In a statement, the government said that Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project represents a significant advancement in the city's
infrastructure development
, marking a major expansion of the Metro rail network in the state capital.
The new corridor will introduce approximately 11.165 km of new Metro lines with 12 stations -- seven underground and five elevated -- improving
public transportation
in the oldest and the most densely-populated areas of the city, which currently lack efficient connectivity, the statement said.

This phase aims to seamlessly integrate the key zones of Old Lucknow, including commercial hubs such as Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj and Chowk, it said.
It will also integrate the other key zones such as the King George's Medical University (Medical College) and major tourist attractions such as Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Bhool Bhulaiya, Clock Tower, and Rumi Darwaza, besides the culinary destinations in a city known rich and historic food culture, the statement said.
"By bridging these vital areas with the Metro network, Phase-1B will not only enhance connectivity but also stimulate economic activity, tourism, and ease
urban mobility
for both residents and visitors," it said.
The Phase-1B of the project promises to deliver enhanced connectivity, reduced traffic congestion, environmental benefits,
economic growth
, and improved quality of life.
By addressing key urban challenges and providing a foundation for future expansion, Phase-1B will play a crucial role in shaping the city's development trajectory and sustainability, the statement said. PTI

"This is purely the fault of the Election Commission," she told a television news channel. "My year of birth is 1990 and I submitted the documents online, but now everyone is asking about my age." Karnataka HC dismisses PIL seeking continuation of NEP 2020
Bengaluru: The Karnataka high court Tuesday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the state govt to continue with the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, in terms of the order dated Aug 7, 2021, issued by the previous BJP govt. Bengaluru-based advocates Girish Bharadwaj and R Ananda Murthy had challenged the Oct 11, 2023 order passed by the Congress govt for the constitution of a commission to draft the state education policy (SEP), claiming the decision was perverse and without jurisdiction. Incidentally, the commission submitted the draft SEP to chief minister Siddaramaiah last week. Home minister calls addiction to online gaming worse than drugs, govt plans fresh curbs
Bengaluru: The govt will decide on regulating the online gaming sector based on recommendations of a committee headed by IPS officer Pranab Mohanty, home minister G Parameshwara told the assembly Tuesday. The committee, set up in April, is expected to submit its report in Sept. Responding to a question from BJP's S Suresh Kumar during question hour, Parameshwara said he had met representatives of online gaming companies and sought their cooperation in framing regulations to safeguard public. "They have agreed," he said, while suggesting online games were more dangerous than drugs. Parameshwara acknowledged concerns about addiction, especially among youth. He cited police data showing 347 cases of online betting registered in the state since 2023 — 84 cases in 2023, 104 in 2024, and 159 up to July 31 this year. Ballari district reported the highest number, at 73 cases. There's a 28% GST on online gaming. So, games are being hosted on foreign servers. This makes it difficult for us to take action if there's fraud." Priyank said India has 519 million gamers, including 140 million paid gamers, and projected the online gaming business to grow from $4.5 billion to $9 billion within three years.
