Broncos' 4th-round draft pick from 2024 'doing well' this offseason
'We see him as a 'Z' [receiver]," Payton said of Franklin on February 25. "We move our guys around a bit, so it's not exclusively. I thought he had a good rookie year.
"He's sometimes in that same position where Mims is at, so we have two guys. We have certainly gotten faster because both of those guys can run. We saw that growth spurt with Marvin in Year 2, but I would say I was real pleased how he handled the totality of his rookie season. It can be difficult, and I see him in that role.'
Following those comments from Payton in February, Franklin impressed during the team's spring workouts. The 6-2, 180-pound speedster was praised by his coach last month.
'You haven't been able to see all the plays, but there have been a number of explosive plays," Payton said on June 5. "He can run, and I would say a strength of his is ball in hand after the catch. He can run after the catch. He's doing well.'
Franklin bulked up this offseason, but he still has the same speed and explosiveness that made him such a dynamic prospect coming out of college. After another full offseason of practice reps, the 22-year-old receiver could be poised for a big leap in Year 2.
'There's that [saying that] repetition is the mother of learning," Payton said on June 13. "You're seeing him play faster with a much greater awareness within each play. He's extremely explosive, and I think he's, I would say, five pounds heavier. A little thicker. He's had a good spring.'
After being picked by the Broncos in the fourth round of last year's draft out of Oregon, Franklin hauled in 28 receptions for 263 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games last fall. Payton seems confident that Franklin will build on those totals in his second season.

Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm all atop LIV Golf Chicago board
You get the feeling this was the kind of leaderboard organizers of LIV Golf envisioned from the beginning. As the 2025 LIV campaign is winding to a close, some of the top names originally lured to the now-four-year-old circuit put on a show at Bolingbrook Golf Club near Chicago as Dustin Johnson — remember him? — and Sergio Garcia each sit atop the leaderboard after shooting rounds of 67. And the big names just keep coming as you scan down the board: Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm are among a group that sits just one stroke behind the leaders. For Johnson, who finished the most recent LIV Golf UK event in dead last at 9 over, this wasn't a matter of major strides, but simple tweaks. "I feel like I'm always close, and it only takes a couple shots here or there where my game just clicks back and I start playing good again," he said. "Got off to a little bit of a shaky start today but then started hitting some quality shots and rolled in a couple putts and kind of turned it around and finished off with a nice solid day today. "To be honest, even in the UK, I did not play nearly as bad as my score. I know my score was horrible, but I actually hit a lot of good shots. I felt like every time I hit a good shot it was a foot off from being really good and ends up in a bad spot. Obviously those greens and that golf course is pretty tricky. Just scored horribly." While Johnson has struggled, finishing outside the top 25 in six of 11 starts in the 48-team league, the same can't be said for Mickelson, who is in position to post his best LIV season finish. On Friday, Mickelson was 5 under heading into the final two holes of the day and was atop the leaderboard. He made a pair of bogeys coming home, but he's still in a great spot as the weekend approaches. "I really want to finish the year off right. I've played well this year, played consistent, and have had almost, with one or two exceptions, I've been in the top 24 each week, so I've played consistent," he said. "At 55, I think that's a cool accomplishment, and I would love to finish this year off right, move back up the list, and have two more solid finishes before we go to the Team Championship. "That's more of just a personal goal of mine that I think to play against competition like this, Rahm and Bryson and Brooks and DJ and Cam Smith and Joaco and these guys, and to be able to hang, I think that would mean a lot to me." Tom Brady hilariously trolled Jets fans at his Patriots statue reveal
The New England Patriots honored the greatest NFL quarterback of all time on Friday, unveiling a statue of Tom Brady outside Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. Brady — who retired following the 2022 season — had a legendary 20-season career in New England, winning six Super Bowls while leading one of the greatest dynasties the sport has ever seen. Now, his image is immortalized outside the Patriots' stadium. While speaking to the crowd at his statue reveal, Brady couldn't help but take the opportunity to pick at some old wounds. During his speech, he offered a hilarious troll of New York Jets fans, stating that they now have something to throw beers at when they're leaving the stadium early. "But in the end, this statue isn't just for Pats fans," Brady said. "It will also give Jets fans something to throw their beers at as they leave the stadium every year. Probably in the second quarter. Maybe the third." Brady has certainly caused quite a bit of suffering for Jets fans over the years. Playing their division rivals twice a year, New England held a 31-8 record against New York during Brady's career there. There's no love lost for Brady among the rest of the AFC East, and now, the future first ballot Hall of Famer is simply rubbing salt in the wound.
