Jaipur: The decomposed bodies of a 67-year-old retired army man and his wife were discovered inside their home in Muktaprasad Colony of Bikaner town on Tuesday, in what police believe is a suspected double murder.
Officers said the bodies appeared to be at least three days old, and preliminary findings from the postmortem suggest the couple may have been strangled. A man who was living in the house as a tenant was detained for questioning.
Police identified the victims as Gopal Verma and his 62-year-old wife, Nirmala Verma. The couple lived alone in their house in Sector 4/11. Both their sons work in different multinational companies.
One of them live in Noida, while the other lives in Canada. According to police, Gopal Verma's son, who lives in Noida, repeatedly tried to call them but received no response. Concerned, he asked his uncle who lives nearby, to check on them.
The uncle found the house locked and no one answered his knocks, prompting him to call the police. Officers arrived and broke open the lock, discovering the two bodies lying in the living room.

Police said the interior of the house was in disarray, with household items scattered, and the main door was locked from the outside. This raised strong suspicion of murder and possibly robbery. Forensic teams and a dog squad were brought in to examine the scene for evidence. Neighbours told police they last saw the couple on Sunday while they were at a nearby park.
Investigators found a bag and some personal items in a room on the first floor, suggesting that part of the house may have been rented out without proper verification.
Relatives in the town expressed suspicion about a former tenant, who has since been detained. "Prima facie, it seems the crime took place on Sunday. A long scarf appears to have been used to strangle the couple," an officer said.
SP Bikaner Saurabh Tiwari said a man was detained and police are verifying the background of all former tenants. Local residents, joined by some public representatives, staged a sit-in on Tuesday demanding immediate arrests. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

MP horror: 13-year-old boy sodomised, forced into oral sex on school's campus; 2 detained
Representative Image (AI) NEW DELHI: Two teenagers have been detained in Madhya Pradesh's Indore for allegedly sodomising a 13-year-old boy and forcing him to perform oral sex, police said on Saturday. According to news agency PTI, the incident took place on Thursday when the boy was playing on an open ground within the premises of a school in the city's Annapurna area. 'The incident occurred on Thursday when the victim was playing on an open ground in the school's campus, when the accused sodomised him and forced him to perform oral sex,' said Ajay Nair, station house officer of Annapurna police station. He added that the accused—aged 16 and 17—were not students of the school. 'One of them was a mechanic, and children living in the vicinity often played on the open campus.' The teenagers have been sent to a correctional facility. A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police said. The victim's family reportedly faced major hurdles in getting the mandatory swab test conducted after the FIR was filed. They were first sent to the district hospital, where staff allegedly told them the test facility was unavailable. They then approached the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), but the test could still not be conducted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mr. Chirag's Ultimate Option Selling Strategy – The Key to Success TradeWise Learn More Undo The test was eventually done at the government-run MY Hospital, reportedly 17 hours after the FIR was filed.
