed by the opposite party. The SDD is a crucial document used for flight operation monitoring and to record passenger-related incidents. The absence of this document significantly weakens the opposite party's defence.".

NHAI implements FASTag annual pass at 1150 toll plazas
New Delhi, Aug 15 (UNI) The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) today successfully implemented the 'FASTag annual pass' facility at about 1,150 toll plazas on National Highways and Expressways across the country. The annual pass has received an overwhelming response from the National Highway users, an official statement said. Till 7 PM on the first day of implementation, around 1.4 lakh users purchased and activated the annual pass and around 1.39 lakh transactions were recorded on toll plazas. Around 20,000 – 25,000 concurrent users are using the Rajmargyatra App at any point in time and annual pass users are receiving SMS messages for zero deduction of toll fee. NHAI officials and Nodal officers have been appointed at each toll plaza to ensure a smooth travel experience for the pass users. NHAI is addressing queries of the pass users through various channels. Also, to address the grievances of the pass users, 1033 National Highway Helpline has been further strengthened with the addition of over 100 executives. Providing a seamless and economical travel option to the National Highway users, the FASTag annual pass eliminates the need to frequently recharge FASTag through a one-time fee payment of Rs 3,000 for one year's validity or 200 toll plaza crossings. The FASTag Annual Pass is applicable for all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag and gets activated within two hours of the one-time fee payment through the Rajmargyatra App or NHAI website. India should position weddings, MICE as niche tourism segment: Government official
India should focus on promoting weddings and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) as a niche tourism segment rather than grouping it under general tourism development, a senior Union Tourism Ministry official said here on Friday. Independence Day 2025 Modi signals new push for tech independence with local chips Before Trump, British used tariffs to kill Indian textile Bank of Azad Hind: When Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gave India its own currency Delivering the keynote address at what was claimed to be the country's first Wedding and MICE conclave, Additional Secretary and Director General of Tourism Suman Billa said Kerala had strong potential to emerge as a leading venue in this category, according to a government release. He suggested that the wedding and MICE segment should ideally have separate microsites on the country's leading tourism portals to bring its immense scope into sharper focus, the release said. The three-day conclave, which began here on Thursday evening, is being organised by the Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) Society in association with the state tourism department. Billa said Kerala stood to benefit greatly from the sector's growth due to its inherent advantages. Live Events "The state has excellent ambience and infrastructure, and the need of the hour is convergence by linking the dots to usher in a synergy," he was quoted as saying. He claimed Kerala had a potential business opportunity worth Rs 1 lakh crore in wedding and MICE tourism. Billa also praised the state government's decision to go beyond conventional tourism strategies and diversify into wedding and MICE. Kerala's green-friendly policies and its widely acclaimed Responsible Tourism model have helped the state renew its reputation as a global destination, he said. He further said the recent US imposition of steeper tariffs on India was unlikely to affect its status as the world's fastest-growing major economy. The summit has attracted over 675 buyers, including 65 from abroad, representing countries such as the UAE, UK, USA, Germany, Australia, and Brazil. Seventy-five exhibition stalls have been set up for sellers.
