Pau Cubarsi to return to Barcelona after suffering ankle injury on Spain duty
The 18-year-old was forced off in the 41st minute of Spain's 2-2 draw in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final against the Netherlands on Thursday. He went down holding his ankle and received treatment on the pitch.

Cubarsi was replaced by Dutch-born Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, who was making his senior international debut.
Spain have confirmed Cubarsi will not part of the squad for the return leg against the Netherlands on Sunday and is returning to his club. Lazio centre-back Mario Gila has replaced him.
A statement from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Friday read: 'After scans conducted, Spanish FA have decided Pau Cubarsi returns to his club, FC Barcelona, to start recovery from the problems he had in his right ankle and that prevented him from completing last game against the Netherlands.'
Any kind of significant injury would be a blow to Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick, who has seen Cubarsi form an impressive partnership with Inigo Martinez in central defence, but there is hope within the club that the teenager will be fit to face Osasuna on Thursday, March 27.
La Liga Barcelona leaders then take on Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final on April 2 and play Borussia Dortmund in a Champions League quarter-final first leg a week later.
Cubarsi made his first team debut for the Catalan club in January 2024 and went on to establish himself as a first-team regular in the remainder of the season, making 19 La Liga appearances, and received his first senior cap for Spain in March.
He turned 18 in January, which enabled him to sign a longer-term contract with Barcelona until 2029. Cubarsi has been a fixture of Flick's side this season, making 42 appearances in all competitions.

La Liga Soccer: Livestream Every Game of the 2025-26 Season From Anywhere
The race for the Spanish top flight restarts as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético prepare for another fierce title battle in La Liga. Below, we'll outline the best live TV streaming services to use to watch the 2025/26 soccer La Liga season as it happens, wherever you are in the world, and how to use a VPN if the match isn't available there. Handi Flick's first season in charge at FC Barcelona was one to remember, with the German coach guiding the Catalan giants to a domestic double. Unsurprisingly, the Blaugrana haven't made much in the way of major changes to their squad during the summer, with goalkeeper Joan García and highly touted young winger Roony Bardghji joining alongside loan star Marcus Rashford. Barça's eternal rival Real Madrid, by contrast, has entered a new era under the leadership of former Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, who replaced Carlo Ancelotti as head coach. Last season's underwhelming campaign has prompted some big signings to complement the likes of Galácticos Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alvaro Carreras and Dean Huijsen moving to the Bernabeu. Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, will be once again hoping to close the gap on the top two, while Athletic Bilbao, Getafe and Villarreal will be looking to build on impressive top-five finishes last term. The new campaign also sees Levante, Elche and Real Oviedo joining from Segunda Division, with the latter making their return to the top flight for the first time in 24 years. The new season kicked off on Aug. 15, with the final fixtures set to played on Sunday, May 24, 2025. Real Madrid and Barcelona have dominated La Liga, winning 36 and 28 titles respectively. IonHow to watch La Liga in the US without cable As with last season, all Spanish top-flight games will be available to stream in the US via ESPN Plus, which has live English- and Spanish-language broadcast rights for La Liga in the US. Select games will also be broadcast on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN Deportes, throughout the season. It's worth noting that ESPN is launching an all-new standalone streaming service later this month. How to watch the La Liga from anywhere with a VPN If you find yourself unable to view La Liga matches locally, you may need a different way to watch the games -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on game day by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins. With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the game. Most VPNs, like our Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN, make it really easy to do this. Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions. Official: Gutierrez completes Napoli transfer from Girona for 20m
Napoli have officially signed Miguel Gutierrez from Girona FC on a permanent basis for a reported fee of €20m including add-ons. The left-back had arrived on Monday morning to start his medical tests at the Villa Stuart sports clinic in Rome. Once those were completed, he put pen to paper on a five-year contract. His arrival was announced first, as is traditional at Napoli now, by President Aurelio De Laurentiis on social media. Moments later, the formal statement was published on the club website. Napoli add Gutierrez to squad Girona's Miguel Gutierrez celebrates after scoring the 1-0 goal during the Champions League soccer match between Girona FC and Slovan Bratislava, in Girona, Catalonia, Spain 22 October 2024. EPA-EFE/DAVID BORRAT Gutierrez just turned 24 last month and was a regular for the Spain Under-21 side, playing a key part in the Olympic squad too. A product of the Real Madrid youth academy, he was sold to Girona for €4m in 2022 and flourished. The cost of the transfer is reported to be €18m plus a further €2m in add-ons, but Girona will only get 50 per cent of that, the rest going to Real Madrid. Medical tests were particularly important, as he sustained an ankle injury in May that required surgery.

Liverpool target Alexander Isak makes decision as Newcastle starts transfer talks
Newcastle's forward, Alexander Isak, has decided to give the Professional Footballers' Association's (PFA) awards gala a miss despite being in contention for a top honor. The Swedish international, who has been nominated for the Players' Player of the Year award, is rumored to be staying away amid speculation about his future. Isak has allegedly informed Newcastle that he has played his last Premier League game for the club, even though the Magpies have rejected an offer from Liverpool. A fresh bid from Liverpool could be on the cards before the transfer deadline, but Eddie Howe's club is keen to secure two more forwards before sanctioning any departure. On Tuesday, it emerged that Newcastle has opened talks with Wolves over a deal for Jorgen Strand Larsen, who could potentially replace Isak in the starting XI. READ MORE: Liverpool transfer news as cult hero 'accelerates' exit after new signings READ MORE: 'I won trophies at Liverpool - but now my sons play for Manchester City' Isak is one of six contenders for the Players' Player of the Year award, alongside Bruno Fernandes, Alexis Mac Allister, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, and Mohamed Salah. However, as per BBC Sport, Isak had not confirmed his presence at the awards ceremony barely 24 hours prior to its scheduled start time on Tuesday. Salah is widely expected to win the award after firing Liverpool to the Premier League title. Last year, the coveted award was won by Phil Foden at the ceremony held in Manchester. The England international, who had just helped Manchester City clinch the league title with a career-best 19 goals, accepted his award in person. The BBC's report suggests that previous winners and nominees have often left it late to confirm their attendance. However, the broadcaster also quotes unnamed sources suggesting that Isak does not plan to attend. Isak's performances last term left him highly sought-after during the early stages of the summer transfer window. The striker concluded the season with 23 league goals and 27 across all competitions - both personal records - helping Newcastle secure Champions League qualification. Liverpool's opening offer was turned down by Newcastle. The forward remains intent on departing, however, and was omitted from manager Howe's matchday squad for the Premier League curtain-raiser against Aston Villa. "I hope it's resolved quickly, because it's news around us all the time," Howe told TNT Sports following the scoreless stalemate at Villa Park. "Players have managed to shut that out and perform. "We have to continue to do that. We have to cope without the narrative against us." Newcastle's next game happens to be against Liverpool at St. James' Park. The Reds didn't face significant difficulties finding the net in their opener, with new signing Hugo Ekitike scoring in a 4-2 triumph over Bournemouth. Ekitike was among the forwards on Newcastle's radar before his switch to Anfield, but the club has alternative targets, as it prepares for Isak's potential departure. Brentford's Yoane Wissa and Paris Saint-Germain's Goncalo Ramos are both under consideration, with either capable of arriving on Tyneside before the transfer window closes on September 1.
