IT services firms are now focusing on AI agents, as clients across sectors demand agents that can effectively communicate as well as enhance productivity. Agentic AI can operate independently, make decisions and also initiate workflows. It uses reasoning and autonomously solves complex issues. Tata Consultancy Services chairman N Chandrasekaran in his letter to shareholders said that the company is establishing a large pool of AI agents working alongside the human workforce. The company said in its FY25 annual report that AI is transitioning from single-purpose solutions to Agentic AI to solve complex business problems. Infosys has launched over 200 enterprise AI agents that are part of Infosys Topaz AI offerings. The company said the AI agents are designed to drive tangible outcomes for enterprises by transforming complex workflows and managing intricate, multi-agent business operations efficiently at scale. 'These enterprise AI agents cater to multiple sectors, including healthcare, finance, retail, telecom, manufacturing, and agriculture. Leveraging advanced machine learning and cognitive architecture, the agents are equipped with powerful capabilities such as data extraction to transform raw inputs into actionable insights and multimodal functionality to handle diverse data types effectively,' the company added. For instance, Infosys said, in the area of predictive network capacity planning, a monitoring agent continuously tracks real-time network capacity and alerts for any immediate concerns. The company added that in the manufacturing domain, a forecasting agent uses real-time data to predict demand for vehicle parts, thus optimising inventory and managing the supply chain. Balakrishna D R (Bali), executive vice-president, global services head, AI and industry verticals, at Infosys, said: 'The development of more than 200 enterprise AI agents marks a milestone in our continued efforts to innovate and lead in the enterprise AI space. "Toxic And Hate Monger": Mohandas Pai Slams Hotmail's Sabeer Bhatia For His Remarks On India's GDP

Former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai has hit back at Hotmail co-founder Sabeer Bhatia for his post questioning whether Indians could feel the impact of the country becoming the fourth-largest economy after surpassing Japan. It all started after Mr Bhatia shared a video showing slumps, poor drainage systems and even white foam that forms in Delhi's Yamuna, causing concern each year. "We overtook Japan in can you feel it in your pocket? Growth without distribution is just inflation in disguise," he wrote in the caption of the post. Reposting the X post, Mr Pai called Mr Bhatia an "economic refugee" and said that he has no standing to comment on the country's progress since he left the country years ago. "Man Sabeer Bhatia you are an economic refugee, left India long ago. Good riddance to bad rubbish. You had no role in India's progress. So stop pontificating and shut up. We will grow India and build our future. We do not need you. You are toxic and a hate monger," he wrote. Man @sabeer you are an economic refugee, left India long ago. Good riddance to bad rubbish. You had no role in India's progress. So stop pontificating and shut up. We will grow India and build our future. We do not need you. You are toxic and a hate monger. — Mohandas Pai (@TVMohandasPai) May 30, 2025 In his post, Mr Bhatia spoke about the quality of life in India. "The reason I have come out and criticised the overall GDP over that of Japan is for this reason. I have been getting a lot of backlash on my Twitter account but I'm still doing it because I love India and I love each and every one of you. I really care about India and I want it to be an India that improves the lives of all of its citizens, especially the ones right at the bottom of the pyramid. If we can change their lives, all the other numbers automatically take care of themselves," he said in the clip. The Hotmail co-founder also listed how he thinks India can be better. He believes that real progress lies in mass education and empowering people through critical thinking. "Just mass educate the entire population of the country. Today, that is possible with the help of AI. But if we stick to rote learning, memorisation, and chasing exam scores, that is completely useless," he said. Meanwhile, Mr Bhatia and Mr Pai's X interaction has sparked discussion online, with many users agreeing with the former Infosys CFO. "Dear @sabeer, you were a hero to us when we were young, you sold the story of the great American dream with the sale of #Hotmail. However, we are now through with Nostalgia. There are better role models for us here in India. More humble, more giving back to Indian society. I believe they are the real heroes we Indians admire because they did what you couldn't here. So, please stop this narrative, do some real work here in India. Do #meaningful #real. Start a #fund," wrote one user. "I get your point, Sabeer, and improvement in GDP per capita growth will happen once we realise India's full potential across services and product space. So, let's be optimistic, support the movement, and celebrate the milestone without losing momentum," commented another.

