Lucknow: Taking a jibe at govt's 'Vision 2047' document, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said the BJP should instead come out with a 'Reason Document' to explain why the party failed to fulfill a single promise that it had made in run up to previous elections in the past decade.
The BJP govt tabled its 'Vision 2047' document before the UP assembly on Wednesday afternoon for debate in a special 24-hour long marathon session that will conclude on Thursday.
"The only 'vision' that the BJP has is ways to mislead the people, spread hatred among different communities and use govt projects to feed corruption and destroy constitutional institutions," he said.
The former UP CM said: "People of the state are waiting for the BJP and its associates to present a detailed account of reasons behind the party and govt's failure to fulfil even a single promise that they have made before the elections in the past 10 years.
The BJP has no place to hide. This 'Vision document' is another plot to sell dreams to the people."
He cited promises like doubling the income of farmers, jobs for youth, free electricity for farmers and pointed out that healthcare infra-structure, law and order machinery and education sector were in shambles and schools are being closed.
"The fact remains that BJP does not have any vision whatsoever for the future of the people in UP.

If they had any vision for a better future, they would have set-up power stations, improved roads and built dams to contain floods. But nothing has happened at any of these fronts," the SP president said.
"BJP's politics of hate and discrimination has led to discontent among people. People have seen through the destructive work culture of the BJP where injustice and exploitation is at its extreme. Justice is elusive for every section of the society. The situation has come to a pass that the BJP is scared to face the people of the state," the SP chief said. He said instead of working for the betterment of the poor, the BJP had taken steps which had hit the deprived and the neglected the hardest.
"All govt departments are being sold off to private entities. Government educational institutes are being shut to pave way for private ones to systematically do away with reservation in jobs," he said.

‘3,000 bighas? Is this a joke': Gauhati HC baulks at land allotment to cement firm in tribal district

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court, in a hearing last week, expressed shock over the allotment of 3,000 bighas (around 4 square kilometers) of land to a private cement company in Assam's Dima Hasao district. '3,000 bighas? What is going on? 3,000 bighas allotted to a private company?' Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi said during a recent hearing, a video of which has gone viral on social media. When G Goswami, counsel for Mahabal Cements, argued, 'It's a barren land,' Justice Medhi retorted, 'We know how barren is NC Hills. 3,000 bighas? What kind of a decision is this? Is this some kind of a joke or what?' At this, the counsel said, 'We need it,' but the judge responded, 'Your need is not the issue. Public interest is the issue.' A batch of petitions has been filed by local villagers resisting eviction. The company has also filed one seeking protection, alleging that miscreants were interfering with its operations. Dima Hasao, a hill district, is administered by the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. The BJP-ruled council approved the land allotment. In its order of August 12, the court said that a cursory glance at the case revealed the land sought to be allotted was about 3,000 bighas, which 'itself appeared to be extraordinary.' It directed the council to produce relevant records, including the policy under which such a large tract of land could be allotted to a factory. 'The aforesaid direction has been given by taking into account that the district is a Sixth Schedule district under the Constitution of India where the priority has to be given to the rights and interest of the tribal people residing there,' the order said. The court noted that the area in question, Umrangso, is recognised as an environmental hotspot with hot springs, migratory bird stopovers and wildlife.

