#SHOWBIZ: BlackPink first K-pop group to top Spotify's global weekly chart twice

SEOUL: BlackPink continues to dominate the global music scene, proving they're not just K-Pop royalty but a worldwide pop powerhouse.
Their latest single, 'Jump', has soared to No.1 on Spotify's Global Weekly Top Songs chart, making them the first K-Pop group to top the chart twice, according to The Korea Herald.
Following their 2022 hit 'Shut Down', 'Jump' solidifies BlackPink's position as the K-Pop act with both the first and most No.1 entries on the platform's global chart.
Released earlier this month, the track garnered over 44.7 million streams in just one week — the biggest debut of any song released in 2025 so far — and maintained the No.1 spot on Spotify's global daily chart for six straight days, as reported by YG Entertainment.
The group's success extends beyond streaming.
'Jump' debuted at No.18 on the UK Official Singles Chart, marking their highest placement yet and their ninth appearance on the chart overall.
Meanwhile, the song's music video, which premiered on July 11, became the most-viewed video on YouTube within 24 hours and has held the No.1 spot on YouTube's Global Daily Top Music Videos chart for an entire week.
Currently, BlackPink is thrilling fans worldwide with their BlackPink World Tour, which spans 16 cities and 31 shows, with stops in Bangkok, Jakarta, Bulacan, and Singapore.

PUMA & Rosé Unveil New Speedcat Colourway & We're Here For It!

PUMA's sleek yet fiery Speedcat continues its run of form, returning in a new colourway alongside K-pop sensation Rosé. In her latest visuals with PUMA, Rosé and the Speedcat sit in stillness, harnessing idle speed and ready to ignite. With each frame, tension builds as the Speedcat, ready to accelerate, is backdropped by the untamed power of a rumbling engine and blazing-red muscle on four wheels. Once again, Rosé emits effortless elegance while highlighting the Speedcat as a bold emblem of individuality, bridging its unique past into the present. For this latest drop, the iconic motorsport-inspired silhouette takes on a pale blue colourway with a flash of bold orange on the Formstrip, subtly evoking the low-profile silhouette's racing heritage. The new PUMA Speedcat is available now at PUMA stores, JD Sports, and Foot Locker at a retail price of RM549.

New rules mooted after local fans irate with mainland China fans dominating G-Dragon concert

THE fall-out from the 'King of K-pop' G-Dragon shows on July 19 and 20 continues unabated with domestic concert-goers venting their fury over the unavailability of tickets. The problem was further compounded with scalpers immediately re-selling the hot item tickets at inflated prices with many landing in the hands of mainland China fans instead. Fan anger was picked up by local English-language radio station FlyFM (@FlyFM958) which demanded to know on X why Malaysians were unable to get tickets for a performance held in the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Fly FM Malaysia (@flyfm958) As it was claimed that scalpers were charging up to RM24,000 for tickets in some cases, the radio station called for better organisation to prevent future concerts descending into such a mess. The post also listed a number of recommendations that were collated from feedback on social media. Malaysian concertgoers are fed up. Concerts are held here, but locals can't even get tickets? Make it make sense 🤷‍♀️🎟️ And don't even get us started on scalpers charging up to RM24k 🤢 Time to put a stop to this mess. Agree or not? — Fly FM 🇲🇾 (@FlyFM958) July 21, 2025 It was postulated that Malaysian buyers be limited to four tickets each with a system that will spot credit cards being used multiple times as well as block bots from joining the queue. The post also jokingly added the proviso that purchasers must sing one chorus to prove their fandom before declaring – 'Let's bring the fun back to concerts'. That point was hammered home rather more forcefully by Rhjin Eoghan Seamus (@chinhong2018) who fumed that he was made to feel like a foreigner in his own country. He went on to claim that the entire event seemed designed to cater to foreign tourists, especially those from China – and even as a Chinese Malaysian – he was quite fed up. As a chinese malaysian, im pissed too. Feel like they want to cater Chinese frm🇨🇳 rather than local Malaysians even tho the venue is in Msia. Tbh, if y'all have threads or xhs, many Chinese Malaysians are fed up that the 🇨🇳 flocked to the stadium making us like foreigners there — Rhijn Eoghan Seamus (@chinhong2018) July 19, 2025 The view that this G-Dragon gig was tailored exclusively for Chinese audience was reinforced by Ejen Alif (@alif_shinken) in a post containing a video of a lucky draw event by AirAsia in Gurney Plaza, Penang. Why was the announcement made in Chinese when it is for a G-Dragon concert in KL, asked the perplexed commenter who tagged the Communications Ministry to express his disgruntlement. Same goes to @airasia event at Gurney Plaza this morning. At least English la, we want to join the fun too! @komunikasi_gov can check kot. — Ejen AliF 🇲🇾 (@alif_shinken) July 19, 2025 However, this claim that the event was held primarily in Chinese was dismissed by some who were there, including one who claimed to be staff. For sure, better regulation is required. This is to ensure local fans are not alienated from events held in their own backyard. However, the influx of Chinese nationals for the concert is no bad thing. Yes, local K-pop fans may be angry and disappointed but one of the primary reasons for having such concerts is to energise the local economy. And that is better served when large number of tourists visit. If a K-pop concert is the enticement for them to book a ticket to these shores, why not? – July 24, 2025 Main image credit: Lifestyle Hong Kong

#SHOWBIZ: Hybe, Paramount set 2027 release for K-pop film shot in South Korea

SEOUL: Hybe America and Paramount Pictures have reportedly announced they will co-produce a K-pop-themed feature film, slated for theatrical release in early 2027. According to The Korea Herald, the film will follow a Korean American teenager who auditions for a reality TV competition, hoping to join a K-pop girl group, against her family's wishes. Filming is scheduled to commence in mid-September and will take place entirely in South Korea. This reportedly marks it as the first major Hollywood studio project to be shot exclusively in the country. Yoo Ji-young and Eric Nam have reportedly been cast in the lead roles, with Korean American director Benson Lee at the helm, working from a script by Eileen Shim. Lee expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, "This film is my love letter to K-pop — a world filled with energy, passion, magic and an incredible community of support." James Shin of Hybe America, Arthur Spector and Joshua Davis of Epic Magazine, and Hybe board member Scooter Braun will reportedly serve as producers. Bryan Oh, Paramount Pictures' senior vice president, is said to be overseeing the project. It's worth noting that Hybe is the South Korean entertainment company behind popular groups such as BTS, Seventeen, NewJeans, and Enhypen.
