Loose Women star eyes up normal office job amid ITV cuts bloodbath

Daily Mirror12-07-2025
Singer, actress and TV personality Brenda Edwards talks about the changes to Loose Women, the soap she'd love to star in and the office job she still has
Brenda Edwards rose to fame after finishing fourth on The X Factor in 2005. Since then she has forged a successful career as a theatre star and become a firm favourite on the Loose Women panel, which she joined in 2019. The star has brought her trademark fun and humour to the chat show, previously confessing that she and Judi Love are the' wildest Loose Women'.
But it's all change soon, after ITV announced that the show will be aired for just 30 weeks a year from January. Here, Brenda, 56, gives her surprisingly philosophical take on the news – and reveals the beloved soap she'd adore a part in and why, when work is lean, she's quite happy to return to her temping job...

Hi Brenda! Loose Women is so popular, it's hard to believe ITV is cutting its screen time next year…
I think a lot of people were surprised, but it's a business and you've got to run a business in the most efficient way possible. I don't have anything to do with the business side, I'm just about giving my stories, opinions and views on things, so as long as I'm allowed to do that, I'm happy.
Rumour has it they may stop filming with a live audience…

They haven't confirmed it, but I would miss it. A live audience is great because it gives you some affirmation, it confirms the things that you're saying when With Brian May in We Will Rock You they clap. But we did without in lockdown, so... There might be a lot of fans at home who write in and ask for the audience back. So we'll see.
Do you think it will still be successful with the changes?
I do. Because there is always a space for women – and men, because there are Loose Men as well. There is definitely a space for us to get our opinions out and help others. While there is somebody who needs helping or entertaining, there is always a space for Loose Women and Loose Men.

The show will be missed when it's not on during the summer holidays...
Yes, it won't air during the summer holidays and when Ascot and the racing is on, but we will just be bigger and better when we do come back. You've met so many celebrities on the show.

Who is the one person you still hope to meet?
Well, I would have loved to meet Whitney Houston, because she was my idol. I never got to do that, but I did get to see her in concert at Wembley.
What's your funniest celeb story so far?

I was playing the Killer Queen in the musical We Will Rock You in Manchester and Brian May came to play his guitar. He came from one side of the stage, Roger Taylor came from the back of the stage on the drums, and they collided. I tried to save Brian – I went to get his hand but he stopped me. He kept playing his guitar, because he's a rock star. In the words of Queen, The Show Must Go On.
You previously said you'd love to go on Strictly this year. Have they been in touch?
No, I haven't been asked yet. I have a few other exciting things lined up, but I can't say anything right now.

What about soaps? Would you ever consider a part on EastEnders?
Oh, I'd love it! If they came calling, of course I would. I'm a major fan and I've been watching it since it started. I love EastEnders – there is always a story there.

You could play Denise's cousin on the show…
I could. Let's manifest it! I could be Denise's long-lost cousin, and it actually turns out that I had the child, not Denise.
The X Factor changed the course of your life. Did y ou ever imagine you'd leave your old job in accounts and do what you're doing now?

I still go back to working in accounts when the jobs aren't coming in. If I haven't got any work on, I go back to temping. I've got a mortgage to pay. I'm not shy. Work is work and money is money. I've got to make my money even if I'm not doing anything on stage or on TV.
When was the last time you temped, then?
Just coming out of lockdown. I temped at Twickenham rugby ground and I worked in accounts payable. I've got my certificates, so I know how to do it. It's like riding a bike – you never forget. I'm not afraid of hard work. Bring it on!

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd's lavish wedding revealed as 'no expense spared'

Coronation Street actor Jack P Shepherd's wedding plans have finally been revealed just before he prepares to say 'I do' to his fiancée Hanni Treweek in front of his soap co-stars Jack P Shepherd is ready to say 'I do' to his fiancée and has made sure no expense has been spared to make their day perfect. The Coronation Street actor, 37, is set to marry Hanni Treweek this weekend in a lavish ceremony. ‌ They met on the set of the soap and got engaged in June 2024 while on a Tanzania safari trip. While on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, Jack revealed his plans to marry Hanni this summer. ‌ He managed to keep most of the details under wraps as he previously told the Mirror: "The wedding is this year. We're very excited. It's all done. ‌ "It's all paid for. It should be a really good day actually. I love a wedding. Absolutely love a wedding. Weddings and funerals." Now, it has been revealed that Jack is set to tie the knot at Manchester Cathedral surrounded by his Corrie co-stars. "Jack and Hanni are having their big white wedding at Manchester Cathedral on Saturday," a source told The Sun. "They have gone all out to make sure it's their dream day and there has been no expensed spared." ‌ They added: "It's a very grand setting getting wed at the cathedral, and it will be packed with guests, including many of Jack's Corrie co-stars." Jack and Hanni will then reportedly entertain their guests at the five-star Lowry hotel for their after party. The actor has soaked up the wedding planning, yet he did reveal one part he would leave out. He didn't have a stag do and didn't want one. A few months ago he admitted: "No, I don't like the idea of going on a stag do where someone just takes the p*** out of you all weekend and you're the butt of every joke and you have to dress up like a f***ing baby.' ‌ Hanni did have a mini hen party, however, as she headed for lunch and cocktails at The Ivy with her pals. She sipped on a 'Bride' straw while her mates donned masks with Jack's face on. "The non hen party party, two weeks before the wedding," Hanni shared. "25 years of a special friendship with these beautiful girlies, how lucky are we. "I love you all so much, thank you for throwing me a non hen party party it was perfect. The next time I see you I'll be walking down the aisle." ‌ The bride-to-be has also made sure the couple are dancefloor ready for their big day as she revealed they have been taking dance classes. She shared a snap of the pair in a dance studio and teased: "Hungover but dancing through as Mrs Shepherd to be." Hanni and Jack have been dating since 2017 and they decided to go public a year later. During an appearance on Loose Women, the couple discussed their future plans, including marriage and children. Hanni said: "I think we fell quite quickly and from that we just clicked, and we were on the same page, and you do have those conversations but yeah I think we would like to... in the future."

