Tusshar Kapoor is not worried about Kapkapiii being compared with Romancham: 'A huge audience has not watched it'

Hindustan Times24-05-2025

Tusshar Kapoor reunited with Sangeeth Sivan after two decades with Kapkapiii. The film marked the actor-director combination's first reunion since their 2004 sleeper hit, Kya Kool Hain Hum. However, Sivan could not see the film's release as he died in May 2024 after a cardiac arrest. Now, as Kapkapiii hits the screens, Tusshar speaks with HT about the bittersweet feeling of celebrating it and more.
Elaborating on how it feels to not have Sangeeth during the promotions, Tusshar says, "It's a little unbelievable because we spent so many days and moments together, from workshops to the wrap party. We worked together after so long, after Kya Kool Hain Hum. He was there till the dubbing, too. Sometimes it just seems very hard to fathom. But we are living in such times where nothing surprises you anymore. One has to just accept whatever comes your way. It's a bittersweet feeling. I am sad that he isn't here, but happy about the fact that his work, his film, is releasing on time and in the manner he intended."
Kapkapiii is a horror comedy that also stars Shreyas Talpade, Siddhi Idnani, Jay Thakkar, and Sonia Rathee. The film is the official remake of the 2023 Malayalam hit Romancham. When asked if he was worried that Romancham's popularity on OTT could be added pressure for Kapkapiii, Tusshar says, "That definitely is a slight concern. But, I'd like to believe that Romanchan has its own niche audience in the south. There is a huge audience base that has not watched it. For instance, I would want to watch a remake in the theatres with actors I can identify with. I'll keep that as my first option. Both languages are equal for me. But when a film releases in Hindi, I'll go and watch it regardless of whether it's a remake, and there are millions of others like me."
Tusshar adds that Kapkapiii is not a shot-by-shot remake. "We have given it a new take," he adds, "Even though it is a remake of Romancham, there is a freshness. There's a new vibe and elements that have been enhanced and added. Sangeeth ji has given his own twist to it with the horror and romance. There is a lot more to it."
Kapkapiii releases in theatres on May 23.

Shine Tom Chacko's driver reveals what caused accident that killed actor's father, CP Chacko

On Friday, Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was travelling with his family when his car met with an accident in Salem. His father, CP Chacko, died, and the actor has been hospitalised. His driver, Aneesh, spoke to Manorama News and revealed how the fatal accident took place. (Also Read: Shine Tom Chacko's father dies in a car accident, actor admitted to hospital) Aneesh spoke to the publication and said that Chacko died before he could be taken to the hospital after the accident in Salem. 'He left us before we could take him to the hospital. He was behind the driver's seat without seatbelt on, and Shine chettan (elder brother) was sitting in the back. He wasn't responding when we were taking him to the hospital. But when he became silent on the way, we knew he had died. It crushed our hopes,' said the driver. Detailing what caused the accident, Aneesh says that they left from Ernakulam to Bengaluru around 10 PM and were at Salem by 6 AM when it happened. He stated that the lorry ahead of them suddenly switched lanes, and the car rammed into it. 'We were going at around 80 kmph because it was early,' said the driver. The report also revealed that Shine's right hand has been injured in the accident, which will need surgery. His mother, Maria Carmel and brother, Joe John Chacko, suffered minor injuries. An OnManorama report states that Chacko's body is being kept at Dharmapuri Government Medical College. A postmortem was conducted to determine the cause of death, and it is reported that he suffered from a fatal head injury in the impact of the collision. Shine and his family will return to Thrissur with the body for the funeral. Shine returned to work recently after his arrest in a drug-related case and being accused of inappropriate behaviour by his co-stars. He received treatment for de-addiction in Thodupuzha. The actor's friends reportedly said that he was travelling to Bengaluru for further treatment. He was most recently seen in Alappuzha Gymkhana and Good Bad Ugly.