Country will ask for affidavit from Election Commission of India: Rahul Gandhi

A day after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar gave an ultimatum to Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to file an affidavit regarding his allegations of voter roll manipulations in Karnataka within a week, the Congress leader hit back at the CEC saying that 'the entire country will ask for an affidavit from the Election Commission of India'. 'A day will come when the INDIA bloc will have a government in Bihar as well in the Centre. Then action would be taken. Election Commissioner, you understand it very well, that if you will not do your job properly, then strict action is going to be taken against you,' Mr. Gandhi, who is on his 'Voter Adhikar Yatra', said at a rally in Gaya district on Monday (August 18, 2025). 'Election Commission has said that if I do not give an affidavit in one week then what I said is baseless. Wait for some time, the entire country will ask for an affidavit from it. We will reveal vote theft in every State. SIR is a new way to steal votes,' he alleged. The Congress leader urged the crowd to prevent 'vote theft' in the upcoming Bihar Assembly election. Mr. Gandhi said 'the people of Bihar will teach a lesson' to the poll body and Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'if they attempt vote theft' in the State. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, while addressing the rally, said the CEC has taken 'membership of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'. 'We have to throw out the BJP who are cunning people... CEC Gyanesh Kumar should tell whether he has taken a membership of BJP. Whatever instructions come from the PMO and Narendra Modi, Gyanesh Kumar speaks,' he said. Mr. Yadav urged the people to support the Grand Alliance in Bihar to form the government. He credited Mr. Gandhi with 'destroying' the alleged 'design of the BJP' to remove the names of the voters from the draft rolls. Earlier in the day, Mr. Gandhi, along with INDIA bloc leaders, resumed their march from Kutuma in Aurangabad district after visiting the Sun Temple in Deo. They took out a roadshow in Aurangabad where a large number of party workers and supporters joined in raising slogans against SIR, the poll body, Mr. Modi and the BJP. Mr. Gandhi, Mr. Yadav, CPI (ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya and Vikassheel Insaan Party chief Mukesh Sahani interacted with people who had voted in the last few elections but whose names have been struck off the draft rolls. In a message on X, Mr. Gandhi said, 'Those who voted in the last 4-5 elections, their votes were also stolen in Bihar. And, when the reason was asked, only one answer was given - orders came from above. This is a fight for the rights of the poor - we will not stop. We will put an end to vote theft.'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gets dressing down before White House meeting, virtually told to surrender

The TOI correspondent from Washington: MAGA supremo Donald Trump has bluntly told Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of their White House meeting on Monday afternoon to give up territory his country has lost to Russia and forget about joining Nato. In what is virtually a "surrender or die" message to Zelenskyy, Trump said the Ukrainian leader "can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight." "Remember how it started. No getting back Obama given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE. Some things never change!!!" he said on his "Truth Social" network, implicitly endorsing Russia's position and blaming his predecessors for the crisis. The dressing down -- amid reports Zelenskyy has been asked to "suit up" for the White House meeting -- came just hours before crucial talks on Monday afternoon with the fate of his country at stake, with his supporting cast of European leaders waiting in the wings to join the confabulations. But the gaggle of leaders who see Russia as a perpetual threat seem to have reconciled to Trump's Moscow-mandated terms, with talks now expected to center on unspecified "robust security guarantees" US interlocutors have promised for Ukraine (or what remains of it) if it ends the war. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Instant Renewal, Instant Savings – Only with Acko Acko Car Insurance Sign Up Undo They want the guarantees to be legislatively binding and conforming to Article 5 of Nato treaty that obligates all alliance members to defend any member who is attacked, which would make Ukraine a de facto Nato member. Trump seemed to revel in the global focus on the White House ahead of the meeting, gloating, 'We have never had so many European Leaders here at one time. A great honor for America!!! Lets see what the results will be???' He also posted long tortured screeds blaming "the Fake News Media and their Democrat Partners" for not allowing him to settle the war and questioning his judgment, according to which Russia is also having to make sacrifices. "I've settled 6 Wars in 6 months, one of them a possible Nuclear disaster... I know exactly what I'm doing, and I don't need the advice of people who have been working on all of these conflicts for years, and were never able to do a thing to stop them. They are 'STUPID' people, with no common sense, intelligence, or understanding, and they only make the current R/U disaster more difficult to FIX. Despite all of my lightweight and very jealous critics, I'll get it done — I always do!!!" he raged. While New Delhi -- and much of the world will keep an anxious eye on the outcome of the White House meeting, it is increasingly apparent that purchase of Russian oil is not the only issue bedeviling US-India ties. Openly voicing Washington's duplicity on the Russian oil issue, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a TV interview on Sunday that "sanctioning China (for purchase of Russian oil) would push global oil prices higher," the same logic applied to India's purchase of Russian oil. Other administration officials have suggested the reason for the differential treatment is that Beijing has leverage, implicitly suggesting New Delhi does not. Trump himself has expressed irritation about the BRICS agenda which he thinks involves ditchign the US dollar and reserve currency and US companies shifting manufacturing jobs to India. So even in the event of a best case scenario of a Russia-Ukraine truce or peace deal emerging from the White House talks on Monday, India may escape the 25 per cent penalty, but the 25 per cent tariff will remain in place.
