In a statement, the government said that Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project represents a significant advancement in the city's
infrastructure development
, marking a major expansion of the Metro rail network in the state capital.
The new corridor will introduce approximately 11.165 km of new Metro lines with 12 stations -- seven underground and five elevated -- improving
public transportation
in the oldest and the most densely-populated areas of the city, which currently lack efficient connectivity, the statement said.
Live Events
This phase aims to seamlessly integrate the key zones of Old Lucknow, including commercial hubs such as Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj and Chowk, it said.
It will also integrate the other key zones such as the King George's Medical University (Medical College) and major tourist attractions such as Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Bhool Bhulaiya, Clock Tower, and Rumi Darwaza, besides the culinary destinations in a city known rich and historic food culture, the statement said.
"By bridging these vital areas with the Metro network, Phase-1B will not only enhance connectivity but also stimulate economic activity, tourism, and ease
urban mobility
for both residents and visitors," it said.
The Phase-1B of the project promises to deliver enhanced connectivity, reduced traffic congestion, environmental benefits,
economic growth
, and improved quality of life.
By addressing key urban challenges and providing a foundation for future expansion, Phase-1B will play a crucial role in shaping the city's development trajectory and sustainability, the statement said. PTI

‘Supercentenarians' puzzle EC;124-year-old turns out to be 35
1 2 3 Patna: Bihar's ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has produced a mix of bafflement, amusement and embarrassment — from confirmed cases of voters aged well over a century to a clerical blunder that turned a 35-year-old into a supposed 124-year-old icon of political protest. According to the Election Commission , officials engaged in the SIR drive recently identified two women electors who are 120 and 119 years old, living in Bhagalpur and Gopalganj districts respectively. In Bhagalpur's Pirpainti assembly constituency, 120-year-old Asha Devi was found "alive, with wrinkles all over her face" after initial doubts about her age. Deputy election officials ordered a verification, during which BLO Farzana Khatoon checked her Aadhaar card and spoke to villagers. "During the inquiry, Asha Devi was found alive, and her age is 120," Khatoon wrote in her report. Similarly, in Gopalganj's Barauli constituency, 119-year-old Manturia Devi's age was confirmed through physical verification in the presence of the BLO and an observer. The assistant electoral registration officer stated in his letter that her reported age "was found correct". Interestingly, Ethel Caterham, a 115-year-old British woman, currently holds the title of the world's oldest living person. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Secret Lives of the Romanovs — the Last Rulers of Imperial Russia! Minta Devi of Daraundha constituency, celebrated by opposition MPs as a "124-year-old voter" during their "vote-chori" protest in Parliament, is in fact just 35. Her apparent longevity was the result of a voter ID slip that recorded her birth year as 1900 instead of 1990. "This is purely the fault of the Election Commission," she told a television news channel. "My year of birth is 1990 and I submitted the documents online, but now everyone is asking about my age." She admitted she had not checked her card when it arrived. "When the controversy broke out, I took out the card and found '15-07-1900' printed as my date of birth," she said. Her husband's name had even been placed in the 'house number' field. Siwan DM Aditya Prakash called it a "typographical error" caused when "she cited 1990 as her year of birth and this changed to 1900 due to a typo error by the computer operator". The correction, he said, "will be done within a week". Deputy election officer Sohail Ahmad confirmed she had applied through Form 6 and assured the error "will be disposed of within the stipulated time." Karnataka HC dismisses PIL seeking continuation of NEP 2020
Bengaluru: The Karnataka high court Tuesday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the state govt to continue with the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, in terms of the order dated Aug 7, 2021, issued by the previous BJP govt. Bengaluru-based advocates Girish Bharadwaj and R Ananda Murthy had challenged the Oct 11, 2023 order passed by the Congress govt for the constitution of a commission to draft the state education policy (SEP), claiming the decision was perverse and without jurisdiction. Incidentally, the commission submitted the draft SEP to chief minister Siddaramaiah last week. "We are unable to accept any intervention by the courts is required in a matter of policy. It would not be appropriate for the court to exercise its power under Article 226 of the Constitution of India unless it is established in the petition that fundamental rights or statutory rights are violated," a division bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice Ramachandra D Huddar observed in their order. Withdrawing NEP 2020 for no reason will create confusion among stakeholders like institutions, universities, students, and parents, the petitioners said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Best Method for a Flat Stomach After 50 (It's Genius!) Accordingly, the Union of India, exercising its power, introduced the National Education Policy 2020. "When such being the case, the respondent state authorities, without assigning any reasons, have mechanically decided to withdraw the implementation of NEP 2020, which was already implemented in the state from the academic year 2021-22," they added. The petitioners also objected to the commission set up by the state govt, claiming it did not meet the standards and criteria as that of the committee that framed NEP 2020. The state commission, they argued, does not have adequate representation from various sectors and fields for providing valuable inputs in framing the new policy. Home minister calls addiction to online gaming worse than drugs, govt plans fresh curbs
Bengaluru: The govt will decide on regulating the online gaming sector based on recommendations of a committee headed by IPS officer Pranab Mohanty, home minister G Parameshwara told the assembly Tuesday. The committee, set up in April, is expected to submit its report in Sept. Responding to a question from BJP's S Suresh Kumar during question hour, Parameshwara said he had met representatives of online gaming companies and sought their cooperation in framing regulations to safeguard public. "They have agreed," he said, while suggesting online games were more dangerous than drugs. Parameshwara acknowledged concerns about addiction, especially among youth. He cited police data showing 347 cases of online betting registered in the state since 2023 — 84 cases in 2023, 104 in 2024, and 159 up to July 31 this year. Ballari district reported the highest number, at 73 cases. These games are enough," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia Solar Panels: See How Much It Will Cost To Install Them (See Prices) Solar Panel | Search Ads Learn More Undo Highlighting aggressive marketing, he said: "I received a message that my wallet has been credited with Rs 1.6 lakh and I can play rummy. The legal tussle over online gaming began in 2021, when the previous BJP govt amended the Karnataka Police Act to prohibit online games. The high court struck down the amendments in 2022, after which the state challenged the verdict in the Supreme Court. Parameshwara said the "comprehensive" changes were contested by the All India Gaming Federation, adding: "We need to define games of skill and chance, whose need wasn't anticipated when the law was amended. " CN Ashwath Narayan of BJP urged the govt to ban betting even in games of skill. In response, IT-BT minister Priyank Kharge said: "Even fantasy sports were put under the skill game category by the court. The Union and state govt must work together on a law. There's a 28% GST on online gaming. So, games are being hosted on foreign servers. This makes it difficult for us to take action if there's fraud." Priyank said India has 519 million gamers, including 140 million paid gamers, and projected the online gaming business to grow from $4.5 billion to $9 billion within three years.
