Chelsea call in police as £30k of equipment disappears from training ground

Investigations are underway after Chelsea called in police following the disappearance of expensive equipment from the west London team's Cobham training ground Police have been called into Chelsea's Coham training base after the disappearances of £30,000 worth of materials. The Blues have been rocked by the vanishing of camera equipment from their training ground. ‌ The west London side called in Surrey Police, according to reports, after the hi-tech gear was lost and the incident was deemed suspicious enough to involve authorities. Despite that, it is said it remains unclear whether the equipment has been mislaid but the severity of the incident has seen action taken in a bid to resolve the mystery. ‌ Chelsea, like other elite football clubs around the world, extensively utilise video footage to analyse training in addition to matches in a bid to improve players' all-round games. The equipment is utilised by the world champions as they illustrate technical and tactical plans and issues. ‌ The Blues returned to training on Monday after requiring a late summer break following their Club World Cup campaign. They had little time to rest ahead of the tournament in the United States and defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the final to add a second trophy to Enzo Maresca's collection after UEFA Conference League success. The club's time in the US did not come to an end until July 13, meaning Chelsea's stars had just three weeks to recover. Maresca's side kickstart their Premier League term on August 17. The Blues have already been hit by injury in their preparations too. In a press conference ahead friendlies against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, head coach Maresca revealed a blow Levi Colwill suffered in an early session. "We had a problem the last two days about Levi Colwill," he said. "We don't know how long he will be out for. Hopefully not too long. It's a problem. "We need to wait. We don't know yet." ‌ The Italian may soon be able to call upon some defensive reinforcement however. Wesley Fofana has returned to training and could be it enough to take to the field for the club's first Premier League match against Crystal Palace. "Wes (Fofana) is back, he is training with us," he said. "I don't think he is ready for minutes in the next two games but he can be ready for the Palace game which is good news." Alpine make Franco Colapinto axe decision after latest blow in testing crash

Argentine racer Franco Colapinto has yet to score a point for Alpine since replacing Jack Doohan earlier this season and there is increasing pressure on his place in Formula 1 Franco Colapinto is set to get the rest of the season to save his Formula 1 career. The Argentine's place with Alpine has been under increasing scrutiny amid his failure to score a single point since replacing Jack Doohan earlier this year. ‌ Colapinto was signed in the off-season from Williams, who had fielded him nine times in the 2024 campaign but had no room in their driver line-up to retain him this year. He joined Alpine initially as a reserve driver, his presence alone suggesting Doohan's days were numbered. ‌ And that turned out to be the case. Just six rounds into the season, having failed to register a point, Doohan was dropped back into a reserve role and Colapinto elevated into a race seat. ‌ The Alpine press release announcing that switch in May stated that Colapinto had been given an initial five-race period to show what he could do. Eight events later and the 22-year-old remains in the seat. That is despite some uninspiring results and a failed to score a point so far. He has finished above 15th place in a Grand Prix just twice so far, thanks to a couple of 13th-placed results in Monaco and Canada. He did not help his case this week by crashing in a Pirelli tyre test at the Hungaroring. An Alpine spokesperson confirmed that Colapinto had been assessed by medics on site and was uninjured despite losing control of the car at turn 11 and burying the car into a barrier. Yet, there has been patience shown to him by the team and its leader Flavio Briatore. The Italian, who is technically an adviser to the Renault board but who has been given full control of the struggling F1 outfit, has publicly called for more time to be given to Colapinto. And that seems to be what the team is set to do in terms of its immediate plans for that seat. As it stands, Colapinto will continue to race for the team after the summer break and could get until the end of the season to find improved form, reports PlanetF1. Doohan remains eager for a second chance to show what he can do, while Alpine also have Paul Aron on the books and waiting for his first chance to race in F1. The Estonian racer finished third in last year's Formula 2 championship, behind Isack Hadjar and title-winner Gabriel Bortoleto. Both of them have graduated to F1 while Aron signed a reserve deal with Alpine and has represented both the Enstone team and Sauber in practice sessions so far this year.

Paul Pogba undergoes career change by launching surprise business after doping scandal

Paul Pogba has moved to Monaco and restarted his footballing journey following a doping scandal that saw him banned from the sport - and now, he's branching out into a totally different career Paul Pogba has launched a luxury jewellery business with wife Zulay as he looks to get his life back on track following his doping scandal. The French midfielder recently signed a two-year deal with AS Monaco, restarting his footballing journey after receiving a ban for failing a drug test. ‌ Now, Pogba is eager to put his recent troubles behind him as he launches 'Unbreakable', a luxury collection in collaboration with his wife and jewellery house Elke Berr. Speaking to Var-Matin, Zulay described the struggles her husband has been through as something that created an extremely strong bond between them. ‌ She said: "Paul's problems were public. It affected us as a couple. It affected our children. We have been through very tough times, but we have stayed united. This is what we wanted to communicate through the collection: you are not alone in facing difficulties, what matters is getting back up." ‌ READ MORE: Paul Pogba to link up with ex-Arsenal star praised by Thierry Henry and who hit out at England snub Pogba was once revered as one of the brightest talents in Europe. He found success at Juventus before returning to Manchester United, winning multiple trophies at the highest level. However, in 2023, the midfielder was initially suspended from playing after failing a drug test, with DHEA found in his system while in his second stint in Turin. More failed results followed, and the Italian side mutually agreed to terminate his contract after Pogba was banned from playing for four years by the Italian Anti-Doping National Tribunal. This ban was later reduced to 18 months, and he was allowed back into the competitive foray by March of this year. It wasn't just the stress of Pogba's drug ban that brought the couple closer together, though. The French international saw his brother, Mathias, sentenced to three years in prison in 2024 - with two years suspended - for attempted extortion of the ex-United star. ‌ The former footballer had been accused, alongside five other men, of attempting to extort €13million (£10.7m) from Pogba, and was found guilty last year - despite protesting his innocence throughout. Now, the current Monaco midfielder is trying to put his past behind him and focus on the future with his wife and children, with the jewellery business a joint venture between the two. Discussing their struggles, Zulay said: "Unbreakable isn't just about Paul and me. ‌ "It's a shared story – that of a child with their mother or father, sisters, brothers, two best friends. These bonds help us not to be defeated by life's roller coaster. For us, Unbreakable is more than just a jewellery collection. It's a symbol." The collection offers many different styles of jewellery, from necklaces to rings and bracelets, and is available on the Elke Berr Joaillerie website. Pogba and his partner plan to open a showroom in Monaco next September in collaboration with Monte-Carlo Diamonds. ‌ The Bolivian model added: "What we went through was seen by many because it was public. But getting back up isn't just about returning to sport, it's about returning to life." As Ligue 1 returns in a week, Pogba will hope his life will remain positive. For now, fans will assume a spot in France's 2026 World Cup squad is a potential pipe dream - but the 32-year-old will be back on the pitch soon enough.
