Falling tree crushes car near Seri Iskandar, but baby and parents make it out safely
Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director of operations, Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the department received a distress call at about 6pm, and a team of 17 firefighters was immediately dispatched to the scene.
'Upon arrival, firefighters found that a large tree had toppled onto the middle section of a Perodua Bezza along the Ipoh-Lumut main road.
'The male driver and a woman in the rear seat were trapped in the car, while their 10-month-old baby had already been rescued by members of the public,' he said in a statement.
He said firefighters used specialised equipment, including a chainsaw, to cut through the branches and trunk that had fallen on the car.
They also used a rescue cutter to create space to free the 37-year-old man and his 31-year-old wife.
He added that while both victims were not injured, they were taken to the hospital by ambulance after complaining of leg pain.
'The couple's baby was handed over to family members who were present at the scene,' he said. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — Malaysia is currently facing a shortage of approximately 100,000 engineers to meet the country's development needs, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. He said the current number of registered engineers has yet to achieve the ideal ratio of one engineer for every 100 Malaysians. 'At present, we have only 200,000 registered engineers, and we still need about 100,000 more to meet demand,' he said after officiating the 2025 National Engineering Convention (NEC 2025) here today. Nanta highlighted that efforts to address this shortage are already underway, particularly through the enhancement of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes. 'I welcome the announcement by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to expand TVET programmes, with a target of 60,000 participants. We are confident this initiative will help us meet the 100,000 engineer target soon,' he added. He also stressed the importance of retaining engineering graduates within the field, noting the challenge of attracting them to other sectors due to higher starting salaries. 'We do not want engineering graduates to switch careers. The government is exploring ways to ensure they remain motivated and committed to pursuing engineering careers,' Nanta said. The Ministry of Works (KKR) is examining strategies to make the engineering profession more appealing, including creating an environment that offers better job prospects for graduates. On the recent motorcycle accident on Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari here, Nanta added that the incident occurred in an area under the responsibility of the state government and its appointed concessionaire. 'If the accident was caused by road damage, I urge the concessionaire to take swift action to prevent similar incidents in the future,' he said. A report by Infrasel Sdn Bhd and the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) indicated that the accident took place near a housing project, where road conditions had become sandy. SoloEra Solo 1C electric motorcycle attracts over 6,000 customers, production is underway
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — Over 6,000 customers have pre-ordered the SoloEra Solo 1C, according to Blueshark Malaysia and its manufacturing partner, EPMB. The electric motorcycle made its way to headlines back in July, mainly due to its affordable price tag of just RM599. Blueshark and EPMB have also confirmed that the production of Solo 1C has now begun at EPMB's plant in Glenmarie, Shah Alam. Capable of producing 12,000 electric motorcycles per year, SoloEra's two other models, Solo 2 and Solo 3, are also in production, even though the official launch of SoloEra itself has not yet taken place. Blueshark Malaysia has previously said that the Solo 1C delivery timeframe is around 1 to 6 months after booking confirmation. If their bike is not delivered within 6 months, customers can then request a refund for their RM278 booking deposit. Why is SoloEra 1C priced at just RM599? According to Blueshark, the pre-launch price tag for the SoloEra 1 is actually RM2,999. This price tag is not inclusive of other related charges such as admin fee, JPJ registration fee, number plate installation, and insurance. As it is being assembled locally, the SoloEra 1C is eligible for the MARiiCAS rebate, which is currently being reserved exclusively for Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) electric motorcycles.