Speaking to Gay Times Magazine, John opened up about his experiences in the TV industry. The baker and presenter said: "I think the deeper conversation here is about welfare generally within the TV industry. I think that is still very much an elusive beast. "As soon as Strictly finishes, it's like, get out the hotel, get out the flat, go home, but that is a life- altering event for the individual who's been subject to the headlines, often at the hand of these shows, because these shows sometimes feed stories to the media. "TV is manipulative and it's a distortion of truth, there's always an ulterior motive. "People aren't being fed the unadulterated, objective truth. And I certainly don't subscribe to that." Continuing, John recounted how he was "around 23" during his time on Bake Off. He recalled thinking his "existence hinged on being successful in television." John added: "But I think when you go through all these different permutations of your life, you start to realise that the b******t just does not matter. "What actually matters is your health, your sanity, your loved ones, your family, be it biological or chosen." Strictly and OnlyFans star John Whaite opens up on health struggle, saying 'it makes life almost unbearable' Elsewhere in the interview, John revealed a family member had called him "disgusting" due to his OnlyFans content. The Sun previously revealed how he made a return to the platform earlier this year. The star had been posting a series of very explicit videos and images for his legion of subscribers on the adult-only website. Sources close to the star – who was paired with Johannes Radebe on Strictly - said: 'John has been telling friends he feels really empowered by posting what he wants. 'He's in amazing shape and is proud of how far he has come. 'He's says it really has nothing to do with money and it's not about helping fund his bakery business. 'John doesn't care what anyone else thinks. "He's really happy with the content he is creating.'

BREAKING: Gregg Wallace reveals how he feels about Rod Stewart after singer's 'tubby' swipe

Former MasterChef star Gregg Wallace has addressed comments made by Sir Rod Stewart and revealed what he really thinks of the legendary rocker. In December 2024, Sir Rod alleged that the presenter "humiliated" his wife Penny Lancaster on Celebrity MasterChef in 2021, following Wallace stepping away from the BBC programme while the show's production company Banijay UK investigates claims of misconduct. The veteran singer wrote: "So Greg Wallace gets fired from Master Chef. Good riddance Wallace… You humiliated my wife when she was on the show, but you had that bit cut out didn't you? You're a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully. Karma got ya. Sir Rod Stewart." Loose Women star Penny said the following month that that she did not know her husband was going to make accusations about Wallace's behaviour until she saw a post on Instagram. Gregg Wallace says 'I'm not a sex pest' as he slams 'horrific' reaction to his BBC axe Wallace, who was formally sacked from the BBC earlier this month following an inquiry into his alleged misconduct, has now discussed Sir Rod and Penny's comments. In an interview with The Sun, where he also reveals how he feels about his former co-host John Torode's MasterChef exit, Wallace said: "I'm actually a Rod Stewart fan. I've been to see him twice. So that hurt me. Somebody like that carries a lot of weight. But there was no bullying and no harassing." Speaking about Sir Rod's Instagram post on Loose Women in December, Penny admitted: "I didn't realise my husband had sent that post out until it was out. And of course, you can imagine the influx of inquiries there were. "I most definitely was witness and victim to some of the bullying and harassment behaviour of Gregg Wallace, and unfortunately, a lot of those involved in the production team were also witness to that, and I really feel that he used his position of power to, I believe, intimidate and cause distress to a lot of people on set. "And it's really unfortunate that someone like him is allowed to get away with that, and while others sort of stand by and let it happen at the same time." She added that she was 'in shock' by Sir Rod's message, recalling: "I felt a little bit vindicated that something was put out there, going back to sort of that whole Me Too (movement), it's shocking to think how many women do suffer in the hands of… (men) in a powerful position and are too afraid to talk out. "They don't feel at the time that they're going to be supported or listened to. So sometimes it can take a few years later for someone to mention something. It gives the other victims and people that have suffered the confidence to come forward." Following the BBC confirming his exit from MasterChef earlier this month, in the wake of a report that saw 45 out of 83 allegations made against him upheld, Wallace said: "For eight months, my family and I have lived under a cloud. Trial by media, fuelled by rumour and clickbait. "None of the serious allegations against me were upheld. I challenged the remaining issue of unwanted touching but have had to accept a difference in perception, and I am deeply sorry for any distress caused. It was never intended." The report found that the "majority of the allegations against Mr Wallace (94%) related to behaviour which is said to have occurred between 2005 and 2018', with only one allegation substantiated after 2018. It also concluded that the 'majority of the substantiated allegations against Mr Wallace related to inappropriate sexual language and humour', adding that 'a smaller number of allegations of other inappropriate language and being in a state of undress were also substantiated', with 'one incident of unwelcome physical contact' also substantiated. The report noted that during the course of the investigation, which was over a seven-month period, Wallace was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, and said that the findings should be viewed in the context of his neurodiversity. In his statement, Wallace added: 'I'm relieved that the Banijay report fully recognises that my behaviour changed profoundly in 2018. Some of my humour and language missed the mark. I never set out to harm or humiliate. I always tried to bring warmth and support to MasterChef, on screen and off. 'After nearly 20 years on the show, I now see that certain patterns, shaped by traits I've only recently begun to understand, may have been misread. I also accept that more could have been done, by others and by myself, to address concerns earlier.' 'A late autism diagnosis has helped me understand how I communicate and how I'm perceived. I'm still learning.'
