1,000-unit People's Housing Project in Apas awaits approval under 13MP

TAWAU: A proposed People's Housing Project (PPR) involving 1,000 residential units in the Apas constituency is currently in the approval process, after being submitted in 2023, and is expected to be included in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). Apas Assemblyman Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the approval is crucial, as the project is expected to benefit up to 5,000 local residents once completed. 'The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT), in collaboration with the Tawau Municipal Council (MPT), visited the proposed site in the Apas area last year,' he said after distributing humanitarian aid to fire victims at Batu 4, Jalan Apas, on Friday. If approved without delays, the project will become the third PPR development in Apas, which currently houses residents in PPR Sri Titingan and PPR Sri Apas—both fully occupied for years. Nizam, who personally submitted the proposal, noted that Apas is one of Sabah's fire-prone areas, where repeated incidents have left residents homeless. 'Hopefully, this project will be listed as a 13MP agenda item and receive budget approval, as it would also help tackle the squatter settlement problem along the Apas coastline,' he said. He added that such developments are vital for creating a safer, more organised and comfortable living environment, in contrast to the high-risk conditions in densely packed squatter areas. Nizam also expressed confidence in the State Government's understanding of the housing challenges in Apas, and called for more public housing projects in the area or nearby Tawau township. 'This is particularly important for squatter residents living in homes that are tightly clustered and highly vulnerable to fires,' he added. On humanitarian aid, Nizam said assistance was channeled through the Sabah Welfare Foundation (YKS) and the State Internal Affairs and Research Office, benefitting fire victims from two separate incidents in Batu 4, Jalan Apas. Fahmi covers relocation costs for Pantai Dalam fire victims
KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has pledged to cover the relocation costs for 14 families displaced by a recent fire in Pantai Dalam, moving them into Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) People's Housing Project (PPR) units as temporary accommodation. He said the arrangements were finalised following discussions with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif. "All requirements for the relocation have been approved. I visited the 14 families currently staying at the temporary relief centre. Alhamdulillah, in a short time, Dr Zaliha and Datuk Seri Maimunah approved their move into transit homes for those eligible. "Following the approval, my office also received cash contributions from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), which will be distributed to the affected families," he said during his speech at the Arts and Culture Promotion Programme at PPR Kerinchi today. The fire, which broke out around 11pm on Aug 8, destroyed 14 squatter houses and four shop lots, including Mydin Mart and Pasaraya Karnival. Fahmi said DBKL would cover six months' rent for the families, while his office would absorb the cost of the deposits. "I will cover all deposits imposed by DBKL so the families will not need to pay anything. We want to help them rebuild their lives in a supportive environment after their homes were destroyed in the fire," he added.

KDCA urges Murut, Lundayeh communities to stay united under association
