Standout defensive player enters transfer portal to leave UNC football
At 6-feet and 230 pounds, Campbell finished last season with 76 tackles for the Tar Heels. That included 45 solo tackles. He finished second on the team in both categories last season. He was also second on the Tar Heels in sacks as well as tackles for loss (10.5).

Campbell enrolled at UNC early in spring 2023 to take part in spring practices ahead of his freshman season. He played 11 games that fall, getting his first start against West Virginia in the Duke's Mayo Bowl. He followed that by starting 13 games for the Tar Heels last season under coach Mack Brown, who was fired in November before UNC hired six-time Super Bowl winning head coach Bill Belichick in December.
The Tar Heels wrapped up their first spring practice work under Belichick on April 12.
UNC's sacks leader last season, defensive end Beau Atkinson, has also entered the transfer portal since the end of spring practice.

Crackdown on players faking injuries, tweak to video review verbiage among changes in college game
Officials will be cracking down on college football players who feign injuries, the number of overtime timeouts will be reduced and referees will use different verbiage when announcing the results of video reviews. Those are among the changes for the 2025 season, the National Football Foundation announced Wednesday in its annual summary of rules changes. Combatting the practice of players faking injuries to stop the game clock was an offseason priority for the NCAA Football Rules Committee. Beginning this season, if a player on the field presents as injured after the ball is spotted for the next play, that player's team will be charged a timeout. If the team does not have timeouts remaining, a 5-yard delay-of-game penalty will be assessed. The player also must remain out of the game for at least one down, even if that team is granted a timeout, and may not return until receiving the approval of a medical professional. Feigning injuries, sometimes at the coach's instruction, has concerned the rules committee in recent years. It's a tactic defenses use to slow down tempo offenses or as a way for an offense to avoid a delay-of-game penalty or get an extra timeout. In overtime, each team will continue to be allowed one timeout in both the first and second extra periods. After the first two overtime periods, each team will be allowed only one timeout for the remainder of the game. Previously, a team was allowed one timeout in each overtime period regardless of how many were required to decide a winner. After video reviews, if the ruling on the field is not overturned, referees will announce that the call is 'upheld.' Previously the referee would say the call is 'confirmed' if video showed the call was correct or 'stands' if there was no clear and obvious evidence to overturn the ruling. If the call is changed following the review, the referee will describe the reason. Some other changes: — On kick returns, if any player on the receiving team holds out his arms to make a 'T' signal during the kick, the team gives up its right to make a return and the play will be whistled dead. — Any defensive player within 1 yard of the line of scrimmage (stationary or not) may not make quick and abrupt or exaggerated actions that simulate action at the snap in an obvious attempt to make the offense commit a penalty. The offense will be held to the same standard as any pre-snap movement that simulates action at the snap is a foul on the offense for a false start. — The defense may not have more than 11 players on the field when the ball is snapped. The infraction is treated as a live-ball foul and is a 5-yard penalty. If this occurs after the two-minute timeout in either half, the offense will have the option to reset the game clock back to the time displayed at the snap. The game clock will then restart on the next snap. — Coach-to-player communications through the helmet will be allowed in the Football Championship Subdivision. — A player attempting to recover a loose ball is added to the list of defenseless players. — All forms of gun violence are not permitted and simulating the firing of a weapon is an automatic unsportsmanlike foul. This year, if a player simulates the act of brandishing a weapon, it is considered an unsportsmanlike act. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here. Cleveland Browns Training Camp Recap: Day 13 – No reps for Shedeur Sanders vs. Eagles
Day 13 of Cleveland Browns training camp took place Wednesday. Here is our recap of the session. Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report – Day 13 (8/13/25) 1. Practice With the Champs: It's a great opportunity for the Cleveland Browns to get a couple of joint practices in with the Philadelphia Eagles, the defending Super Bowl Champions. It's also great from a mental standpoint, because the coaches can point to the fact of how the Eagles really fell into a rut two years ago with their big losing streak, but they revamped and showed everyone what they were really capable of a year ago. As a reminder, during these joint practices, the media cannot film during team drills, so any highlights during those sessions would have to be provided by the teams themselves (and they are usually close-up shots, if they are provided). 2. Man of the People: A man of the people indeed — here is QB Joe Flacco using the restroom before practice started, a practice in which head coach Kevin Stefanski stated that the veteran quarterback would continue to take first-team reps in. Meanwhile, QB Kenny Pickett would remain limited to 7-on-7 drills against his former team, while QB Dillon Gabriel was expected to see some 11-on-11 work. 3. Re-United: The Browns shaved a tiny bit of salary cap this offseason by releasing veteran long snapper Charley Hughlett, who had been with the team since 2014. I'm sure it was fun for him to re-unite with his former teammates this week, as he is now a member of the Eagles. In a similar manner, the Browns surprisingly released defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo this offseason. Likewise, he signed on with the Eagles, so Browns players were catching up with him before practice. 4. Sanders Exits Early: The biggest headline from the joint practices is no doubt the fact that QB Shedeur Sanders was limited and held out the remainder of practice after he suffered an oblique injury. I'm sure we'll have more updates as time goes on, but at this point, we don't know the severity of it. Like, is it another, 'his shoulder was sore so we held him out a day' type of deal, or did he tweak it, something that isn't necessarily super limiting, but requires a few weeks of rest to truly let it heal? Eagles QB Jalen Hurts had some words with Sanders after practice: 5. One-on-One Action: During 1-on-1 drills, CB Myles Harden's stock takes another boost, as he logged an interception. 6. Tame Action All Around: There wasn't a ton of team reps for all the quarterbacks, but with Sanders out, Tyler Huntley got some work in. Joe Flacco completed a few passes to WR Jerry Jeudy later in practice. One highlight was WR Gage Larvadain snagging a touchdown pass from QB Dillon Gabriel, who might be in line to start against the Eagles on Saturday. 7. Punt Return Reps: The punt return reps against Philly included WR DeAndre Carter, WR Diontae Johnson, and WR Gage Larvadain. 8. Brownies: Former Browns WR Kevin Johnson was at practice. … CB Greg Newsome remained limited as he tries to battle back from a shoulder injury. … Head coach Kevin Stefanski noted that he was extremely disappointed with DE Myles Garrett's speeding ticket. … 9. Next Up: The Browns will play have another joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday (time to be determined).