How agentic AI is rewiring BFSI workflows

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the financial sector has been growing significantly over the past 24 months, but as we move forward, the applications are moving towards more automated, intuitive enablement across the board. After Generative AI, Agentic AI is leading this revolution with the ability to make autonomous decisions and carry out complex tasks without constant human guidance. Unlike traditional AI which reacts to human- fed input, agentic AI decides autonomously what action to take, plans multi-step workflows, and adapts in real Agentic AI Matters: The shift we discussed is a fundamental upgrade to BFSI's operational core. Traditional AI has excelled at analyzing data or identifying patterns. Agentic AI, however, takes a fundamentally different approach. It generates collections of independent AI agents that collaborate through sophisticated reasoning and planning mechanisms to resolve multi-step problems, with large language models serving as their "decision-makers". In simple words it is designed to work more like humans by handling tasks independently. Consider a compliance check scenario. Where a traditional system may trigger a transaction to be reviewed by a person, an Agentic AI system could not only initiate it but separately gather additional context from adjacent accounts and external data sources, analyze the risk in real-time, and clear the transaction automatically or escalate it with a complete summary. All without waiting for a human to initiate the manual check that follows. Agentic AI in Action: Agentic AI has a deep impact and has the potential to drive change across an extensive range of BFSI processes, from customer-facing processes to sophisticated back-office procedures. The following examples reflect how this technology is rewiring processes in some of the most important areas: Streamlining Lending Decisions: Agentic AI is beginning to fundamentally accelerate the loan application journey. Lengthy manual reviews and sequential checks keep applicants waiting. Emerging Agentic systems are showing the capacity to autonomously orchestrate the complex process of gathering data from diverse sources, performing rapid, intelligent analysis, and making decisions or recommendations. This rewires lending from a bottlenecked process into a swift and significantly faster experience for both the institution and the customer. Dynamic Underwriting: Particularly relevant in the insurance sector, Agentic AI is poised to transform underwriting from a static, point-in-time assessment to a dynamic continuous process. These systems autonomously gather and analyze real-time data, beyond traditional application forms allowing for more accurate risk assessment throughout the policy lifecycle. This leads to faster policy issuance, more precise pricing, and the capability to offer highly personalized coverage that can adapt to changing circumstances, fundamentally reshaping how risk is evaluated and managed. Enhancing Fraud Detection and Security: Agentic AI is driving a shift in fraud detection from reactive to proactive. By learning from real-time transactional data and behavioral trends in real time, such systems can identify minor inconsistencies and anticipate changing threats. After detection, they can trigger immediate, multi-step security actions like blocking suspicious transactions or freezing accounts faster than human intervention can, significantly reducing fraud losses. The Road Ahead: Risks, Ethics, and Governance: As Agentic AI becomes deeply embedded in core BFSI workflows, its inherent risks and ethical implications need to be addressed. Autonomous systems power poses challenges such as preventing algorithmic bias that could lead to unfair outcomes. Second, ensuring transparency and accountability for decisions made by Agentic AI, because it can be difficult to understand exactly why AI made a specific decision- this is known as the 'black box issue'. It is important for regulatory rules and customer trust. Successfully charting this course requires robust governance, including clear internal policies, continuous monitoring, and essential human oversight, all supported by proactive regulatory frameworks. To conclude, this technology holds significant promise for advancing financial inclusion, particularly in emerging economies. By enabling FinTech and traditional banking infrastructure that face limitations. By providing cost-effective means for the financial institutes to reach previously underserved communities, Agentic AI can open doors to essential financial services, pointing towards a more inclusive and digitally advanced future for the global financial system.
